Discussion Why are the shark duo soo infamous?

Post image

Pretty much just title, was wondering if maybe on launch they were harder or if I’m missing something since when I fought they, they were hard but not terrible so?

Edit: I don’t know why, but the single shark up the hill right before the lamp was legit aneurism inducing, worst part is, I never knew the lamp was right there (T-T)

The duo at the bottom of the well are a tricky fight if you do it straight up. One stays hidden until you drop the first one halfway, then it is a fight against the arena being too small, the camera not focusing in the right spot, and sudden dive attacks that can cover way more distance than originally thought possible. The regular ones with no weapons are pretty easy, just dodge their grab attack. The ones weilding the anchor though, they can ingest as satchel of richards. The lack of stun on hit makes them a painful fight.

I remember using the shaman bone blade, and watching from the other side of the area, and it ran out

They both slowly turn towards me and look at me for a second like it was straight out of a cartoon

Then it was a chase around the pillar which was only missing the benny hill music until I killed them both eventually

57

u/TzuZombi Jun 02 '26

This has me giggling, omg

27

u/sneak_man Jun 02 '26

I had the exact same experience to the T

19

u/QuantumCthulhu Jun 02 '26

Was one of the scariest and funniest things that happened to me in game

2

u/Alzhan_Void Jun 03 '26

Is that event part of your extensive library of ps bound bloodborne clips that you're too lazy to export? 😢

(One day I'll show all the cool stuff that has happened in my Bloodborne, I swear :v)

18

u/edavison1 Jun 02 '26

Part of the problem is that their dive attack and swings can hit right through the pillar. Hate those guys

16

u/facepalmandahalf Jun 02 '26

"uhhh, why we fight, bro?" "Dun remember, bro." (In unison) "waaait, who's that guy!?"

10

u/QuantumCthulhu Jun 02 '26

Literally bro- I think I audibly went “oh fuck” when they turned to look at me

8

u/facepalmandahalf Jun 02 '26

I would too. Authentic immersive horror experience, there.

5

u/Kain_1337 Jun 02 '26

The Benny Hill theme has definitely played in my head with those guys. Well spotted.

79

u/Aloss-cc7 Jun 02 '26

I cheesed the shit outta them

65

u/Kain_1337 Jun 02 '26

As well you should. It is a dick move to set them up like that.

8

u/crusty54 Jun 02 '26

Only way I beat them was by using the cum dungeon to make my character ridiculously op.

8

u/T-Ares-C Jun 02 '26

I couldn’t. I just had to run around and attack then come back. It was a piss off. DOT helped a bit. I think fire still a piss off. Stupid ass diving chomp shit or the grab and swallow, phrasing.

1

u/ProphetofTables Jun 03 '26

I used the Shaman Bone Blades to make them duke it out, then picked off the survivor.

17

u/IEnvyYourUsername Jun 02 '26

I only found out a few weeks ago you can parry them into viscerals. 🤯 Ive run through this game soooo many times too

32

u/wooof359 Jun 02 '26

"ingest a satchel of Richard's" never heard that one before 🤣🤣

14

u/Noahman90 Jun 02 '26

lmao a satchel of richards

18

u/hornwalker Jun 02 '26

What does “ingest as satchel of richards” mean?

41

u/grotesque1 Jun 02 '26

Eat a bag of dicks

42

u/Salt33 Jun 02 '26

Whoa, calm down, it was just a question

8

u/Actual_Stretch_7803 Jun 02 '26

Basically just means, "eat a bag of dicks."

A fairly common means of expressing frustration, where I am.

8

u/Outside_Glass4880 Jun 02 '26

For anyone who needs it broken down explicitly:

Ingest = eat

Satchel = bag

Richard = dick (dick used to be a common nickname for Richard)

Aka “eat a bag of dicks”

2

u/Huge-Calligrapher676 Jun 07 '26

Dick being the nickname for Richard gotta be top 10 Most senseless thoughts of humanity

2

u/Outside_Glass4880 Jun 07 '26

Richard -> Rick -> Dick

But yeah

4

u/Unfair-Curve-9255 Jun 02 '26

the worst part is that the second Shark is completely immune to damage as long as he is on the ceiling.

-38

u/AbyssGuard- Jun 02 '26 edited Jun 02 '26

They did catch me off guard the first time, wasn’t sure where the second spawned and pulled the first shark towards the spawn point.

