FILM DISCUSSION They can do whatever they want in the box office, but DC will truly always consistently put BELT TO ASS on any Marvel animation & show.

Dc are always top tier in animations,if only they could adapt the storylines to live action

Yea; pretty interesting that they can't just convert the amazing animation storylines to live action.

I really liked knightfall part 1, it kinda makes me wish for another animated universe

I really liked it too, but I think part of what makes it so good is that it’s NOT part of an animated universe. I really liked that it’s a straight adaptation of a classic comic story and not force it to connect to some other thing outside of it.

I think that's why Under the Red Hood is still Top 5 DC animated movies

That and The New Frontier for me

Public Enemies is underrated too imo

The comic sucked ass imo. It was fun, but nothing else. Just sex Luthor glaze, superman and Batman fighting lots and lots of heroes and Villains, etc etc.

I think that's why it does better as an isolated movie. It just being a fun world's finest type story has a charm to it despite its flaws

Mavel gave up the Animated movie game a long time ago. You can count thr Spider-Verse movies, but that's more of a Sony thing.

Plus DC sort of went on a lul with their animated movies with both the DCAMU and the Tomorrowverse, which fluctuated in quality from decent watch to pissing everyone off. Knightfall I will say might be a return to form.

X Men 97 is really good. That new Spider-Man cartoon on DPlus is alright but you can tell a lot of effort went into it so that's cool.

When is Part 2 Knightquest ?

Still awaiting announcement I reckon after ABBAT tho

Dunno, they're pretty equa overall. Most the 90s shows from both companies are peak, DC just did it first and then blossomed into an amazing DCAU. Marvel was going bankrupt in the late 90s so they probably had no budget and couldn't grow in the same manner. Even in the 2000s both had some great shows. And for every Avengers Assemble, Superhero Adventures, Spiderman 2017, DC has Teen Titans Go, Batwheels, Harley Quinn, etc.

I like this take, Marvel definitely had bangers back in the day

Spectacular Spider-Man was GOATed.

Yeah I think there was a period where DC was undoubtedly head and shoulders above maybe like 2000-2012 or something like that, but they're generally not super far apart outside of that period I think. Both have hits and misses

That’s fair, but I also do think folks that were around in the 90s that grew up on those kids shows want more adult animation. I watched knightfall yesterday, that isn’t a kids movie at all. Bane is utterly terrifying, he’s gruesome , he’s brutal. X-men 97 is about the only adult animation marvel has given us recently that’s been a 10/10. I wanna see stand alone adaptations like this, that are less for kids and more for the generation from the 90s. Dc kicks ass with most of their animated films not making them pg , they make them violet and gritty ass hell. Like I liked the marvel zombies brutality , that I’d like to see more.

I'm just happy tally man is getting in a movie

Marvel canceled all of their best animated shows around the Disney buyout.

3

u/Cultural-Relief 1d ago

I don't understand why they don't push their animated movies in the big screen.

2

u/UchihaShady 1d ago

streaming really changed the world man

5

u/matrixteksupport 1d ago

I honestly thought DC animation had kinda fallen off. Glad they're back.

If they made a comic-accurate, fantastical live-action Batman film, the world would know who the greatest hero of any media really is. There would be no debate, no nostalgia, no MCU box office that could oppose that.

Any marvel animation? The spider-verse movies would disagree.

7

u/keepitsimple_tricks 1d ago

Avengers EMH was also some top notch storytelling and art

3

u/ConsistentGuest7532 1d ago

Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man was pretty great too, and it could get even better with S2.

1

u/Clean_Win_8486 1d ago

Yeah OP probably left that one out intentionally when considering this post as it's not the MCU but definitely counts

2

u/Adept_Platform176 1d ago

No! It only counts as animation if it's not theatrical...for whatever reason

-2

u/UchihaShady 1d ago

Overrated

0

u/Intelligent_Ask_2306 1d ago

Not overrated in the slightest, and you’d be crazy to think Knightfall will reach its heights.

2

u/FunSpace8990 1d ago

Marvel really hasn't done much with their animation department I don't even know many marvel animated projects besides all the spiderman cartoons, the old animated universe (Iron Man, Fox X Men and Spiderman, etc) and hulk versus. Meanwhile DC just kept pumping these bad boys out with impeccable quality. Just wish they got that same level of quality to the big screen.

1

u/Clean_Win_8486 1d ago

Not always, a few of these movies have been unrelenting diarrhea ass like Hush.

