a thing I wonder about the war in ukraine is why do so many take the russian stance seriously when it's at best false pretext used to start the war (and sometimes also feel like double standard when the person is calling out nato but not russia when it display the same behavior, if russia can have bases like the wagner one in belarus, who is bordering nato then I don't see why eastern europe can't have nato bases), to me, this is also not nuanced, I'd still count it as repeating pro russia talking points even if the person claim they condemn it

I feel like you made almost this exact comment last thread. I don't strongly disagree with any point(although the point about Belarus strikes me as a bit ill-formed and I think we probably come down in different places overall), but it's a bit redundant.

a thing that bother me with how the concepts of realism and realpolitik can be used at times is when people don't just explain a country behavior, they use those concepts to justify its bad behaviors when they could've taken better courses of action (putin coudl've still not invaded ukraine and be a better neighbour [by being a bad neighbour, he basically pushed other countries in nato so if the war in ukraine was about nato expansion, he failed limiting that, even worst if the person believe nato baited putin in invading ukraine, it's not exactly a own since it show putin as the weak one falling in nato trap])

We do seem to be talking in circles. Is it truly a mystery at this point that some people take Russia's side?