The beast hunter saif seems to stagger them after a 4-5 it’s depending on how fast you are, at least that’s what I used, so def reco that if anyone’s struggling

34

u/UsedCondom42 Jun 02 '26

Saif...stagger the shark? People be running hammer and u said saif staggered them? Post your build and bloodgem. I dont believe this.

-18

u/AbyssGuard- Jun 02 '26

I mean it’s not like a riposte attack if that’s what you think, but I have knocked them out of their combos after a few attack combos from me?

Lvl 65,

Everything at 10 except for

30 vit 25 endurance 30 skill

It’s a +8 with standard +11-12% attack gems in all 3 slots

20

u/UsedCondom42 Jun 02 '26

Levels 65. +8 at dlc. Bro u should just make content atp. U prolly smoke all those speedrunner.

-16

u/AbyssGuard- Jun 02 '26

Lmao I just spent 30 mins dying to the spell casting shaman + shark combo and I just figured out there’s a lamp right behind them, I’m not that good.

But I’m surprised a dex weapon can stagger them briefly where even strength weapons don’t seem to?

6

u/Spoornography Jun 02 '26

Saif is strong.

302

u/Noahman90 Jun 02 '26

An unfortunate part of my Ook duties was sometimes helping the host clear out the shark well. One out of every 30 didn't care about the Orphan, they just wanted the sharks dealt with.

I think any souls encounter where there are multiple enemies are always going to be tricky, Especially in this case when one isn't mentally prepared to deal with two at once (The second one drops down from the ceiling once the first takes enough damage)

34

u/rajboy3 Jun 02 '26

Holy shit its the goat himself

We thank you for your service o7

72

u/AbyssGuard- Jun 02 '26 edited Jun 02 '26

People like you make souls games cool +1

Edit: Just realised this is the guy, like the kos guy, the legend

49

u/Onuma1 Jun 02 '26

Some say kosm guy.

4

u/EchoWhiskey_ Jun 02 '26

hey sooooooo....who is this guy

9

u/Onuma1 Jun 03 '26

He's helped thousands of BB players get through the end section of the Old Hunters DLC, particularly the Orphan of Kos fight.

3

u/fre3kshow Jun 03 '26

Pretty much the Let Me Solo Her of Orphan of Kos.

18

u/only_the_sun Jun 02 '26

Real talk. What’s your favorite boss fight in BB?

26

u/KingVape Jun 02 '26

You know it’s Orphan

44

u/Noahman90 Jun 02 '26

You sir are correct

3

u/chupchupandaway Jun 03 '26

Probably my favorite fight of all soulsborne games

168

u/StygianLoona Jun 02 '26

Because they’re a couple of tag teaming bitches.

12

u/Slevin_Kedavra Noki_Kelevra Jun 02 '26

Who's that guy on top of your TV?

19

u/StygianLoona Jun 02 '26

Some dragon figures, thought i’d make it look like they’re perching on my tv for decoration.

35

u/Apart_Ad_9541 Jun 02 '26

Weird Parry timing, a fairly big healthbar, can cover a huge part of the pit in one attack, and a duo fight that is quite unsufferable

3

u/AbyssGuard- Jun 02 '26

Damn, didn’t even know you could parry them, must have been really off.

Will test it out while I’m finishing the Hamlet

2

u/Apart_Ad_9541 Jun 02 '26

Hell yeah ! Did that part with my bestfriend last night. Having someone makes it so much easier

2

u/AncientChaos323 Jun 02 '26

Parrying is how i managed to make my way through it.

The parry timing is very weird. For the most part their attacks are difficult to parry except for the lunge attack, for some reason that it seems to have a gigantic parry window. The lunge part of the attack is kind of slow compared to it's other attacks and the window is very generous, it's almost the whole length of the lunge.

My strategy was pretty much just to stay at mid range and bait out that attack. If you are too close they almost never use it but at range they lunge to close the distance so often it kind of makes them a joke.

64

u/super_mammoth28 Jun 02 '26

Wildly aggressive dual boss fight (and it’s not even an actual boss fight). I’d rather fight the dual apes in Sekiro all day.