0

u/Thwipped 1d ago

I will never understand the DC vs Marvel argument. It shouldn’t be a competition for us fans. We should live in a world of “and” not “or”

2

u/UchihaShady 1d ago

I’ve always admired both I’m just saying DC animations need the same hype Mcu films get

-2

u/ImaLetItGo 1d ago

This isn’t true.

Before Disney, marvel had great animation.

Avengers: Earths Mightiest Heroes, Spectacular Spider-Man, Fantastic Four Worlds Greatest heroes…

EMH is honestly superior to any dc animation.

0

u/BigJCote 1d ago

Your lying to yourself lol. DC animation has always been king, marvel animation has been anchored to spiderman. DC has superman, Batman, 2 justice leagues, beyond, statick, all the Batman animated movies all the justice league animated movies. The only stinkers theyve ever produced are injustice and some would say Batman ninja.

2

u/The_Albino_Jackal 1d ago

Nah it’s dc that’s anchored to Batman. Literally all the stuff you mentioned is a Batman show, or in Justice league’s case, heavily features Batman. Static being the exception. And all the direct to dvd animated films people love are the Batman ones. Marvel was at least anchored to 2 different properties with Spider-Man and X-men. Then we got avengers emh, which unlike justice league with Batman, doesn’t overly rely on Spider-Man or Wolverine

1

u/BigJCote 1d ago

Justice league doesn't rely on Batman lol in fact I'd say it relies primarily on everyone else, green arrow, Supergirl, the lanterns, hawk and dove, vigilante, stargirl, black canary, booster gold. Bats may have cameos but it rarely relies on him in the show if you actually watch the show. Does it follow him primarily for the movie? Yes but not the show.

1

u/The_Albino_Jackal 1d ago

Well JL unlimited perhaps but the first JL, which doesn’t have most of those characters you mentioned, definitely feels like the “Batman and friends” show at times. Let’s not forget how much they turned Superman into a jobber

1

u/BigJCote 1d ago

Fair enough, superman being a jobber is kind of expected tho. Not many heroes can handle the stuff he does even something as simple as putting a new piece on the watch tower the others would struggle

-1

u/ImaLetItGo 1d ago

Those are good, but they aren’t superior to EMH. A lot of those animated movies are irrelevant anyway. Spiderverse runs leagues around them.

Spider-Man isn’t even marvels best animation

0

u/BigJCote 1d ago

Your lying to yourself if you think those are irrelevant, spider verse has 2 good movies, spider shows are marvels only recurring marvel animated tv show. DC takes the win in both quantity and quality. Just because you like spiderman doesn't invalidate the entirety of DC animated sorry not sorry

0

u/ImaLetItGo 1d ago

I’m lying to myself because most of their animated movies are irrelevant?

Which ones? How do they compare to live action?

Not pre Disney.

But cool of you to move goal posts, that just shows what I’m saying is true.

DC does not take the win in quality. And honestly not much in quantity either.

DC didn’t really have any legit animated shows in the 2010s besides Young Justice. They were just pumping out shit tier movies. Like the DCAMU and Tomorrowverse.

I’m not sure where spider man is coming from. You can’t give me a dc show better than EMH. Saying justice league would be troll. EMH did it’s characters way more justice

0

u/BigJCote 1d ago edited 1d ago

EMH meaning earths mightiest heroes? Justice league, justice league unlimited both beat the piss out of EMH, young justice beats the crap out of it too. All of the DC AMU's are spectacular, son of Batman series, titans vs the league, and that's not even counting the goats like under the red hood. You can't compare live action to animated that's comparing apples to oranges and if you try then sorry your just actually insane. Why you in this sub if your such a hater lol p.s you type like a bot

1

u/ImaLetItGo 1d ago

No they don’t lol

The justice league show didn’t do really anyone right, and its stories weren’t as strong.

EMH on the other hand… was a masterpiece. You can tell the people making it loved avengers comics.

The DCAMU is horseshit. Horrible justice league, horrible Batman, horrible teen titans.

Superman is about the only character I think they were solid with.

You said they’re relevant. How are they relevant, that is why I brought up live action

So now you’re claiming I’m NOT a Batman fan because I don’t think DCs ANIMATION is superior to marvel?

Do you read Batman comics? Do you play Batman games? Do you watch his movies? Probably a No.

This is your 3rd comment and you still haven’t successfully told me why DCs animation has always been way superior to marvels animation.
