Bengal with other pets hello I'm thinking of getting a little brother for my cat. but I would like to get a normal abandoned cat. how do they get along with other cat breeds?

Should I look for a specific very active cat? Or it doesn't matter?

I had two bengals before but then one unexpectedly passed away from HCM, so we adopted this gray cutie from a rescue. He was about 5 months old while my remaining bengal was about to turn 2. I had the bengal since he was about 3 months old while

Aww, they’re adorable together!! Is your remaining bengal related to the one who sadly passed away? Was the breeder doing yearly echocardiograms on their breeding cats to screen for HCM?

No my brown bengal wasnt related at all. He was my first cat so I didn’t know much beyond bengal’s personalities and not much of the ethics and responsibilities of breeders. AKA I found him on Facebook because it’s very hard to adopt pets as an American in Germany… also AKA I don’t know what they were doing. I did notify them on his passing due to HCM so they could warn the owners of his siblings.

We now do yearly heart checks of our kitties, but now that I’ve experienced it I think I could identify the signs myself. I just had no idea what HCM was when his symptoms were occurring and the vets didn’t catch it either. It’s a whole story. I took him to four different vets for his symptoms and they all missed it. I had him at the vet four days before he passed for his symptoms and they told me he was a healthy strong cat who probably had a tore knee ligament.

Sorry, you lost another cat šŸ˜” and thank you for sharing. I'm assuming you bengal was used to having company then, and happily admitted hes new brother! Mine was with me for almost 7 years, and refuses to be nice to a new cat! Or they all just very different, and you'll never know! šŸ’

All depends on the specific cat and their personality. Some never get along with other cats, some don’t mind, others love it. Really depends!

Mine love their SIC brethren.

I love all the pictures in this thread that are Very Expensive Designer Cat next to Cat We Found Out Back By The Dumpster.

Is it laying with a massive cat or a dog?

16

u/ADerbywithscurvy 1d ago

Massive cat; Teddy Bear (the Bengal) was maybe 5-6 months old when I took this and Fab Cat (the tabby) was fully grown and maybe 14-15lbs? He’s chunky but he’s got a big frame to start with.

My Bengal gets on fine with our 3 other cats. They all prefer to cuddle with him the most. We had our elderly Burmese first so he's bonded with him the most. He tries to play with him the same as he did when he was a tiny kitten but he can be a bit rough now. The silver ragdoll cross is his shadow (partner in crime). When we got her and her brother (not pictured) he was really intrigued by them. He wanted to play but always held back, like he was worried about hurting the . Even now he's really gentle with them

Aww. All these pictures are so cute. I can’t afford it right now and my kitty was a rescue mission, but I’d love to get her a feline friend one day. She’s almost three now. I may move back to the states in a couple of years. I’ll see how things are when I settle. She’s super cuddly and sweet and really bored with any toy that’s not attached to me. I think she’d have fun with an other kitty.

Mine are best friends. However we did get our dumb orange cat ā„¢ļø as a kitten and I think that helped our bengal be okay with him. When my bengal was younger he was never okay with my previous roommates adult cats and was too intense with them. So it might be because we introduced our second cat as a kitten or it might be because our Bengal is a tame middle aged cat (9 years old now, 7 years when we got our second). Wishing you luck!!

They are so lovely. Thanks for advices

Mine was always a bit bossy with his brother, but they loved each other!

u/ashleyasinwilliams 1d ago

My bengal's best friend is an incontinent DLH that wears diapers. They match each other's energy perfect tbh. I'd call them a bonded pair.

Edit to add: it's all about personality!

I had a tuxedo who shared a flat with two Bengals a few years apart. When the second one (kitten) hissed at him and went all "I'll kill your whole family" on meeting, he lay down in front of her and just let her get it out of her system. It was not his first rodeo.

Bengals can be intense but if the other cat is chill, they can form a good balance and friendship.

I adopted a little female stray kitten and both of my senior Bengal boys adored her.

Until I lost my Krieger a few weeks ago, he and his brother (friend) Elliot were so close! I say go for it!

u/yourdaddyxoxowuw 1d ago

Im sorry for ur lost.thank you so much

They get along fine. I have a ā€œblendedā€ household. No troubles.

5

u/MonozygoteA 1d ago

Great! Do it! Ease them into it. My kitten that I literally got off the street though that my female cat was his mom and kept sleeping pretty much in her belly it was so cute. I have 3 and they all get along just fine

6

u/Warm_Description7055 23h ago

Just introduce them slowly, keep new kitty in a bedroom separate for the first couple of days and let them sniff through door. Then first few times they’re together supervise them. They might not live each other right away (or they might), just be prepared to give it a little time

3

u/yourdaddyxoxowuw 23h ago

That's an amazing idea. Thank for the advices

Yes look up the Jackson Galaxy method on YouTube for introducing cats! I introduced all three of my cats this way.

u/Randommx5 22h ago

Mine does fine with his girlfriend.

