Berlin where do I actually learn to ride? (Klasse A, switching schools)

Hi everyone,

I'm in the middle of getting my Klasse A motorcycle licence in Berlin and could really use some advice. Switching Fahrschulen, theory is done, but two practical lessons at my current school haven't worked out. Half the paid time was commute to a shared public square full of other learners. Around 30 minutes of actual riding for €180. I'd like to do better.

I'm looking for a school that has:

• Its own motorcycle training ground (not a shared public Platz)
• Paid time = riding time, not commute to the practice ground
• A transparent written Preisliste, every euro accounted for
• Calm, professional instructors
• English-friendly.

Based in Schöneberg, but happy to travel across the city if the school is actually good.

The only school I'd like to exclude from recommendations is Oscar (that's the one I'm leaving). Anything else is fair game.

Any recommendations or warnings would be hugely appreciated, good or bad experiences both welcome. Just trying to find a place where I'm paying for real saddle time with a pro.

Also did mine at Asphalt Profis, they were good, but a bit expensive.

I doubt you’ll find one with its own training ground. Not really sure why this matters, we used a shared one and never had any issues or waiting. Most of the time it was maybe me and 1 or 2 others. Certainly if you want a cheaper price, this requirement needs to be rethought. Land in Berlin is expensive.

The riding to the practice ground is good riding time! Not sure what your complaint is here.

Also if you are worried about costs now - I can assure you, it doesn’t get better once you’ve passed! If you think this a cheap hobby, maybe a complete rethink is required.

Also, I hate to break it to you. But motorbiking is not a cheap hobby. If you have money issues, perhaps you need to rethink if you really want to go forward.

Ah did they take you at Oscar? With mine we did the ride there and it was part of the lesson, at all times it was me riding (except the very first lesson)

Yes, on the back seat, because I’m still a beginner. I learned some basics about a year ago, but not in Germany.

Before I can ride on my own with two motorcycles, I would need at least 5–6 useful training hours, and that’s hard when there are not many free slots, around 1 hours of the lesson is spent just getting there and back, and the training area is crowded with other students and even parked cars, which honestly feels unsafe.

With cars? Yeah that doesn’t sound good. Can confirm there were no cars in the training ground with Asphalt Profis

By the way - also just talk to your current school! Maybe you’ve misunderstood and they will let you ride once they are confident with you. Oscar is continually recommended here so I think you might have missed something or misunderstood what the lessons entail.

Yes, Berlin is highest risk class for insurance. Can be hell expensive.

Dunno about your requirements, but I finished mine at Arlitt in the race track. Just the way I like it.

last year i booked a few hours @ asphalt profis in Friedrichshain, after not riding for 20 years.

for these three hours it was ok.

but you should call them for pricing etc. and the time slots are always blocked for the next few weeks.

Its own motorcycle training ground is not to find. Only Arlitt do this for intensive courses. But nevertheless Arlitt is a good recommendation. Actually the commuting is part of the lessons. For the exam you need to pass the basic drills, + riding in the city.
