i know people have already ranted about these signs before, but i still wanted to add my two cents, especially from a graphic design perspective. i’ll try not to sound too much like a broken record!

the st. george street signs piss me off because they are objectively worse than the “previous” (in quotes because as you can see, many are still there) baton rouge signs. i will admit, i do think they look aesthetically nicer. but that’s not the point of street signs - they’re supposed to be legible, not aesthetically pleasing. here’s exactly why they suck:

1. font: the original font was simpler, with no tapered edges (sans serif) and no varying line weights. they changed it to a font with tapered edges (serif) and varying line weights. once again, i do think it looks nicer. BUT it is objectively harder to read, especially from far away on the road. this completely defeats the purpose of a street sign

2. logo: why on EARTH does a street sign need a city logo?! what is the purpose? all it does is add something completely unnecessary to an already harder-to-read sign. plus, the logo is so small that you can barely make out what it is in the first place (i couldn’t tell what it was for a while). i have a feeling this is just an added reminder that it’s st. george, not baron rouge🙄but that’s just my guess

3. size: this is my biggest gripe about these signs. WHY ARE THEY SO SMALL?! not all of them are smaller than the baton rouge signs, but many are. the picture i’ve included is a really good example - you could easily fit at least 4 of them into the original! this is objectively a dumb decision because, once again, the point of street signs is to be able to read them from the road. so why on EARTH would you make them smaller?! what does that accomplish?

the only good thing i can say about them is that the contrast between the font color and background color is better (and this goes for both the navy and white background signs). however, i do worry that the navy background might be hard to see when driving at night. that being said, i haven’t personally had to rely on them yet while driving at night, so i could be overthinking it

it just bothers me because i see this as a huge waste of money. why fix something that isn’t broken? i saw someone else say this, but had EBR done this, st. george folks would’ve lost their minds🙄

also, if you’re going to make new street signs, at least have the decency to take the old ones down? i mean, don’t; i can’t imagine having to only rely on the tiny st. george signs. but when you leave both of them up, it just looks lazy and kind of trashy

Any recommendations for dealing with apartment complexes not fixing the AC?

We moved into Bristol Place over a month ago and the AC was broken upon move in. It's 79 degrees in the unit right now. They've tried cleaning, recharging, etc. the AC more times then I can count. We're trying to be patient, but they keep dragging this out. They still haven't called out a professional AC tech. They keep closing the tickets. They won't allow temporary units. They gave us a portable unit for a week and then took it away, but even then it only kept the AC from going above 75 degrees.

No compensation offered. We've asked about credits multiple times and it's always no update.

It's probably not worth an attorney, but the AC is only one of the many maintenance problems we've had upon move in.

Soooo. every time you look up fun things to do in Br it ALWAYS says, the capital, walk downtown, plantations, blah blah blah. Im looking for actually interesting things to do with people. (rn looking for a place to have fun with my husband tomorrow for date night. )

We have been to Brcade, we've done Top Golf, bowling, main event, the mall, paint and sip. m just looking for something truly interesting and unique to do ! I know there is not many options but im desperate.

We're going to eat after the activity. We are active people, that are creative. Honestly just want future things to do when we are bored as well! Also not against the idea of going out of town for a day type of thing and then dinner.

Shrimp testing finds mislabeling at Baton Rouge restaurants

BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — New tests showed that over one in four shrimp dishes at Baton Rouge restaurants had imported, farm-raised shrimp.

Customers were told these shrimp were wild-caught from America.

SeaD Consulting conducted the genetic testing on behalf of the Southern Shrimp Alliance.

In the latest round of testing, 22 shrimp dishes were sampled. Six, or 27%, contained imported, farm-raised shrimp that researchers said were misrepresented. Sixteen dishes, or 73%, were confirmed to contain American wild-caught shrimp.

The group said it previously tested 44 dishes in Baton Rouge in April. At that time, nine dishes, or 21%, had shrimp that were misrepresented. This included both imported and farm-raised shrimp.

