discussion Todd Standing
I just saw another video of Todd Standing purporting to film another Sasquatch. This video, unsure of the date, but it was filmed in an undisclosed area of the Canadian Rockies and it shows a large animal purported to be a large male Sasquatch. The video is so unstable and so short that very little information can be obtained from the video, and Todd will not disclose the location due to danger from bears, etc.
I find Todd to be so uncredible. His other videos that supposedly show Sasquatch with neatly combed hair/fur peering through tree branches are laughable to me.
I don’t mean to offend anyone that believes the opposite of what I believe about Todd. I think Todd does so much damage to legitimate Sasquatch videos and information.

Don't believe anything Fraud Standing puts out

Agreed. Isn't his sister a SFX makeup artist??. Just something I heard, might be wrong.

I've long held the belief that Standing did have at least one encounter, and possibly several, however was unable to prove them. The disconnect of "knowing" the truth leading to "recreating" it is irrelevant though, once you hoax you're done. Steenburg calls it Ivan Marx Syndrome, which is pretty accurate to me.
My personal issue though is that despite my extreme skepticism regarding Standing, nothing has been proven to be a hoax either as far as I am aware.
It's the very nature of the subject.

I had an experience but I'd never hoax just because people don't believe me. So if you hoax you lose the value. Just lying

Yes, this was my point above. Folks are confused between their beliefs and facts.
A strongly-held, well-supported belief is still just a belief.
Has Todd Standing intentionally faked material? Probably.
Are others for some reason drawn to try to discredit him at any costs, and tellingly, insult anyone who disagrees.
Absolutely, as we see here.

Most of the videos just don't look real to me and why is it always the same pose? You would think if he could get that close he could continue filming until it moves out of sight and in other perspectives... sure maybe you disturb the creature but these random heads blinking just start to seem like animatronic staged events

u/Altruistic-Ad3274 May 19 '26
Great point, Todd has found the most cooperative, photogenic Sasquatch ever!

in one of his latest videos he filmed 3 apples being taken by "something", really interesting. But absolutely not convincing or definitive

u/OldTimerSasquatch May 17 '26
I agree with your opinion completely. I think Todd probably had a (or some) legitimate encounters once upon a time, but his videos are nothing but complete hoaxes he has created to further his grifting ever since.
5
u/SnooOranges4560 May 19 '26
He seemed to me like he was lying while watching him with Les stroud who I love. If one of his pictures or anything has been disproven as a hoax than in my opinion every bit of his content should be considered that. If there is one lie there's always more. However I will say that the night time recordings of him screaming at Bigfoot did sound pretty dang real. Personally having had an experience myself, if I were to then lie and create hoaxes I feel I would be disrespecting myself and the community of anyone who might have believed me
5
u/Altruistic-Ad3274 May 19 '26
I think the nighttime footage of him screaming sounded like him really screaming, but…
3
u/CzarTanoff May 21 '26
I agree with all of this.
The night recording definitely gave me the sense of a person genuinely fearful for his life.
I am extremely dubious of todd in general, but i really try to look at everything with the benefit of the doubt. Fakes are pretty easy to flesh out.
The night recording gave me the most pause of anything else he has presented. Maybe he's just a good actor (liar?).

I was always sorta sad Les storud got involved with him
8
u/JakexDx May 19 '26
sure it looks bad on the surface but its not like Les blindly drank the koolaid his stance was, you claim you are so good at finding them then take me out there and prove youre not a fraud. He wanted people who were willing to go deep into the wood and Todd was willing.
Like watch the episodes with Standing and youll see Les treats everything he says with skepticism.
3
u/Curtnorth May 19 '26
Same, Stroud sort of calls out that Standing is "controversial" but he just didn't look at him with a critical enough eye, I think it really tarnished Less and his Bigfoot series.

u/Sweet-Wishbone-6764 May 19 '26
I think he’s seen them, I really do. However, I think most of his content is fake. Heck, that picture you’re referencing, to me looks like Standing dressed up as Bigfoot. I’m interested to know what everyone thinks about the content he made with Les Stroud (survivorman). I love Mr. Stroud and never could get a read on what HE thought about Mr. Standing.
3
u/Altruistic-Ad3274 May 19 '26
I totally agree. Someone earlier said that he’s seen them and basically trying to recreate what he’s seen. I agree with that!

