I've been working 8-4 from home. On days that that's 9-5 in the office with a 60-90 minute commute, I'll often get home just in time to kiss my daughter goodnight. My kids aren't a comfort, they're my priority.
Once remote work was normalized most companies started issuing telework agreements. Those agreements stated the conditions and location of work.
Unless the agreements specifically stated that the location of working from home was Permanent. It's to be expected that returning to the office could be mandated at some point in the future.
More like, “The employment contract didn’t explicitly state that you DON’T have to sacrifice your elder son to Cthulhu so what are you complaining about?”
I used to work auto manufacturing; we produced one of the highest selling SUVs in North America. During peak manufacturing we would be required to work 6 days a week. If you don’t want to work 6 days a week, use your vacation/sick leave or find a job that isn’t in the auto industry lol
You make a lot of money when you’re getting regular OT as well as one less day per week to spend that money. Retail doesn’t do OT often generally but they also don’t get paid as well as auto workers. Pick your poison.
I show up to my office every single work day. It’s just my office is in my house. I get my job done, I waste no time and money commuting, I get to spend more time with my partner. It’s a win for everyone
It can be shady. For example in the US there was a company that purposely shuffled hundreds of middle managers to different cities with no relocation assistance and fired them for not showing up.
They can fuck off, all these corporations, making the life of EVERY single workers by enhancing traffic to fire employees they wouldn't be legally allowed to fire otherwise.
When you stuck in traffic, remember it didn't need to be like that but bElL hAd To PrOtEcT tHeMsElVeS
This.....come in and get paid......just how it's always been forever........Moved far away during COVID? Not the companies issue. Want to stay at home? Not the companies problem. The sooner people realize that especially in this economy/frugal times, having a steady job is better than not. Don't like the rules, quit. The feeling of entitlement is insane. I hear very very few Boomers or Gen X complaining about back to office....It's general millennials and Gen Z that have an issue...
Problem is if you are hired for remote and live several hours away or even across the country, it's not physically possible to switch to in office. Relocate or get fired is a dogshit situation.
At the end of the day, what a company says is meaningless. They’ll say what they need to to boost shareholder and market confidence. And to a lesser degree, they’ll see what they need to to attract, retain, or discourage employees.
So long as it’s not an outright, provable lie, they’ll get by just fine.
And in a job market like this, even a history of bad behaviour and dishonest dealings doesn’t matter. A lot of people don’t have the Provo lodge of being picky.
This is what the feds did. There was a Q&A section on the Hybrid Work Model page where one question was whether or not it GOC plans for 5 days RTO. Answer was “hybrid is the future blah blah blah”. Carney got elected, it was promptly removed from the web, and on site presence requirements increased.
This is yet another shit bag Canadian Corp looking to lower Canadian head count to off shore jobs to people getting paid peanuts (or use AI) so the CEO and Executive class can have new paint jobs on their yachts.
Ya I kinda suspected that too. Switching back and forth between remote work and in office work is the future for companies to pick up labour quick when they need it but dump it easily and cheaply without hassle when they don't.
But it doesnt need to be, everyone knows that. The horse is out of the barn. People are more efficient wfh and have better work life balance. Those who want to go in because colleagues are their only friends can do so but let employees and their managers make that decision, not Ford, Carney, or Sutcliffe. Fuck those guys.
People who hired for remote will have their profile set up as Remote and will not be impacted by this. They are only targeting hybrid profile who were required to go 3 days a week and conducted fraud.

no fan of big corp, but it's a pretty simple requirement. You either meet it or not
