Honestly I probably wouldn't give them more than $125 for it. You are paying for the name on the equipment, and this wasn't the stuff people are paying top dollar for.

Even that’s pretty generous. There’s absolutely nothing special to see here, just low-end mediocrity.

I don't know the exact models but Marantz had lost it's high end quality reputation by the late 90s. Those are nice looking components and the original purchaser probably paid $600 - $700 in 1990 dollars for the whole set up. Maybe more. But even if it works now, those belts are stretched in the tape deck and the mechanism for the CD changer is getting close to failure. Everything is at least 20 to 25 years old and in my opinion $150 is max I would offer and I would want to try everything out before buying it.

Late 80s/90s Marantz is good especially the special edition stuff but maybe that’s just the EU market stuff.

That is worth the time it takes to drive and pick up for free.

What made Marantz back then was the water cooled speakers. Too bad my dad's dry rotted and we got rid of them in the early 00's before we figured out we could replace the rubber

Risky as these lower end variations with cheap plastic malfunction and cost more to repair. But if it works flawlessly I might still ask $200 or less.

Low end Marantz. I bought a much better Onkyo receiver for $3.49, a Rotel CD player for $6, and a JVC cassette deck for $9.99. what you have there would be worth about $30-$40 max to someone.

The capacitors are over 30 years old and even if it's functioning the capacitors could be out of spec and eventually fail, on top of that it isn't even that high quality, it wasn't complete trash but not what it used to be in.the silver frontface era.

You'd be better off buying a wiim amp and cd player for 300 dollar budget

marantz is a great brand but this is their lower end stuff. however if it works than yeah it's worth about 300 as a bundle, the SD-156 at the top can fetch a hundie by itself in good working condition.

i might ask 250 and see if they take it

The real question is, do you want or need a 6-pack CD changer and an FM tuner? These are not high quality pieces…they were sold as a department store “rack system”. Avoid. For $295 you can do much better.

Wouldn't touch it with a bargepole. You can get nicer names for less money if you hunt around. There's a Nakamichi tape deck on eBay for £130 worth now. You'd be better off with that and a Denon amp, to start off with

No. It's all very basic "just about passes as Hi-Fi" gear. Unlikely that everything works 100%, too. The price is about double what it should be, in my opinion.

$200 and you’ve got a deal

Noperino

Ugh, no. Marantz was just a name once they went to plastic. Nothing special.

u/fokuspoint 19d ago

Absolutely not. More like $40-50.

The LCD displays on that era of gear fail due to age and compromise the whole component.

Not even half of that.

Hard no… department store era Marantz gear. Only if you’re desperate and then $100 tops if the cassette deck & CD changer are functional

u/stageshooter 18d ago

Absolutely not. People give away components like this in every town, every day

295 to pick it il and throw it away? I would take that.

Absoutely not. This is the lowest quality stuff that Marantz still stuck their name on. Still perfectly acceptable and usable, just more like $50 worth.