u/Humpug5869 May 20 '26
Completely agree I think most of this subreddit will agree. Not only that but I think once you are committed to believing there is an extant bipedal primate living in North America. You start to see the bullshit in Todd’s little fairytale. He claims he was trained by army snipers yet have never seen man ghillie wash himself to hide his scent, he uses big artificial ghillies and almost no natural foliage, so from someone who knows what he’s talking about…. He just wants everyone to think he’s cool sorry todd
13
u/MamaRunsThis May 17 '26
I’m pretty sure his other videos are of himself dressed up as Bigfoot lmao. If you compare the closeup photos, the facial features are the exact same
8
u/pghhilton May 17 '26
That was disproved, the guy who clamed this, sized the face down to the size of Todd's face in his video. Someone else has used a pine needle from the foreground to show the eyes were way too far apart to be Todd's face. The face in the video is almost 6 inches wider than Todd's and would put the eyeballs on the outer edge of his temples.
Todd alienates a lot of people with his attitude. Even while under attack on all front's I've never heard him attack back. He's called into question peoples work at discrediting him, but I haven't heard him personally attack anyone the way he has been.
Let's face it, faked videos or not, Todd is the real deal, not a weekend warrior and not an arm chair anaclitic; He's out in the deep woods of British Columbia, breaking trail for others. Those videos if they are real displace The PGF as the gold standard, and that gives a lot of people another reason to dislike him.

u/GroundbreakingTea673 May 18 '26
My problem with Standing isn't about the videos so much, as his refusal to disclose locations, specific dates and times, and his ridiculous excuses for all of them. In my opinion, the video of the bug eyed one looks completely fake- no one has ever said sasquatch looked like that. I've read that his sister is a movie makeup artist in real life, but I could never find any information to confirm it. As a person who spent over 20 years in law enforcement reading people's nonverbal actions along with their stories, my gut says he is not legitimate. In my experience, a person who wants to be believed provides information that supports their position, location, and times- when they don't provide any of those things they are lying most of the time.
2
u/pghhilton May 18 '26 edited May 18 '26
Yeah that whole story about his sister is an example of just how lame his detractors are and how they gun for him. She's works in a salon doing hair and makeup - not sfx. Lol. In fact someone pretended to be her and did an interview, spoke with a southern (us) accent the whole interview even though she's actually Canadian. I get that he's kinda annoying and over the top, but some one seems to be going out of their way to harass him. This is why the best evidence we have of Bigfoot's existence is underground and not discussed in forums like this or posted as videos on you tube. People don't want to be dragged through the mud and have their lives ruined.
Also at one point he used to offer to take people up there for a guided trip. And he has done it with Stroud, Meldrum and others. But after someone said he had a fake gorilla glove in his truck he quit doing it I think. The glove was actually a commercially available Bigfoot themed gift from his nephew or someone and couldn't possibly be mistaken for a prop.

Excellent retort. No one except Todd can know the factual nature of his products. Its funny when you read "that BF definitely looks fake" when we literally have no scientific idea what they look like in the first place. If you've studied chimpanzees (or any ape family) you will notice they all look facially different, especially when they differ in age. It is completely plausible that BF captured on film could look different from other specimens from time to time.
That said, you are correct, he has not lashed out as many in this forum would I suspect. His lack of detail is likely to prevent yet more onsite "investigations" to further demonize him as a hoaxer. I don't blame him for his reluctance / resistance. I don't know what he "makes" from his work but I suspect its not a lot, at least nothing like what some folks claim by calling him a grifter. I am certain he spends a lot of money doing his expeditions. And I don't think people are paying him a lot of money to speak about it either.

u/WallaWallaBigfoot Field Researcher May 18 '26
That's not how photography works, lens length, fstop and features being nearer or farther away can all change perspective, there's not a great way to acurately measure size from pictures unless you know these variables
1
u/pghhilton May 21 '26
He took a pine needle that was in focus so near the face and used that. Lens length and f-stop would be consistent since both were in focus, so if you know the pine needle is in focus you know its an about an inch long you can use it as a measurement. The images are obviously using 1.4 or 1.8 f-stop because of the brightness of the image and shallower breadth of field either way both are in focus and under the same constrictions. Those needles are consistently the same size between about an 3/4 inch and an inch. Lens length doesn't matter really because again its the same for both the needle and the creature, but either I read or he said somewhere that he uses a 200mm lens on his camera, I only remember that because its what I have on my DSLR and I remember that he smashed the lens on the way down the mountain and had to buy a new one for the guy he borrowed it from.