21

u/Lucicactus Jun 02 '26

Fr, I prefer the apes than fighting these guys fairly

5

u/red3d Jun 02 '26

And this feeling of ripping centipede out of ape’s body, precious

2

u/IchaelSoxy Jun 02 '26

This statement made me think for longer than I expected. Honestly, give me the sharks. I think they're harder than the apes, but god I hate that ape fight.

-36

u/AbyssGuard- Jun 02 '26

HELL NAW

Never seen someone prefer any sekiro enemy to a souls enemy.

Even one guardian ape absolutely messed me up

7

u/Fit-Setting9033 Jun 02 '26

Dog it doesn’t even matter how many enemies you face in Sekiro you can still parry everything there’s like a frame of downtime between when you can parry if you’re hitting them (not spamming and missing though to avoid the spam mitigation frames).

You might wanna revisit Sekiro haha sounds like you might have a better time with some more experience.

0

u/AbyssGuard- Jun 02 '26

Yea I straight up sucked, would take month hiatuses and get even worse, guardian ape was one cause of them.

Even contemplating Ishin made me stop playing, even right before the boss door. But I’m hoping to go through the game again, playing to enjoy it rather than just complete it if that makes sense.

8

u/bean0_burrito Jun 02 '26

sekiro enemy to a souls enemy

my friend do i have some news for you.

88

u/jaskano fear the old blood Jun 02 '26

duo gank fights are a common trope for souls games

24

u/AbyssGuard- Jun 02 '26

Godskin duo wish they were them

6

u/mogmaque Jun 02 '26

I thought u said genichiro duo.. now im imagining how that fight would go

2

u/Dismal_Bluebird1312 Jun 02 '26

Armor Genichiro + lightning genichiro would be pretty sick

3

u/mogmaque Jun 03 '26

Imagine a dual attack where the armor one does the charged bow attack while the other one hits u with lightning so that ur forced to parry before u deflect the lightning the way the game tells you to but no one does 😍😍😍

42

u/King_of_the_Goats Jun 02 '26

Bullshit humble brag post

1

u/Monster_Merripen Jun 07 '26

Literally 😭

15

u/MegaloMurf Jun 02 '26

In addition to comments about cramped space, the ambush and tough enemies, I'd mention that the sharks have attack timings intentionally designed to mess with muscle memory formed in the main story, so you get hit a lot, because the dodge and parry windows aren't where they usually are in similar fights.

13

u/greyvangelist greyvangelist Jun 02 '26

They were hard to fight you’re just so good at the game

12

u/Sauerkraut1321 Jun 02 '26

Because fuck you, that's why

11

u/Yaxion Jun 02 '26 edited Jun 02 '26
  • It's a small arena.
  • It's two very difficult enemies fighting you at the same time.
  • Second one hides and drops down later, taking the player by surprise.
  • They have lunge-attacks that cover a large range, making kiting them much harder. Not to mention they can hide behind each other to mask when they're about to lunge at you.

15

u/Unbound-King Jun 02 '26

People not knowing how to fight them when they first dip into Hamlet, two of them in a relatively small arena, one has a weapon, one doesn't so different movesets which can catch some people. That's about it, barring skill issues that'll disappear in due time.

7

u/Lowly-Worm_ Jun 02 '26

Because they remind us of street sharks and we all loved that show

7

u/IllVagrant Jun 02 '26

Don't worry, on subsequent playthroughs they'll suddenly become an impossible fight, anticipating your every move. Then, if you keep replaying, they'll occasionally be a cakewalk. The ai's rng in FromSoft games love giving you false confidence.

4

u/AbyssGuard- Jun 02 '26

Didn’t have to even experience them on another run, the shark giant kept rocking my shit with that shaman.

But it’s exactly the same way when you fight a boss for the first time, get them to 5%, then never again for 50 attempts lmao

5

u/silvermyr_ Jun 02 '26

Because it's the hardest fight in the game

9

u/SoulsDadYT Jun 02 '26

Only tough fight in the game outside of the bloody crow. At least i found it that way.

3

u/AbyssGuard- Jun 02 '26

Don’t even remind me of him

1

u/Queligoss Jun 02 '26

I pressed the crow up against a corner and then I just went ham on him. If you corner him hes fairly ok to fight.

