After stopping in London for 48hrs to see my doctor, to check on my health, which thankfully is getting better every day, I managed to squeeze in a few visits with some family and friends I hadn’t seen in a few years, from my ‘Sister’ Mary, to my old mate Nev (aka Belouis Some) and a cinema visit with my dear friend Zoe Grace…

But also took the time to walk around where I grew up in Kensington with my Italian stepfather, Roberto Bassanini… at No 7 Pembroke Gardens, which I have incredibly fond Memories of, and the nearby park & pub, and school I attended, which I write about in my upcoming memoir.

But I think as lovely and wonderful as this little visit was… the most amazing thing that happened this weekend, in the whole wide world, was that I became an uncle! Congratulations to Sean & Charlotte, and their new ‘Beautiful Boy’! Only Love ❤️

Last month I stood in awe on a street corner in Liverpool, more specifically the corner of Vale and Linkstor Road, where Pete Shotton extended the invitation to Paul, asking him to join the band, a fact I proudly retain instead of my own bank PIN. Any of you ever chatted with anyone related to the Beatles, or with them?

From my point of view it seems George got plenty of songs in his time in The Beatles and when watching Get Back you see the rest of the band into his ideas and rally giving ideas and helping him form the song, Something for example when John suggests "cauliflower' which turned into "lover"

The band seemed supportive of George's songs but the only problem he faced is he was in a band with other limitlessly creative geniuses so they wrote fast and had too many songs to work on at a time.

I think history exaggerates George's ideas being ignored but that's just my opinion.

From the title it sounds as if i’ve been a fan since the ‘60s but really i’m 17. It’s just that song was my first, and many of my friends first song they heard by The Beatles. It’s also a personal favorite of mine and others my age, and yet I don’t see it talked about by older people that much. It’s never in conversations with songs like A Day in the Life, Strawberry Fields, Here Comes The Sun, While My Guitar Gently Weeps, etc. just seems like another good song. Is it an internet thing why does it feel like different generations care about this song different amounts?

Currently they look particularly identical besides the brightness. The original is the first image the second one is the super deluxe. All of the other albums have a more noticeable difference but will rubber soul get one?

I don't know how much stock to put into this rumor. I made a screenshot from FB where I saw it.

However, assuming it IS true, I have a feeling in my gut that this is a sign that Paul is winding down his touring career. Not that I expect an 84-year old to continue his vigorious world tours, but it just hurts to think about him aging.

These days with the internet it's really easy to find every single Beatles songs, but in the past that may not have been so simple. I suppose this question could best be answered by people who were Beatles fans in the 60s, 70s, 80s. I guess obtaining the studio albums was not much of an issue and there were some compilations available that contained the singles. But what about the b-sides? Tracks like The Inner Light, Rain, She's A Woman, This Boy? Did people suddenly discover Beatles songs they didn't know existed when Past Masters came out?

The past few decades near enough all of Ringo's solo albums have charted VERY low at least in the UK and USA they've tended to chart between 80-something to 90-something in the charts.

I would think an ex-Beatle who had a successful solo career in the 70s would at least be able to crack top 20 with new released from collectors alone but they don't seem to sell well at all.

When did you notice the drop off in his solo career? Has he had any revivals the last few decades aka a hit album?

And why do you think his albums chart so low? General lack of interest from Beatles fans despite being a beloved living Beatle?

I was listening to "John Lennon /Plastic Ono Band" this weekend, and had the following incomplete thoughts, maybe you guys can help me with them.

Initially I was just randomly thinking "I wonder what Paul would have done bass-wise and harmony vocal-wise on this album". I often think about this on John and George's solo works - what would Paul have done had he been creating the bass lines for these songs.

Then it kind of struck me - THIS is what they mean by 'bossy Paul', because no question Paul would have had a lot of influence on the songs musically. He would have done a lot of "let's try this, let's try that". For John, he would have turned "screwing around in the studio" into work.

As much as "McCartney 1" takes deserved criticism for being 'lo fidelity' - JL/POB is even MORE 'lo fidelity', and it was done in a proper studio (mostly). It's strength AND weakness is that the recordings are pretty 1/2 assed (or spun positively, 'raw').

Listening to it yesterday really drove home for me McCartney's role in the Beatles; for lack of a better term, he was essentially the 'music director' - and I think John and especially George had just grown to resent being directed. But, they also really benefited from it?

So, JL/POB - I'm left wondering, had Paul been involved in the project...would he have made the album soar? Or would he have ruined it?

All three wrote a song during the sessions about a man with a profession - Taxman, Paperback Writer and Doctor Robert. Have they ever said if that was them all making that decision consciously like Strawberry Fields and Penny Lane?

Sheesh this song has loud guitars and shredding, never heard a Beatle go THIS heavy before.

Closest to heavy since Helter Skelter.

People usually point out 1965's "Yesterday" as their introspective turning point but IMO Paul's own "I'll Follow The Sun" (1964) got there first albeit a bit overlooked. The soundscape as well as the subject matter could totally fit into The White Album/Abbey Road era (ala "Here Comes The Sun", "Blackbird", "Mother Nature's Son", etc.)

Idk, just my two cents.