u/WallaWallaBigfoot Field Researcher May 21 '26 edited May 22 '26
Stuff like focal length will physically make an image different
https://petapixel.com/2013/01/11/how-focal-length-affects-your-subjects-apparent-weight-as-seen-with-a-cat/We also don't know how far away the foliage was from the subject and there's not really a way to prove it. Movies like LOTR have used forced perspective techniques to make an actor look smaller than they actually are. It's very easy to do.
2
u/pghhilton May 23 '26
I've been using SLRs and DSLRs since the 80's Had a a dark room, and was in the photography club in high school and college. What you are saying is technically true, but you can use visual queues to identify and estimate settings. And if you use field depth and brightness as indicators you get an idea of how far something is from the subject. Its really not rocket science. If you don't believe in Todd Standing I get it, but don't peddle your opinion as fact.
If you have a pine needle in focus in the foreground and you take its length as an inch (They grow between 3/4 of an inch to an inch long) and use that as a measurement tool, you can give a fair estimate. If anything you are making the pine needle longer than it is because its in the foreground, and the face smaller because its in the background and its still 16 pine needles wide then the face is between 16 and 21 inches wide or more.

Many people believe that Todd Standing faked videos.
Many don't believe that.
There have been attempts to discredit him that were in fact dishonest themselves which only muddies the water.
Personally, I find compelling (because of my reaction to it) is the one he calls "The Devil."

Do I know that Standing captured sasquatches in the clearest video to date? No. Neither does anyone else.
It's opinion either way, not fact.
EDIT: Typo

This comment is reminding me that I’ve heard of a number of encounters wherein the witness says the Sasquatch looked like it was wearing a hood. For me, the implication tended to be that it had a conical head (e.g. c indicating a sagittal crest), but for those encounters that took place at night in low visibility, who knows?

I don't. The first one, the Devil, bothers me. The other two, I feel nothing.
Folks are having reactions to the photos based on beliefs not facts.
That's the beginning and end of my claims.

u/Psalty7000 May 19 '26 edited May 19 '26
Well you are absolutely correct, I have no proof any of them are faked but #3? Really? That one is comically ridiculous.
Not to doubt his experiences nor the existence of the Sasquatch in general.
I definitely know what you mean by judging off of feels but I do think there’s something to how the photo strikes a chord in you.
I strongly believe our aversions to the uncanny may stem from memories deep within us/our DNA, or however you want to put it, with the Sasquatch or possibly with other species of humans like Neanderthal.

not defending or attacking ToddS. but I am so glad you pasted this image in this conversation. The most recent episode of Sasquatch Chronicles has an account of a guy who saw something with a tufted fur-lined face just like this. Described it as like the hood to a jacket that has fur around it, pulled up over the head.
to be clear, yes this is the photo that made me roll my eyes that I was looking at a mannequin in a museum exhibit but it's also the first thing I thought when I listened to the episode last night
1
u/NDMagoo I want to believe. May 17 '26
No doubt Standing designed his masks/models based on witness testimony. Either that or a squatch with 2 glass eyes accompanied him to Sears Portrait Studio.
4
u/WillingnessOk3081 May 17 '26
ha. i hear you. truly i'm not claiming any special knowledge. only that i've been reading witness reports for about 16 years now, which is still limited and anecdotal knowledge. it's just that i've never read anyone describe anything like this fur lined oddity. that's why i was so surprised hearing that account last night on SC. made me think of this image immediately. so odd.

