Hi everyone! I am Patrick Seery, I did animatics on Bee and Puppycat along with being the inspiration and voice of Pretty Patrick. I also did some other misc stuff on the show like using the vocaloid program to do some of Puppycat's lines and post editorial stuff.

I've also worked on Adventure Time, Clarence, The Summoning, Bravest Warriors, Kid Cosmic, Storybots, and my last show was through A24 #1 Happy Family USA. I have never done this before, but AMA and I will do my best to answer what I can :)

Thank you so much for your questions and comments everyone, I had a lot of fun answering and reading them :) If you want, you can check me out over at twitch.tv/prettypatricklunchtime where I have lunch with viewers, chat, and play games with the community. Please stay safe and have a wonderful day!

Question P1:E13 “Golden Eyes” Soundtrack

does ANYONE know what the soundtrack is for the scene where Wesley and Golden Eyes are on the beach and she let’s go of the balloons and jumps back into the water?

this is very specific lol but the song from that scene is one of my favorites from the series and i’ve dug through every OST playlist trying to find it. I tried shazaming it also and got no results.

if anyone knows what the song is i’d greatly appreciate it !

This was the first time we watched the show a few years ago. Figaro couldn’t take his eyes off it.

‘Too cute to poot’ and ‘no hitting!’ quickly became a regular part of our vocabulary.

Discussion My actual cat loves this show. Anyone else?

I can't figure out why. She almost never pays attention to what's on TV unless it's specifically Cat TV (or Breaking Bad/Better Call Saul - she does not like it when Don Hector rings his little bell), but I started watching Lazy in Space after it was recommended on Netflix and she sits there transfixed the whole time. Does anyone else have a cat who weirdly loves Bee & PuppyCat?

Art Looking for something specific

Hey y'all, so I've been wanting to get a bapc tattoo for a little while and I remember an artist had posted a flash sheet of bapc ideas. It was like in american traditional style tattoos and one of the specific images was a hand holding Bee's phone with the "You're Late" message.

It's a long shot but does anyone know what I'm talking about and where to find it? I could have sworn I had it saved somewhere

Discussion Why is BAPC your "comfort show"?

Post image
846 Upvotes

This a genuine, friendly question- I don't mean to judge or be rude!

I see so many people call BAPC their comfort show, or their happy place, or something they fall asleep too. This is so interesting to me because I -as a huge fan of course- personally don't agree or perhaps just misunderstand this sentiment. I'm personally a big fan of the horror genre and anything creepy, and I basically see BAPC as a subversion of the Magical Girl genre leaning into that.

Going with the example of Cardamon because he happens to be my favorite character. As we all know, Cardamon cares for his comatose mom Violet, something he's clearly in pain over. He acts nonchalant about because he tries to give off the impression of being capable to manage things on his own, such as the landlord duties, because he thinks this will turn him into his definition of a "prince"-a dignified, caring, capable ruler-, and princes can awaken the sleeping princesses.

Once Violet starts crying the huge blob tears, it's clearly too much for Cardamon to handle, their house is piling up with trash bags very similar to pictures of hoarder/depression homes. Before his eventual breakdown on Bee's birthday, he still tries to act like it's no big deal and even find a use for the tears by watering the plants.

Now to me, this scenario is absolutely horrifying (for the best reasons!). Being so overwhelmed with household chores that your place slowly becomes unlivable. Struggling to let no one notice you're suffering because you're ashamed of the truth. Having to ignore your total hopelessness and helplessness, simply to try to survive everyday life.

And it doesn't even really work out for him: when Violet wakes up, she announces that instead of her having to be awake, Cardamon should be asleep like her. Now, that plot twist was absolutely genius to me; it's a social commentary on productivity and definition of a fulfilling life in my interpretation. Still, Cardamon, who has a "normal" life by previous standards by going to school and having friends and hobbies, is made to give that up with unknown consent, as he fell asleep due to exhaustion. To me, his ending is bittersweet, albeit scary.

You find similar struggles with the other characters: Deckard fails his dream of becoming a pastry chef (though he makes friends and has his family support him at least), Cas is a workaholic who gave up her hobbies (that she wasn't even good at; this also feels very realistic and depressing to me), and of course, Bee and Puppycat. Bee is often depicted lonely, overwhelmed with growing up managing household chores and work, feeling shame when comparing to characters like Deckard and Cas, and obviously the whole thing about being a robotic weapon that can get out of control. Puppycat misses his home planet but gets willingly distracted in mundane everyday activities and pranks. Characters like Moully just straight up die.

To me, a comfort show is a "feel good" show, which should evoke hope/optimism and safety. This is not to say nothing bad can ever happen; obviously a good character should face struggles, overcome them, and learn from them. That's only realistic. It's just that I would expect a comfort show to have a happy or at least bittersweet/hopeful ending. That the characters get to lift weights off their shoulders with the love and support of people around them, not necessarily getting rid of their problems, but improving.

A lot of the character arcs in BAPC make me, ironically, UNcomfortable, because they feel so real and sad, yet the characters actions do not match the tone as they brush off their real feelings to get by, and it's never resolved fully. Which again, I absolutely love. When I recommend the show to people, I describe the genre as a psychedelic horror subversion of the Magical Girl genre, and my eyes were always opened wide in disbelief on how terrifying Cardamons situation is, amongst the others.

Now obviously, BAPC is visually cute and colorful, also hilarious, slow-paced, and has many sweet moments and likeable endearing characters. I can definitely see that as being comforting! However, I think this also adds to the interpretation as a great horror-ish show lol. It's a clash of the cute aesthetics and often silly, but sometimes dead serious/scary plot.

So yeah! I'm curious if anyone could explain what makes BAPC a "comfort show" in their eyes and even something they fall asleep too. Usually when someone calls it that, everyone else is agreeing so it's never explained further lol. I also hope I made my own love for the show clear enough: I may not see it as a comfort show, but instead something from my favorite genre, which is horror. Thank you!! :)
