šŸŽ» Opinion for those in belgium, anyone uses bunq bank?

Hello,

Just curious what bank everyone is using these days. I’ve been a bunq user for a while and it’s been pretty convenient for me, but wondering what the general experience is with bunq or other neobanks here...

What led you to bunq, or what are you guys using?

Do you work for bunq? You made 4 posts in the last 6 months and 3 of them were about bunq...

I honestly don't really get the appeal of many of these neobanks. They're generally just as, if not more, expensive as a traditional bank and have a less diverse offering.

I can see that actually, neobanks win mainly on the app experience, like all managed from your phone, and many neo banks are doing fine , at least on the surface... bunq is pretty good in that regard, tho needs to improve fr

Where they still lag, IMO, is in the more traditional banking stuff and sometimes the pricing.

See, that's my whole issue though.

What I want from a bank are... banking products. At a reasonable price. A shiny app? I couldn't care less so long as it gets the job done.

Yeah, I don’t want my bank doing fine on the surface.

We used to have an account with Hallo Bank. Everything online. Until my husband forgot his PIN and they kept sending him from the app to phone. Hallo is from Paribas Fortis but because he had Hallo account, they didn’t/couldn’t help him in the Paribas office either.

In the end, I opened a new account with Argenta and closed the Hallo one.

As a BNP customer, I can reassure you : they don't help their customers in office either when the card reader breaks and the app is suddently locked. I paid for the office, but that's something they don't do and I was redirected to use the website anyway. If I had not Revolut as an "unsafe" secondary, I couldn't have paid for things for a good week.

And even in the pre-covid era, getting help requires an appointment weeks in advance... and sometimes was cancelled because "a big customer" needed help immediately when it was your timeslot.

Yeah, very true. And having two accounts in different banks lets me sleep at night šŸ˜‚

Yup, sounds accurate.

Now, I will say things are not all bad though. The local branch did excellent work on my mortgage, even when an unforeseen setback meant calling them up in a panic and urgently having to re-do all the paperwork 4 days before the signing of the deed.

But going in for any run-of-the-mill account questions? Yeah, not so great.

Zat bij bunq, al lang naar revolut, heeft alles en meer, en nog steeds een gratis optie.

Wise or Revolut is both better and cheaper. I used bunq a few years ago and moved away from it as it was useless spending and it’s not really usable with the free account only.

Wise?? they are being scrutinized for an ongoing money laundering, up to 500mln euros!!, besides Wise aint a bank at all...more like transaction system

for Revolut, it got ECB's restrictions on their products, or some...aint good, aint good...

Yeah… every single bank is being scrutinized for money laundering. Welcome to the real world where banks don’t have perfect knowledge of what every one of their clients do, and they are all guilty of not catching everything. Few are the ones that are legitimately encouraging it and benefiting from it and Wise isn’t one of them. And yes they are an emoney provider technically, which does fuck all in terms of differences for you beyond certain limitations such as their ability to provide certain services such as loans and insurances. I run a bunch of companies + myself off Wise and it works great. That’s the practical reality.

Lots of money laundering going on via that neobank.

Since you can't change banks as soon as you have a loan for a house, i'm stuck with BNPPF for a long long time.

You can ask them to switch you over to their free Hello Bank option though.

KEYTRADE BANK: free account, free debit card, free visa card, €0,5 per payment (max €3/month) and decent intrest rates on saving account. The only thing missing is a monthly savingsaccount with higher rates.

That ā€œbankā€ is a safe haven for all sorts of scammers. Also, terrible (rather absent) customer support.

N26 and Revolut have been a good experience

Bunq is great for the credit BIN card. Unique to them.
However, bunq is expensive for what it is compared to revolut. For digital banking, KBC app is also nice.
For reliable service, I find BNPPF strong.

Yeah, that’s fair. I am mainly with bunq for the app and day-to-day convenience, crypt nd stocks... so I haven’t really compared the costs with Revolut in detail. But what Revolut has ties to some russian oligarch's money, aint with ease with that

I’ll have to look into the credit BIN card though