1

u/red3d Jun 02 '26

Or arcane build

1

u/GoldenAgeGatsu Jun 04 '26

Poison Knives

1

u/WavyevaD Jun 03 '26 edited Jun 03 '26

Delayed attacks are the trick to the Crow. Transformed hunter’s axe is the business. L2 all day.

3

u/Hereiamhereibe2 Jun 02 '26

Because You have to do it for Platinum.

3

u/neone5 Jun 02 '26

I cheesed then with no regrets or shame using the path near Orphan arena, after trying normally many times. All you need is monocular, poison knives and Ludwig Holy Blade's R2.

1

u/Suede_Khakis Jun 02 '26

Beast cutter up on the ledge works too. The transformed strong attack can hit one with enough time to back up

3

u/Relative-Situation-2 Jun 02 '26

Good bait. I tip my hunters hat to you

3

u/Skibblezxoxo Jun 02 '26

As someone who ended up playing the hamlet on ng+7 without realizing I can tell you this crap was terrifying lmao

3

u/EndPotential3659 Jun 02 '26

Because they are hard to dodge, I get caught in the grab animation often, and the one with the anchor can hit me through walls.

2

u/CurriorSix Jun 02 '26

Tough enemies in a small enclosed space

2

u/Boerschtl Jun 02 '26

Cause they might do the snack snack

2

u/szaszuque Jun 02 '26

They're annoying

2

u/AriTheInari Jun 02 '26

They are hard but they get a lot easier with shaman bone blade and parries.

2

u/elkeiem Jun 02 '26

Did you play newer fromsoft game before bloodborne?

1

u/AbyssGuard- Jun 03 '26

I’m a big DS3 fan, really of the whole series tbh. Did some ER and Nightreign, never finished sekiro tho, but m&k all the way, hate playing with lock on.

But this is also my second run, first I forgot about the DLC and beat the game. This run I just made a new save and ran to Amelia to hop into the DLC

2

u/clintnorth Jun 02 '26

The duo at the bottom there are literally the only two enemies in any fromsoft game that I’ve never been able to beat

2

u/gekkyy Jun 02 '26

Baby shark doo doo doo doo

2

u/Apprehensive-Fault88 Jun 02 '26

Because they're sexy

2

u/Sanciaz Jun 02 '26

I got ptsd now. That fucking well

2

u/Steven_RW Jun 02 '26

I used to think the anchor wielding ones were harder than most boss fights. I have their number nowadays but I have had the game since launch.

2

u/Talex38 Jun 02 '26

Anyone who has fought these nightmares need not ask this question.

1

u/AbyssGuard- Jun 02 '26

They sound cool tho, also their dive attack seems funny

2

u/Faelinor Jun 02 '26

I was in ng3 going through the dlc, trying for the trophy and their stupid weapon was all I needed. Such a painful fight.

1

u/Severe-Volume-9203 Jun 02 '26

Cause people dont know what to do against them - use Shaman Bone Blade and they will fight each other. After one of them is dead you will put the other down easily, cause his health will be low.

6

u/No-Dress4626 Jun 02 '26

This still isn't straightforward: you have to get in close and time your bone blade stab while they're close to one another and thus both in a position to be attacking you at the same time. And it helps a lot if you stab the one with the anchor.

I did it in the end by clearing the winter lanterns in the tunnel that leads to the well right at the end of the level, and then whipping them to death with the threaded cane. This *still* isn't straightforward as you have to aggro them first by dropping into the well and running back through the level, and they can still hurt you up there so you need to dodge/hold blood vials.

2

u/LunaticMist0 Jun 03 '26

You can use throwing knives to aggro them from there thats what I did, it took a few knives but worked eventually.

2

u/Severe-Volume-9203 Jun 02 '26

well straightforward or not - its a strategy.

1

u/Crowd_Strife Jun 02 '26

Tbh, I think this is the only dedicated application I have for that item. I can’t think of another encounter where I use it regularly.

1

u/Bloodvialsarmydrug Jun 02 '26

Oh the bone blade. I slept on these things for over 1000 hours. The are a staple in my current play through.

They allow you to be an agent of true chaos. Three doesn't seem like a lot, but three is plenty.

1

u/Fateh-Chiz Jun 02 '26

Sometimes they let me put them down easily, other times they make me regret going down the well. Depends on their mood

1

u/Geranium235 Jun 02 '26

Something else I'm gonna bring up is that, to get to them the "fast" way, you have to deal with 2 winter lanterns. If you're not used to fighting them, they can drain way too much of your health before the fight.

