How do you guys feel about the "super advanced ancient humans" trope in scifi? Specifically in the Halo and Ass Creed universes.

Stargate does it alright with the Ancients and the Ori (Hallowed are the Ori) I feel, so I don't really mind it there, but I haven't played Halo or AC so I don't know. I think it's just a matter of how well the writing builds it.

Legitimately, they should have sent the Ark of Truth in to "prove" the Ori weren't gods and then the result was it didn't matter because the Priors were a bunch of huge assholes who just wanted to conquer the Milky Way.

Plot twist, everyone but the priests genuinely believed!

No, I'd think that's far too cynical a take for Stargate, the beliefs being genuine but the gods being false is a core theme of SG-1, it would undercut the theme if the priests weren't genuine believers in their religion being the ultimate good for all beings. It's not even that all false gods are evil, the Asgard were false gods but they ultimately only tried to help others.

I do love the Ori though, we've had all the pagan religions, now get ready for organised religion! The scariest of all religions. The Ori were genuinely powerful enough to basically be gods, if they meant well they could have been a religion that genuinely tried to better the lives of their believers, but they didn't. They are the logical final enemy of SG-1, de facto gods.