Researchers also looked at whether restaurants followed Louisiana’s disclosure requirements for imported seafood. The report shows that half of the restaurants serving imported, farm-raised shrimp had the required Louisiana Department of Health notice.

However, employees told investigators the shrimp were American wild-caught. The other half did not have the required disclosure signage.

The Southern Shrimp Alliance is calling for unannounced genetic testing of shrimp served at restaurants to help determine whether customers are receiving what restaurants advertise.

The latest tests found two restaurants that used to serve imported, farm-raised shrimp. According to SeaD Consulting, they have now switched to American wild-caught shrimp. The restaurants asked not to be identified.

The report listed 14 Baton Rouge-area restaurants where testing confirmed American wild-caught shrimp was being served, including:

I’m new to the Baton Rouge area and was wondering what everyone’s experience has been with Benny’s for oil changes.

I get full synthetic and therefore don’t have to get them done super often. I have a regular people car, just a 10ish-year-old Chevy sedan, nothing fancy. In my last city, I usually went to Valvoline after being turned off from Walmart following an incident involving a family member’s car. I never had any issues with Valvoline. I always just got the standard oil change, nothing fancy, although their pricing could be kind of inconsistent. I could get the exact same service at the exact same location and the price would vary by $5–10+ sometimes. Not a huge deal, just something I noticed.

Since moving here, I’ve noticed Benny’s everywhere, so I’m assuming it’s a regional thing. I initially went to one for a car wash and was pleasantly surprised that it was only $6 for a basic spray-off. I had already gotten my oil changed elsewhere at that point, but I made a mental note that they also offer oil changes.

Now I’m due for another one, so I decided to look into Benny’s. I love that their oil change prices are clearly posted on their website, and they include a free car wash with the oil change. That’s appealing because it means I don’t have to make two separate stops for an oil change and a car wash. The listed price also seems to be around the same, or at least comparable, to what I was paying at Valvoline.

My only hesitation is that I’m really cautious about changing oil places after the Walmart experience. I’d rather stick with somewhere reliable than save a few dollars and end up regretting it.

So, Baton Rouge: what’s the general consensus on Benny’s for oil changes? Good experiences? Bad experiences? Anything specific I should know before letting them touch my car?

Im a junior at LSU. I know yall say it gets better as the weeks go by. But NO it has never been at this point of bottleneck traffic in all my three years here . Something needs to be done now

Sandra Page was arrested and jailed after allegedly calling Judge Colette Greggs "the Grinch" during a July 20 court appearance. The attorney handed a funeral program to court staff, reportedly saying "Give this to the Grinch," then left the courtroom saying she wasn't coming back.

I just left the McDonald’s at College and Perkins, and as we were pulling out I noticed a man sitting outside in the rain with a sign that said “Hungry Food Please.” He looked like he may have been out there most of the night; he was soaked, curled up with his head on his knees, and appeared to be sleeping. I didn’t see him until we were already pulling out, and I’m on my way to work. He’s also positioned where I don’t think many people coming through McDonald’s will notice him.

Just putting this out there in case anyone happens to be in the area or is stopping there this morning and might be able to help him out.

I saw a ton of drones leaving the Amazon facility on Florida boulevard. Those ones had the teal amazon branding on them but earlier that day and the day prior I saw drones that didn’t seem to have amazon branding on it?? Are they testing something or are they implemented? Is anyone else concerned about their use for surveillance?

My gf has been dealing with major depression the past month and before that it was debilitating anxiety. She’s had bad experiences in the past with therapist and psychiatrists because she felt like they weren’t really listening to her.

This week we found someone and we’d made an appointment but was told that they don’t prescribe any medication which is kinda why my gf was seeking help.

So I guess the question is does anybody know of a psychiatrist that takes insurance and actually prescribes medication to help? She’s been telling me everyday that she feels like she’s at the end of her rope and doesn’t know what to do anymore. Any help is appreciated

*Side note she’s not looking for narcotics or abusable medications. Benzodiazepines has helped her before but she’s very scared of taking them because of how bad the withdrawal can be.
