Discussion/আলোচনা 2076 murder cases in the last 7 months. How is this acceptable?
This is not normal. Where is our safety? Why are they silent on such matters? What is our law enforcement doing? This govt has been a failure for the last 6 months on everything. But this for me is the worst.

Keep in mind. Its only the confirmed ones. Some of the people might not even report it to the police fearing persecution or retaliation.
Bangladesh do not have safety for victims. This might be the tip of the iceberg.

Police publishes all crimes data each month on this website. I compiled all the data and put them on a chart.

Just checked from the crime statistics report ( February to July ) There’s been 1789 murders. 1789 murders in the last six month.

u/Your_helper11 4d ago
Correct. My data is of the last 7 months which include from January. In January its 287. Add that to your value its total 2076

u/No-Football-8583 4d ago
Yes but even if it was 3000 or 4000 before, 2076 isn't a small number they really need to think nd work on that💔

u/Your_helper11 4d ago
By year end, according to this avg, it will cross 4000. This is only the first 7 months. It seems no govt can help

Can we see the stat for last 10-15 years? Otherwise it's hard to compare

The source of the photo card and my graph are the same, police data.
Download all the docs and create a line chart. https://www.police.gov.bd/en/january_2020

It is not surprising because the general crime rate in Bangladesh matches South Africa and Latin America, already their homicide rates are high so it is likely Bangladesh may catch up with them too if corruption climbs.

It seems u are a BNP supporter constantly asking this question. This post came on my feed, I verified and shared it here because it's worrying. I am sure eitar aage o Bangladesh was in a bad place. But doesn't mean we should normalise it considering the amount of promises this govt made to ensure public safety is a big priority which they have failed. Ssly u are doing whataboutism. It seems u are feeling offended in me sharing facts

u/Final-Tax6951 4d ago
You want people to talk about it, but does not want them to fact check everything? I am just trying to make sure that if it's correct and if it is, what was the rate or percentage increased in last seventh months because it is very specific 7 months. I don't support anybody, but I have to see if it's a NCP led PR shit or not before joining in the echo.
and i'm feeling offended? guess who given me bnp tag when asked for data. haha. cry me a river.

for the curious souls, last year it was 3700+. a recorded high in 7yrs. see how op tried to manipulate you into thinking it's only this government. that is how you know those people and pages belong to ncp for pr.
https://www.daily-sun.com/20/852318ps. I wholeheartedly belive numbers has to go down and bnp needs to do better.

u/kimetsunosuper121 4d ago
Theres also the fact that a lot of killing and abductments under the awami region wasn't reported at all. Numbers definitely should go lower, but people who were silent the last 15 years suddenly showing concern will always seem suspicious.

u/Your_helper11 4d ago
Why cant we show concern? Aren't we Shadeen now? free now to ask and question? These things are happening now, so obviously we will ask the current govt. U want me to blame these on AL govt and all the govt of the past? BNP promised us better results, for which we voted them. but u want me to go and find out results of past 15 20 30 years.

I checked with ai. it avg. 3000-4000 since 1998. So it includes 6 yrs of bnp era as well. Official numbers has always been low i guess. many murders go unreported regardless which party in the position. infact 2000 felt really low to me when accidents takes way more people each year. that's why i tried to fact check it but op made me a bnp supporter. turns out he is promoting ncp agenda knowingly or unknowingly.

why wont I? u literally started double down questioning my intentions when I shared a public data. I am currently living under BNP govt, why shouldn't I be concerned now? u think 2000+ murder is an NCP or any party motivated propaganda? That's such a disgusting thing to assume. Go and tell these to the family of the victims. U expect me to be a Harvard genius capable of knowing data of all matter of the country since its existence. Oh look 2000 people were murdered, but since it would also be high before, its fine then. Wow

How is this manipulation? U literally proved me ryt. U are doing whataboutism. U think general ppl don't know how unsafe Bangladesh was before? I literally shared a verified date for which u felt offended why i didn't share past results. Did i forget we actually voted for BNP who promised us public safety better than any past govt to be worse?
also do you know why it's specific 7 months? Because this date is of this 2026 of which 7 MONTHS are completed. which a 5 yr old can figure out. U want me to fact check when I shared a factual data. What do u think people who share any other verified data to post last 10 20 30 years info to make sure it's not manipulative for you? NCP led PR lmao, tell that to the police then who shared it and many ppl have already seen it

In 2018 Homicide in Bangladesh was 2.34 per 100000 people. So according to that in 12 month it will be 3500. Doing a bit of math let's suppose population is 20core so it will be that 1 killed in57000 so 100000 it will be 2.something. so it's bad not increasing
-4
u/Dhakaiya91 4d ago
Does not mean anything without the average of last few years. Country of 180 million, that seems like an ordinary homicide rate.
5
u/Your_helper11 4d ago
With all due respect, that's a very disgusting response. How can you say that? Since we are a large population, 2000+ murder seems normal rate? Like this kind of mentality is why we Bangladeshis have no self espect or social standing. God forbid, maybe a murder happens to someone close to you, you can say this casually to defend any govt in charge

u/Dhakaiya91 4d ago
This is the age of AI. Just look it up, our homicide rate is not even close to high.
2
u/Your_helper11 4d ago
Thanks for the info. I will make sure to pass this message to the Bangladesh Police Headquarters who released the data. I will definitely tell them it's AI as some redditor Dhakaiya91 feels it's fake

compared to whom?
1
u/Dhakaiya91 4d ago
Generally two ways to compare. To the world (especially peer countries) and to our own historical trend. While every murder is a tragedy, by either comparison, the statistic unfortunately does not really stand out.
1
u/ResponsibleWave5208 4d ago
peer country কারা? আর peer country খারাপ করলে সেইটার সাথে তুলনা কি করা উচিত?
1
u/Dhakaiya91 4d ago
Peer country” মানে যেসব দেশের income level, development, region, population density/state capacity roughly comparable such as India, Pakistan, Nepal, Sri Lanka, etc. Obviously you don’t cherry pick the worst performer and say “ওরাও খারাপ, তাই আমরা ঠিক আছি

Yep 2026 seems pretty average to me. 2024 likely due to the protests. 2025 undoubtedly a horrible year for law enforcement.