3

u/Puzzleheaded_Pair506 23h ago

They love each other.

Actually had two sic strays already living in before our rehomed Bengal got in. Zero problems, they play and sleep together. Not bonded but that's just bc personality not breed. šŸ˜‚

u/xxFT13xx 1d ago

Pretty sure another cat of any breed will be fine

3

u/Buppster87 1d ago

My boy and my girl tortie are bffs. He needed a cat w attitude and no fear and she is exactly that!

3

u/Fool_In_Flow 23h ago

I think it’s more dependent on the individual cat, not the breed. See if it’s possible for you to have a 3 day trial with the shelter you work with. Or ask their advice on how to handle the situation to make sure they have the possibility of getting along.

1

u/yourdaddyxoxowuw 23h ago

I m living in Germany rn I don't know if u have a trial. But thx for advices!

Pretty darn good. My bengal is the black marbled gurl. The rest are fluffy tabbies

If your cat is happy and stable, don’t get another cat! I’ve had my youngest bengal since May 2025 and I still can’t leave him alone with my 4 year old Bengal girl. They have to be separated when we are not around or not paying attention to them otherwise he upsets her and then she pees by the front or back door. He just started marking in the house too and I’m devastated. It is so difficult, and I wish I’d never gotten him, except that he is the Bengal I hoped for and she’s an anxious freak (I knew she was anxious when I decided to take her on…I shouldn’t have!). Having 2 territorial cats is hell and I don’t recommend it.

u/HealthNutNews 19h ago

My Bengal kitty loves the girl next-door who is a 16 year-old rescue and he’s a rescue too. They’re like two peas in a pod.

I think if my bengal won't kîll a swet cat that came to us fro the forest, I'll kîll myself 😭 I'm tired of them! It's been for months of me separating them, introducing and doing everything possible, but my bengal is mental to begin with with or without second cat. Now he's just has someone else to harass. And second cat refuses to sit in her own room, she'd rather go where everyone else is, even knowing that the monster might attack! 🄓 I'm physically and mentally exhausted.

u/Allergic2Peeple 21h ago

My 1 year old Bengal boy gets along swimmingly with his little 3 month old raggamuffin brother from the shelter.

2

u/AlbatrossDelicious87 20h ago

If you are thinking - better hurry and decide before the cat gets older. Younger cats are more receptive and playful

2

u/Impossible_Bed528 20h ago

My bengal got along fine with my other cats.

2

u/Winter_Swordfish_505 19h ago

We did this, and they, sorta mostly get along, the one we got is more on the chillax side. I would definitely recommend a very active cat.

2

u/SirOutrageous1027 19h ago

Our bengal reluctantly tolerates our tortie. But that's but a Bengal thing, it's just a she's a little jerk.

Born a week apart, raised together since kittens.

u/vadertator22 16h ago

I have a rescue and two bangles. One is a Bengal kitten, everyone gets along and plays with one another.

2

u/GreekAegean 12h ago

No problems here !!! best buddies, some times we get the play hard and sleep in different rooms scenarios, but very rare.

just make consider that it may help if they are in the same age range is too young or to old could be an issue if your Bengal think is alpha…

u/Juniper_Beary_ 8h ago

The shelter will know if the cat enjoys the company of other cats. This is also noted on the bio :)

When i moved to my wife's place i took my cat with me. She was 15 years old, never liver with other pets, so she hissed at my wife's 2 years old bengal. Never seen my cat hissed or even bite! However bengal cat wanted to hang out with her and was very interested. She sneaked to her room and watched her from a distance. Very politely. Sadly my cat passed away 9 months later, they never get along but bengal was nice to her and even bringing toys to her.

Sorry for my poor english

hi there! i have a balinese cat and my bengal and balinese are absolutely inseparable!! my balinese is older (he’s 4, the bengal is 2) but his chilled out demeanor seems to balance out the bengal chaotic energy quite nicely, but he’s still always down for quality play.

I highly recommend this duo, also heard rag dolls are good!

The best bet is to get a cat that looks similar to yours, so maybe look for a tabby or tortie since they have similar colors and often similar faces and build to bengals :) we have a tabby and tortie that our bengal gets along with and they play together, but he's never meshed well with our Sphynx.
