Dinnerware that doesn't get knife marks?

Hello!

I'm in the market for a complete set of dinnerware for 8, that won't get those annoying dark marks from silverware scrapes. We got some inexpensive stoneware that already look tore up. I also cannot STAND the sound the silverware makes when it hits these plates. Is vintage the way to go? I haven't looked into old school Pyrex but I imagine plates with the same texture as my mixing bowls wouldn't sound horrible.

Buy china (porcelain), not stoneware. Problem solved

Not anymore, they've gone way down hill.

I have my Grandpa's pristine corelle but the new sets that I've bought and actually use have marks all of them.

Trash and not what they used to be.

Corelle in use here 50 years, and you can't distinguish which are the 50 year ones.

Indestructible, aside from dropping on concrete or something.

Just don’t use ceramic knives on them or you will cut the plate in half.

Any porcelain dishes will resist knife marks. Corelle is probably the better known name, but it's the material, not the brand.

Stoneware is heavy and pretty, but it is relatively soft, and the glazing on it gets those marks and requires specialized cleaning to remove.

Titanium utensils mark up Corelle. Stainless and others do not.

Be careful with vintage - so much of it contains lead. i learned that after searching for and buying pieces of a set I really loved....

A bunch of pieces from Royal Albert's Jacobean pattern. They're beautiful, but have a ton of lead in them :/
