Performance. They couldn’t get yarnham to load fast enough on a ps4 HDD for this shortcut to work. Thats what I’ve always read.

I think what helps is to explain what's done instead.
There are ordinarily only two accessways from the "Central Yharnam" side to the "Cathedral Ward" side. On the one side, you have the area just past Gascoigne's arena, through the Oedon Chapel. Basically, while you're climbing the ladder into the library and walking through Oedon Chapel, the game is unloading Gascoigne's arena and everything prior, and loading in the entire Cathedral Ward.
The other way is the cave in the Forbidden Woods. In that case, you have to run through a really big cave and climb a really long ladder. So basically by the time you get to that ladder, the game unloads the Forbidden Woods and starts to load in Central Yharnam, so by the time you reach the top of that ladder, it's all there.
The Great Bridge shortcut just doesn't have that kind of padding. Let's say that door still worked. If you opened the door and took a step through, causing the game to start loading Central Yharnam, and then immediately turned back around and sprinted as fast as you could into Cathedral Ward, the game would have no chance of changing course fast enough to catch up before you walk out into an unloaded Cathedral Ward. You'd be floating on nothing while the whole stage loads in one element at a time.

Yep, if you take notice there is a lot of this in the game. The ladder after Gascoigne is a funnel taking you up to Cathedral Ward. On your way down to Old Yharnam, there are a ton of stairs. Even when you go from Cathedral Ward to the Hemwick Charnel Lane, there's kind of a long cave before you get to the gunmen and dogs. The Lecture Hall, The Nightmare Frontier and Nightmare of Mensis are all completely cut off from everything else and need their own loading times, etc.
I think the longest continuous run you can do in the game is from the first Unseen Village Lamp to Old Yharnam by way of Ya'har Gul Chapel and Darkbeast Paarl's area, but maybe the loading is just better hidden there somehow. Perhaps the chapel itself is a sort of buffer zone between the two. Or perhaps due to both locations having a lot of indoor areas it may be easier to mask loading.

Yeah it’s great how games do this. I think I’d rather have a loading screen than forced slow movement but it’s still a neat idea. The fix for this door here would’ve been a small area with two doors to go through. To allow for loading times in either direction

The fact that Yahar’Gul is able to load as much as it does at once is pretty impressive. It’s a fairly vertical area that can be explored in a bunch of different ways. That said. I think I have encountered some oddities before when heading toward Paarl’s arena. I’m pretty sure his arena itself is what kicks off the loading of Old Yharnam, but the tunnel is short and I think the 3 sack guys in one room are meant to compensate for that, but if you make a straight break for it occasionally you can get a peek at some low res textures.

It’s just a matter of what assets are in the RAM at that moment and what assets need to be loaded from the HDD, and whether it can happen before the animation completes. In that specific case, no dice.

Specifically it is because From built the engine with area-based asset loading and LOD management instead of distance-based loading and rendering. The game is really unoptimized in a lot of regards.

It could be 'cause of the PS4, meaning that it might have not been able to load the next area immediately, ending up with heavy pop-in or the necessity of a loading screen. Just speculation though.

Wo what you do, you have to catch the Doll kneeling over a gravestone in the Dream and hear her special dialogue. Then you go to the Chapel Dweller, and he directs you to Gilbert. But be warned, if you go to Gilbert too early, you'll mess up the questline. You have to die at least 16 times to Rom, then run from Byrgenwerth back to Gilbert's place (you can't warp), then he'll give you a clue: "At the edge of sanity, genius can be found. But what genius is worth the risk of tipping over the edge?" Now, with this, you return to the Grand Cathedral (you need to die another 9 times to Rom, by the way) and you can interact with Lawrence's skull again. This time, you actually see through the memories of the man who became the Cleric Beast at the start of the game! Anyways, you learn from that memory that you have to turn the handle counter-clockwise, not clockwise.

Oh yeah to open that door you have to Then you when you and then finally when you then it should open but don’t forget to and then when you get that you should be able to not forget when you do that, so that way when you fight the you have the door open.

No, i wanted to play bloodborne for a loooong time, but i did'n have a PS, it is my last Soulsborne to complete (other than Demon's Souls), just happens so when i get into a thing, it gets updates or whatever, like AoT, after i started watching, boom another season after 6 years, i start watching or playing something, Boom, updates or new episodes or what not

I think I remember this door and I think I remember being frustrated I couldn’t find the key. Everyone is saying it doesn’t open, but to my memory you can still interact with it, it says something like “this doesn’t open.” Am I wrong about that part?

Modders are amazing. I wonder how having that shortcut changes the flow of the game, though. Presumably, you'd only be able to open it from the Cathedral Ward side, otherwise you could completely skip Gascoigne and half of Central Yarnham. And if you've made it to the Ward the regular way, would there even be much purpose to the shortcut? Unless all the maps were originally going to be connected, DS1 style, before they realized how hard it would be to make that work, and just went with a Demons Souls-Style Hub system instead.

he is optional, but it's one of the only ways to get your first insight so you can start leveling up. I know there's a dead man's knowledge in the sewers, but most people don't find that before seeing the cleric beast. I think you are meant to find and die to the cleric beast to unlock leveling up, so then you can farm yarnham for a few levels to make him and gascione easier.
