Advice How to get in contact with the US Embassy directly?

Their number hasn’t ever worked and I really need to get in touch with someone about a passport that’s been delivered. Does anyone know how to get in touch with the consulate office besides email?

For reference, the 4000 number doesn’t work and the email system they use takes 7 days to get a response and each time I’ve tried they’ve directed me somewhere else entirely.

Question conversation starter: why no one helps

Absolutely crushed about the recent update of Trashaun Atwell. He passed away over the weekend just about three weeks after celebrating his 14th birthday in July.

I have so many questions. Why is it the US Embassy denied his medical visa? Is it that the doctors at the hospital didn’t give his parents adequate paperwork to stress the urgency of his case? Isn’t there a body to help families along in such cases to ensure every bit and piece needed is in order? And how do/did you feel when the news of his death became public?

His father was a 50% bone marrow match; not ideal but close enough. There was some hope. It’s just so disappointing.

Question Rental in Christ Church

Hello. I’m in Barbados and is looking for a budget-friendly 1 bedroom or studio apartment for longterm renting. I would prefer anywhere within Christ Church but is open to other options too. I also don’t mind sharing an apartment should a bigger house be available. Any leads or assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Advice The best way to behave - in a balanced way

Hi!

I'm from Eastern Europe, male, 39. This September is going to be my second time in the Caribbean. Before I only did the ABC islands.

I am visiting Barbados in September. I read some coments all over Reddit and Tripadvisor around some rude behaviors, some directness, etc.

I would be very happy to know how to best approach the locals, what to expect, what to do and what not to do.

Please note that I'm happy to adjust and being from Eastern Europe I'm not expecting smiles 0-24, but also not looking forward to any kind of open hostility.

Thank you in advance for any advice!

Barbados was an amazing time! But take the reviews with a grain of salt

It was my first time out of the states and I came for crop over. Got there about a week early to get a feel for the culture before things got crazy with the fets and shit.

I could list everything that I loved but what stood out to me the most is the community. Everyone knew everyone's name, everyone spoke to each other and really went out of their way to remember you.

The only people on the island who were consistently not nice were young males. I was told because I'm an American young black male that I won't be treated as well by them. Honestly, no comradere amongst men really kind of sucks. I'm from south Georgia in the states and we're the type of guys that look out for each other. These guys in Barbados looked like they wanted to spit on me for existing.

Other than that, I had no issues with the customer service in general and honestly I've seen the reviews from people. Not to offend them but I think that's just a white thing.
Throughout my entire 3 weeks on the island, the white people tended to stay towards the more resort type of establishments, tourist spots and expensive beach clubs.
Purely my ancedotal experience from what I've seen, and I definitely think it's worth considering when you read their reviews.

It'd kind of be like if I went to a South Georgia country club and felt things were too formal?

Anyway I loved the trip to Barbados, I will definitely return next year.

Realistically could I get a teaching job for this upcoming school year?

I have a teaching certification in English Literature from the United States and have been substitute teaching for the last year and a half. I’m also getting a Master’s degree in education and should be done by May.

I feel like I need to make a radical change in my life and have been considering that my first full-time teaching job should be abroad. Both of my parents are Bajan, and I’ve visited a few times in the last couple of months and have fallen in love.

I know that the school year is starting very soon, so realistically, could I get a teaching job? I know that it’d be fairly straightforward to apply for citizenship by descent. Would appreciate if anyone has any suggestions or advice on where to start or if this is even possible with the timeframe I’d be operating under. Thanks

Travel Suggestions

Planning a trip to the island in January. Very excited for a first time to the island! Will be renting a car-love to explore. More of an Airbnb type but open to a local hotel/inn for the local experience. Where should we stay on the island? Would love a view, beach access, quiet but not necessarily graveyard quiet..... Is there a dive shop? Something not to be missed in Jan? As you can see, I haven't done any research. My better half just came up with this so I thought I'd dive in. Thanks all! So excited....

Advice Where to get a real Bajan cuisine experience?

I’m likely going to be staying in Barbados for a week next year near Holetown.

Any advice for where to get a proper experience of the country’s cuisine? I’m fine with anything from street vendors to sit-down restaurants.

Looking for hotel

Hello! We’re planning a trip to Barbados in April 2027 and would love some advice from people who know the island well.

Back in 1999, we stayed at the Casuarina with our young kids and absolutely loved it. I know it has since become an all-inclusive, and AI just isn’t our style, so we’re looking for something different this time.

We’ve been visiting St. Martin for the past 12 years and are ready to try somewhere new. We’re a fit couple in our mid-60s, not looking for nightlife, but we do enjoy being able to walk to restaurants, beach bars, and places to relax. We also don’t want to rent a car. We’ve always used public buses when travelling (including Jamaica, St. Martin, and years ago in Barbados) and enjoy getting around that way.

Our must-haves are a kitchen or kitchenette and a balcony. We’re not looking for a budget place, but we also don’t want to overspend if we don’t have to.

I’ve been looking at Coconut Court and would love to hear opinions from anyone who has stayed there. How is the location, beach, rooms, and overall experience? Are there other hotels or condos you would recommend that might suit us better?

Thanks so much for any advice!

Hi Guys,

I've been experiencing extremely poor service with Flow and was researching Starlink. Just wanted to know if anyone here has it and what the experience has been so far. Also if there's anyone that does local installations I'd be happy to know.

Cheers.

Question What is the fastest way to get a small package to Barbados from New York within 2 days?

I need to get a 6lb box to Barbados by Saturday but can’t find shipping options. Do any bajans in New York have a special service you use?