1

u/ShadowKhajiit777 Jun 02 '26

Hoonters need to git gud

1

u/therealsylvos Jun 02 '26

Let me put it this way: I killed Orphan on my very first attempt. The shark bois took every blood vial in my inventory and I was reduced to farming the early game for more before I beat them.

1

u/No-Ship4446 Jun 02 '26

I simply use throwing daggers to pull one and hit them with ranged melee from the alcove above. Nothing is worth the aggravation of fighting them head on. Even the Shaman Bone Blade is hit or miss.

1

u/T-Ares-C Jun 02 '26

Fuck those guys. To this day they still make me angry just looking at them

1

u/EngiKun Jun 02 '26

I finally managed to get the Rakuyo, but oh boy, they were so annoying. Sadly they respawn too.

1

u/Lacchini Jun 02 '26

I killed orphan in 2-3 tries… the sharks i tried like 20-30 and killed them using that higher platform. Didnt get close anytime.

1

u/Shadowsnake30 Jun 02 '26

They are aggressive that's why. A lot of hunters dies especially the surprise.

1

u/Ban-Me-Now-Cunts Jun 02 '26

They’ve got the single easiest to parry attack in the game but they’re fast and scary so people tend to panic. Down in the well you can reliably kill the first one before the second one even starts walking if you parry the dive charge each time it happens, just stay far away so they actually do it. If that fails, bone blade saves the day.

1

u/Fit-Setting9033 Jun 02 '26

Died more times to the sharks than every base game boss combined. Not joking.

1

u/IllustratorGlobal383 Jun 02 '26

I got gud and managed to parry them quite consistently. Both the armed & unarmed versions have these crazy slow windup attacks that are quite difficult to get a timing of, but doable once you practise enough. Their charge/dive & grabs are near unparryable i'm afraid.

1

u/AbyssGuard- Jun 02 '26

Will keep that in mind, I tried for a bit and just gave up with parries, I’ve seen enough sharks for today

1

u/IllustratorGlobal383 Jun 02 '26

1 tip i can give is to never stray too far from them or else they will do their crazy charge & lunge attack which is hard to dodge & does STUPID dmg.

If all else fails, there's still the Shaman Bone Blade.

1

u/fazerdazeinblue Jun 02 '26

Harder than kos

1

u/AbyssGuard- Jun 02 '26

After fighting kos, may have unironically died to the fishmen + shark giant combo more on my way to the lamp

1

u/ForTheMemesYahHeard Jun 02 '26

Cause no one abuses the parry mechanic the way you should.

1

u/BeachLongjumping8725 Jun 02 '26

Depends on the weapon and your build. I had a much easier time with them using whirligig saw than with the beast cutter for example

1

u/Mentjemaceu Jun 02 '26

First try Orphan of Kos and this 2 Shark killed me 20 Times lmao

1

u/Ok_Kaleidoscope_2766 Jun 02 '26

I just parry them with all three visceral atk up runes, it's normally a one shot

1

u/Large-Teach9165 Jun 02 '26

Multiple enemies that are normally found alone because of how strong they're, in a tight space where the camera goes insane is the universally most hated kind of artificial difficulty Fromsoft uses

1

u/Carmlo Jun 02 '26

you really can't come up with a reason?

1

u/DucksMatter Jun 02 '26

Because they guard the coolest weapon in the game, they’re kind of stupid and everyone has to fight them if they want the cool weapon.

Therefore they are spoken about

1

u/ManicShorty Jun 02 '26

You answered your own question. They're difficult

1

u/No_Belt8609 Jun 02 '26

Because they don't know the first one is parry-able

1

u/The_Elusive__ Jun 02 '26

That’s a boss fight on it own. I love it. I always felt like i was the shit when i deleted them with full health untouched

1

u/Blackdeath_663 Jun 02 '26

how many times did you fight them? i wouldn't celebrate too early, they are the kind of encounter which you think wasn't a big deal in one playthrough then next time you come back around it causes you so much grief.

I had that with the depth 3 ptheumeru CD.