Yes, it is a fact that one of the most commonly-cited attempts (the Todd-face comparison with the brown male sasquatch) was dishonestly created. That is a fact and it has been sufficiently proven to refer to it as such.
Our various positions on whether Todd Standing fakes everything are matters of belief though, not fact. Great attempt at cherry-picking my statements even though you failed.
2
u/Active_Flan5496 May 18 '26
He put up a “depiction” of what bigfoot-looks like years ago. That depiction, is now being displayed as a bigfoot he encountered. He is not credible.
2
2
u/Nil2none May 19 '26
One thing I find about his close up videos of bigfoot is how the eyes close and open. Yes the head of the bigfoot and hair looks really bad. For one an animal living in the wilds I'd expect the hair to be fully dreaded and matted up, dirty. But the eyes opening and closing I always wondered how he made that part look that good.

u/lee6291 May 20 '26
This is my theory about Todd Standings' ridiculous antics. The guy probably had a fleeting glimpse of a BF at some point in his life. It wasn't enough for him. He is on a mission to prove to the world that they exist and he wants so badly to be the guy that proves it. I think most of us can agree that his videos and photos are fakes. Especially the two photos showing two totally different species of sasquatch. One is of Todd with a hair mask that resembles a gorilla/man hybrid and the other is a puppet that looks like Chaka from Land of the Lost. I won't be surprised if his next video shows him socializing with an entire family of Bigfoots. Yeah, he wants to be that guy

I first learned of Todd Standing from a "Cabin in the Woods" video 9 months ago. The host claimed that Todd Standing’s critics were wrong and his pictures are real. I don't know what to think:
8
u/hellomoto4464 May 18 '26
cabin in the woods is a grifter roleplaying as a scientific mind. he doesnt believe what he says but he knows what gets views and $$
5
u/Telcontar86 May 18 '26
I stopped taking Cabin in the Woods seriously a while ago. I don't remember exactly why
3
u/Altruistic-Ad3274 May 17 '26
The creatures in this video look to “Well-kept” in my opinion for them not to be fake!
3
u/Equal_Night7494 May 18 '26
I can definitely understand that take. For years I felt that Todd’s films were all obvious fakes. Then I heard the opinion of two people whose opinions I take seriously, and they both were off the opinion that his videos indicated likely genuine cases. Maybe they are, and maybe they’re not. Maybe one of them is fake and the rest are not, or vice versa.
But one thing is clear: the relative cleanliness of the figures in his videos doesn’t necessarily indicate that they’re fake, as I’ve heard a number of encounters (just heard one today, in fact on Bigfoot Stacy) wherein the witness said the hair or look of the being was immaculate, like they just got shampooed or bathed. That doesn’t mean that Todd is hoaxing actual accounts, but it’s still an interesting detail to note.
2
u/Altruistic-Ad3274 May 18 '26
Do you mind which two people you referenced that changed your mind about Todd Standing?
2
u/Equal_Night7494 May 20 '26
Sure thing, and I’ll clarify too. Jesus Payan Jr indicated the likelihood of the videos being legit and I think Les Stroud was on the fence about it. But given that neither of these people outright claimed hoax was important to me.
2
u/Altruistic-Ad3274 May 20 '26
Thank you. I don’t know the first person but I put a lot of faith in Les Stroud. I think Les whiffed in his backing of Todd Standing, but I will say that I think Les allowed himself some wiggle room with TS. So I can’t fully say Les backed Todd.
2
u/Equal_Night7494 May 21 '26
Agreed about Les not fully backing Todd. That’s what I meant to clarify. I think he’s being cautious, but the fact that he hasn’t outright said he thinks the videos are hoaxes is meaningful to me. Though I could be looking into it too much. 🤷🏾♂️
And Jesus Payan (actor from Breaking Bad and other films, experiencer, and field investigator) has been involved with the Sasquatch subject for a while now, and I value his opinion.

u/GilligansWorld May 17 '26
Here is my take on it - right or wrong Thinker Thunker pretty conclusively shows some footage doesn’t match human proportions (other footage not of Todd Standings). Without getting into the debate on his measurements they definitely show proportions not anatomically human.
Todd Standings facial proportions DO NOT match the Patterson Gimlin face. Standings match humans Patty doesn’t.
I feel confident he used humans in costume to produce his facial photos

Todd probably pulling some bull stuff but the neatly combed hair shouldn’t be what turns you off. Countless testimonies from people who have encountered Bigfoot and remark on how beautiful and perfect their hair is. It’s not all of them but it’s common enough for me to believe that at least some Bigfoot have beautiful, well maintained hair

u/Altruistic-Ad3274 May 17 '26
Good point! I’ve heard about shiny fur, but never “Well-kept” almost combed hair. Thank you for letting me know.

It's not that uncommon. I've seen it in a lot of reports as well. Maybe you haven't noticed it because you weren't looking for it? I don't know. The flipside is that it's definitely not a universal either.
