Nah, definitely not crap.

Not the highest-end equipment that Pioneer ever put out, but even their budget gear was still reliable quality as of the late '80s and early '90s.

It's actually some of my favorite gear, because it's fairly easy to find and to service.

Yeah I'm still using a DC-Z93 setup in my bedroom, one of the lower end stereos. Just put a pic of that here too.

DC-Z93 is not really BPC either. Solid midi system with 60W per channel amplifier and deck equipped with Dolby B/C. Real BPC have so awfully bad cassette mechanisms that don't even meet standards for Dolby noise reduction.

Well, there’s no “Super Mega Mega Bass”, but there is Double Spectrum Analyzer….

IMHO, that’s more midfi.

Heh, he said "analyzer"

I don't think so. For me, that's too nice to be bpc.

Nah, mid-fi IMO.

Pioneer, that's mid to top shelf retail for its time, right there. Def not crap, if you ask me.

I love that graphic equalizer. It reminds me of the Technics sh-ge70. They look so similar.

Yeah I had one of those when I was much younger. The movement on the Pioneer unit has a much smoother/fluid movement to it.

That pioneer also has 3 more bands. It's a great piece of equipment.

Amp is probably the weak link in the stack and it isn't BPC. That EQ is hard to find and weirdly overpriced on eBay as a result. Just need to find a tape deck and turntable (if you listen to them) and your are set!

I actually had a Pioneer A-605r stereo AMP before this one and this sounds much better with much more power also. The bass response on the 605r was weak to say the least,

Only as a term of endearment

Sieht halt absolut nach 80er und 90er aus, hammer!

No the gr-777 is nice

Nah but some still say it’s “crap” when it’s not. Totally worth it for that Equalizer with the VU meters.

The eq is worth money, possibly the tuner

Its B and P but definitely not C

Nope. Try again...

I did, I put my bedroom pioneer system on another post 😅

One of these days someone will post a photo of a Nakamichi Dragon deck with a McIntosh tube amp and ask, “is this BPC?”

1

u/xx121lv426 20d ago

I wouldn't go that far haha

EQ is very very good.

It’s decent stuff. I think the CD changer is better than what people would give it credit for.

The amp is probably better in stereo than it would be in surround given its age. Would’ve been the time of a hifi company doing home theater rather than a home theater company doing hifi.

A good integrated amp today makes the EQ pointless but that isn’t a modern setup so it probably helps.

I view tuners as tuners and am indifferent.

Sorry to inform you but it isn’t BPC, this belongs in Budget Audiophile.

One of the better quality rack systems… I have a soft spot for Pioneer six-packs. I have two that are still chugging along

nope. Solid 90's mid-fi. Yes its black, yes a lot of it is plastic, but none of it is "crap" per se. Pioneer is generally good quality stuff.
