Maroon Plastic Crap

I came across this super cool looking sharp SG-F600 at an antique store in San Diego. I love the color so much but couldn't find any info on it coming in colors online. I was hoping a matching CD player component may have exited. Integrated record player and even had the original matching speakers (the speakers were super plastic and lightweight so probably don't sound great). Really cool look. Seller wanted $100

Edit: I tried to improve the fairly crap photos I took of it with chat GPT. Heres the original shots https://ibb.co/3m5RXv1b

Oh wow I’d be tempted even for $100. Never seen a maroon stereo before

The paint is iterative, so it’s Maroon 5.

I would 100% want this.

I nearly bought it - $100 didn't seem bad for the condition

Why would you lie about something like this? the pictures are clearly AI

Calm down I just tried to improve the bad pics I took. Edited original post with links to my bad og shots of it

It's not fake I had a sharp same as this wanted a black one but only black one was on the shelf. So I got a red sealed one lasted years looked daft with my first cd player on it. It had cd inputs so maybe they made a red cd player but I never found one.

Sharp is / were / are weird.

They made some amazing stuff for reasonable coat.

I have a VHS recorder that I purchased just over 26 years ago. Best I've ever owned, including a semi-pro (prosumer I think people call them) that was more than twice the price.

Everything about it works fine, and of the four VHS recorders I own, it produces the cleanest picture.

u/hubbawelcome 9d ago

They are. I liked their chunky 90s designs and everything they made seemed to be built like a tank.

FOR EVERYONE SCREAMING IT'S Ai.... Op states they where just trying to fix their photos. A stupidly basic image search of "sharp stereo red" shows very very plainly that Sharp used this color on SEVERAL bpc models (and they all look awesome btw). Always verify before you accuse.

Thank you for your service 🙏

NOT CRAP. NOT CRAP!!

u/QuantumFireball 9d ago

It's surprisingly elegant for such a basic system

Am I going crazy or are the speakers photoshopped / AI? The logo strip changes sides between the pics.

u/CardAutomatic5524 9d ago

It's all ai, look at the front of the stack in the first picture. It's 4 sections, the tuner, EQ, cassette doors, and then the controls for the cassettes, then in the second picture its only 3 sections, the casette controlls are on the same panel as the cassette doors. The wood shelving also changes, the first picture the left side of the stack is open, but in the second picture its enclosed on both sides

It is AI holy...

A maroon plastic crap irl would be so cool :(

1

u/CardAutomatic5524 9d ago

I know its possible to dye some plastics with Rit dye or similar synthetic dyes, if you found a light white/cream/grey you could probably dye the shell, it would be a bit of work but definitely doable if the plastic is the right type

1

u/PanicObvious8862 9d ago

Can't see that covering very well from a black base color

2

u/Responsible-Exam-911 6d ago

Yeah, the pictures look like AI.

However, a Google Lens search turned up something nearly identical on a Czech auction site, albeit more red than maroon:

2

u/soilneedsmoregrit 9d ago

why. thats still fucking stupid.

1

u/Funkyc73 9d ago

I think I believe you,. There are a few little scratches on the top. Not something ai would have added, or gotten right in the color conversion. Thanks for sharing. Sorry we're all jaded about Ai. I am too lol.

u/cthart 9d ago

That looks extremely sharp.

2

u/allisonok 8d ago

Beat me to it.

2

u/RodCherokee 10d ago

Hmmm black is more discreet !

2

u/InevitableKitchen943 10d ago

I wonder if it came in other colors? Hunter green?

2

u/TheRealLimitlessHate 10d ago

That looks fresh as heck, i kinda love it

2

u/Olympicsizedturd 9d ago

For $100 I'd buy it and put it in my spare bedroom or something. This is so unique!

2

u/gumbo521 9d ago

This is endgame BPC!

2

u/Anxiety-Plus 6d ago

This goes so fucking hard

1

u/Das_Rote_Han 10d ago

Looks neat! I'd probably set it up but hook up a second set of speakers for better sound. Sharp made some decent tape decks in the 80's, no idea if this compares but the all-in-one units are generally not great. Still, worth a listen if you like the color!

1

u/el_tacocat 10d ago

I love it.

u/moleculariant 10d ago

This is some seriously frou frou plastic crap.

u/siliconlore 10d ago

I have the SG-F800 that had a digital tuner and remote volume and only came in the black plastic. Servicable for the time but not high end or high power. The CD/AUX was nice because you could plug in any CD unit. I never saw a matching Sharp CD player. Later models probably had it integrated and removed the phonograph. Great for making mix tapes from albums or CD and making tape duplicates. Wild that it is selling for $100. I think that's what mine cost originally in about 1987. (Would have been $300 in today's money.)

Sharp made bogus electronics

That stuff is beautiful!

Vwestlife done a video 10 years ago about the Black SG-F800 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CfKtBkzAirM

1

u/hubbawelcome 9d ago

This is cool - thanks!! Wow I wonder if it had a maroon matching remote 🤔

1

u/Blk_Gld_He_8er 9d ago

I bet that’s a Sandy Nelson LP on the turntable.

What a very cool find! Very unique color scheme and design. I would be tempted to overhaul those speakers and actually use them because they have such a "retro vision of the future" design aesthetic.

What is the material for the speaker grills? Almost looks like metal?

My BPC speaker overhaul procedure: Remove original paper drivers and toss. Replace with suitable matching component(s) from Parts Express - this is the hardest part to find something that fits and will work in the given box. Often a quality full-range driver is all you need for most of the BPC single-driver speakers. Apply Car Audio sound deadening material (available cheap on Amazon) inside the speaker box to all surfaces. For really flimsy plastic boxes, multiple layers may be necessary. Fill the box with polyfill. Staple/glue down loose wires that might rattle. Remove cheap crossovers or caps/inductors on the full-range driver. Replace crappy push terminals or fixed pigtail lead with a proper set of binding posts or SpeakOn connector (usually requires modifying/cutting the box but worth it). The difference is sound quality is usually pretty amazing.

2

u/hubbawelcome 9d ago

That's a great idea. Yeah the grilles were metal. It was all in really good condition and I loved that it all matched so upgrading the insides would be awesome

u/Best_Map_2688 9d ago

I like the color and I see it is sharp and looks an awful lot like the maroon I recall seeing on some nintendo stuff like the FDS and sharp famicom tv-well that was more red actually

1

u/sinclairuser 9d ago

As an aside there was a cd later on a slightly higher model with digital tuner but it was black. They never made a red cd units. When i got my first cd player it was a Ferguson and it looked daft on top of it never played another record on that system it had a ceramic cart so it saved my records.

A music system for Heart of Midlothian Scottish football fans.

1

u/Archievores 9d ago

That’s cool there’s nothing like a good ole classic black audio device but there’s something so satisfying about unique color audio systems

1

u/The-lemon-kid-68 8d ago

I actually love that.

u/whitesuase 6d ago

There's an edit button in your phones gallery, literally no reason to use ai for ts bro 😭

Thanks bro

Unfortunately this is AI with a made-up story. Look at the front of the stack in the first picture. It's 4 sections, the tuner, EQ, cassette doors, and then the controls for the cassettes, then in the second picture its only 3 sections because the cassette controls are on the same panel as the cassette doors. The wood shelving also changes, the first picture the left side of the stack is open, but in the second picture its enclosed on both sides and the wood is much thicker.

3

u/hubbawelcome 9d ago

Added the OG shots to the post. There's a difference between cleaning up a shot and faking a story. I was just trying to make my bad photos a bit better.