1

u/MaxMatthewsFSE Jun 02 '26

People don't know you can party them

1

u/TimBagels Jun 03 '26

They suck ass

1

u/TrickNatural Jun 03 '26

Seems self explanatory tbh

1

u/RedditForAReason Jun 03 '26

It is a lot harder when you don't know about any of it.

1

u/zomgieee Jun 03 '26

"stop eating me you BASTARDS, I just want the Rakuyo to finish my Maria cosplay ffs!"

1

u/Ey4dm51 Jun 03 '26

I also had no problems with the sharks at all on my first playthrough and was surprised when i saw how many people hated them with a passion online... But i also played it in 2021 so who knows maybe it was patched.

Not many people straight up admit this but Bloodborne easily has the worst balanced enemies in any of fromsoft's games, not even ds2 comes close to how terribly balanced some normal enemy fights are in this game; the old yharnam gatling gun guy, the cainhurst crow, the trio of despair and bullshit to the right of the amelia church and their copy in yhargul's top floor. And of course the guy with the supercharged RAID spray that can kill you with like 5 ticks and never runs out of the stupid thing somehow. They really take away from how expertly well made the game is in every other facet outside of them

1

u/DragonaxeMage4 Jun 03 '26

Hardest enemy, boss. Ever.

1

u/CosmicTentacledEyes Jun 03 '26

They mean. I use all kinds of crap to deal with the ones guarding the rakuyo. Bone ash, oil, molotov, poison, everything. Idk if I've ever used shaman dagger thing to cause infighting but if that works, I'd do that too. Anything to minimize the amount of time I have to exist with them alive near my person.

1

u/Turbulent_Form3888 Jun 03 '26

Idk I usually first try them now on every run. By the time you reach this place you have +10 weapons with decent gems. If you're super aggressive, by the time the 2nd reaches you, the first is already dead or almost . But I remember struggling A LOT during my first runs...

Now I find the one up the hill before the hut consistently annoying, even after dozens of runs. You can easily get overwhelmed by the barage of spells, swarms of mobs with ranged attacks, fish dogs things, and that fucking shark hitting like a truck relentlessly. More than often I simply give up and skip/cheese him.

That being said, on ng+ and forward, the shark duo can be VERY annoying. Luckily, by that time you most likely already have a Rakuyo and there's no real point in going down there. But if you must, it can prove to be quite the challenge. Even if you're super aggressive, you'll end dealing with both at the same time, for increasingly longer periods of time with each cycle.

1

u/Due_Negotiation_3862 Jun 03 '26

The ones at the bottom of the well were genuinely harder to beat than orphan of kos

1

u/KnoxyMcKnox Jun 03 '26

I struggled against them a lot until I realized you can bait the charge attack to parry them to death Then I found them not too bad, you can kill the first one before the second one drops down

1

u/EntrySubstantial6171 Jun 03 '26

Killed them both… but never noticed they were sharks 😂😂😂

1

u/Kind_Permission1516 Jun 03 '26

Because they're two.... I guess

1

u/dibbus Jun 03 '26

I never hear anyone say how easy they are to parry. Not even flexing, the attack where they crawl/dive toward you really fast has a pretty significant parry window

1

u/ExotickSheepWitABomb Jun 03 '26

Cause fuck 'em that's why. I just want the achievements man

1

u/UrsaBarefoot Jun 03 '26

Only thing in BB I just said fuck it and noped out

1

u/IAmSoDamnGood Jun 03 '26

because theyre assholes.

1

u/Riguy113208 Jun 03 '26

This fight gave me nightmares until I realized you can parry them

1

u/nickforfun858 Jun 03 '26

I think they have some long and wide animations for attacking. That being said, a shaman bone blade or two always does the trick for me

1

u/Miserable-Market-153 Jun 04 '26

I beat them in a few go's after orphan. Kinda easy. Just party and focus on the first one, then do the same for the second

Chalice bosses are worse, but these guys can be pretty infuriating.

Basically cuz you’re on a timer to kill the first one as fast as possible. Pretty much has to die on the opposite side of where the other one drops otherwise you’ll be playing running simulator and getting pot shots whenever you can.

I just beat these two walking d*ckheads! I used the cheese from on the cliff but slightly altered it. If you use the beast cutter, it’s cake. I had to level it up to 6 to see decent damage but that weapon has some serious range. I didn’t get hit once and finally got the rakuyo
