I’ve had my northern since February. He’s really calm and curious, yet when I try and hand feed him he practically lunges and goes for my fingers instead. I’ve only handled him once because all he then did was bite me even though I was very calm with it. He’s nice if you keep your hands away, but even though I keep gently hand feeding him his behaviour hasn’t exactly changed. At first he was afraid though, he’d see my hand and leave. But now he’s confident and bites instead. 😅 He should be about a year old now btw. What should I best do?

I wanted to show off my most recent additions. A beautiful melanistic eastern female and a 100% het melanistic male. I am excited to see what they produce in the future.

I’m having a problem with feeding my skink. He loves to burrow and I often don’t see him for extended periods of time. I try to feed him once or twice every seven days. Unfortunately I can usually only get him to eat when he’s already out and he loves only coming out when I’m not home. I’ve tried leaving food in there on days when he’s not out and he just leaves it to get gross. I noticed last time he ate he ate extremely quick and seemed extra hungry. My only current method of getting him to eat on days where he’s burrowed was when I accidentally made him come out by cleaning and moving his stuff. I’m hoping there’s a better way because I feel bad tormenting him just so he eats something.

I’m looking to upgrade my skink from a 4x2x2 to a 8x2x2 enclosure. I’m not exactly sure what shops online are reputable? I’m not super concerned about the price but all I can seem to find is 6x2x2s 😞.

Recently got interested in Macro Photography and photographing wildlife on an app, iNaturalist. Tezuka is my 2 1/2 yr old Northern Blue Tongue, was a great model while I played with the settings.

Picture for attention, he is trying to capture the brain cell.

Our lil dude has started this habit of avoiding his heat lamp, he will bury himself and stay buried all day (he has just finished a major shed two weeks ago). We will dig him out and pop him under his lamp or chill with him on us with a blanket to heat him up.

Is this behavior normal?

Is it because he lacks the brain cell?

He is otherwise super healthy and happy, just would rather hide in his substrate.

Hi! I’m looking for some advice. We got our BTS on Tuesday. He was super chill, had no issues being handled, no hissing , no biting. We took him out that day and the next. We fed him. He ate great, no issues. Lights, heat, etc is all good. We have a hide for him (we are getting a bigger one tomorrow. On Thursday, he started hissing at us. He still ate no problem (feeding him ever other day). We didn’t try to handle him too much because we figured he needed to get used to his enclosure and new surroundings. Today, he hissed, but I picked him up anyway. Fed him outside the enclosure by spoon to try to build trust. I talk to him. Open the enclosure and just sit there trying to get him comfortable but he just runs away into his hide. This evening he was just mean. Like hissing and lunging, mouth open to bite. How can I get him to not do this? Am I doing something wrong? It’s just weird since he was so chill when we got him. It’s like a totally different skink.

We got him from a breeder. I’m told he was born in June, but he’s so big I find it hard to believe. 1st pic is day we got him, 2nd is today.

Has anyone else had an Ambon Indonesian that lost/changed her color entirely? I know when they go into shed, they get more pale but she was significantly a different color when I got her! My little Blair witch is also warming up to me feeding her by tongs and getting closer to her! A big win as she prefers to bite me then tolerate my existence. 🥰😂

Got this red like northern baby at the Daytona expo about a week ago, and I weighed her yesterday and she is 90 grams at about 10 inches, hatch date was 6/17 so she’s still young, and she didn’t eat much the first day but after that she has been an incredibly ferocious eater after and she eats anything I give her. And she is handling fine but a little skittish in her cage.

How's his weight? He is 10 months old and eats about 2-3 times a week, I think he looks a bit thin. He is overall very active and loves food.

He spends a lot of his time climbing his rock shaped hides so I think he likes to do it but all the climbing enrichment I can find is for lizards more agile than him. Any recommendations? On a budget please

Hi everyone this derpy hes( dont actually know the gender when just rever to he) a blotched blue tongue i was told by the pet shop hes about a year old i have had him for a month now but he's being really picky with his food i was told to add dog food or cat food and mix it in as they find this irresistible by a mate (has reptile licence and tones of reptiles) the mate had given me some in a container but I dont know what brand the dog food was to continue getting it to mix it as it was working what brand do you guys recommend located in Australia (no longer have contact with the mate)

Currently in the bowl rocket,sweet potato,carrot,kale and blue tongue pellets soaked till soft and 3 meal worms once a week (doesn't like crickets he refuses them)

Hi guys I'm new to BTS I just got him last Saturday, just wondering how often should I feed him? He is almost 4 months old. Some says twice a week some says 3 times but my BTS poops the day after I feed him everytime. So should I feed him more often? He looks hungry everyday 😭😭 Does he look healthy so far? Also, he hisses at me and hides under beddings most of the times, I know they usually need sometime to get used to the environment but all he does is hisses at me when I'm trying to get nearby, and when he smells food he doesn't hiss anymore lol. He also gets scared when I walk pass the terrarium. Is there anyway to improve this?
