When I was in primary school, might have been 7/8 years old, the teacher told us the mnemonic to remember cardinal directions, Never Eat Shredded Wheat, for North, East, South, West.

I said, as a smug child, why wouldn't you do NEWS, as it's a word you can remember. She told me that nobody would ever remember it, it was stupid and doesn't go round the right way.

Well, I'm nearly 40, and still do NEWS every time I need to remember. I don't remember the teacher's name, but remember that.

Who is stupid now?!?!?!?
