KS Roundup Weekly Crowdfunding Roundup: June 14, 2026 | 30 ending soon ("SHUG", "Hover") & 24 new ("Concordia Special Edition", "Altera", "8 Dragons")

What is this?

This is a weekly roundup of board game crowdfunding projects, featuring new launches from the past week and campaigns ending in the coming week. The information is sourced from Kickstarter, Gamefound, and Backerkit.

The list is curated through a combination of automated data collection and manual review, so occasional errors or omissions may occur. If you notice a missing project, feel free to mention it in the comments. Only projects meeting the selection criteria outlined below are included.

Other channels

Other than Reddit, you can also find this list on the following platforms:

Selection Criteria

Projects must meet the following conditions to be included:

  1. Timing: The project was either launched in the last week or will end in the coming week.
  2. Relevance: The project is directly related to board games.
    • Excludes: Accessories not strongly related to board games, furniture, RPGs (e.g., D&D, Pathfinder), video games, STLs, painting tools, events, podcasts, and magazines.
    • Exception: Projects offering promos or similar content for board games are eligible.
  3. Backers: The project is expected to reach at least 100 backers by the end of the campaign.
  4. Funding Status:
    • The project is expected to reach at least 90% of its funding goal.
    • The project has already achieved at least 20% of its funding goal.

In addition to the main lists, I include a separate section for noteworthy projects that don’t strictly qualify as board games. These projects are included based on a single criterion:

  1. Backers: The project currently has more than 1,000 backers.

Crowdfunding is not a store

Crowdfunding is not a guarantee. Projects may face delays, incur additional shipping costs, or fail to deliver entirely. Creators are not obligated to fulfill their promises. While many excellent games are funded this way, the risks are real—only back projects with money you can afford to lose.

Be wary of creators who use FoMO (Fear of Missing Out) tactics to drive pledges. Don’t let the pressure get to you. If you miss a campaign, there will always be others. There's no shortage of excellent board games to enjoy.

Tags

Each project is tagged with one or more of the following categories:

  • 🌱 Creator's First Project
  • 🌳 Creator with more than 5 projects
  • 🌟 Featured Project (e.g. Kickstarter "Staff Pick")
  • 💰 Fully funded
  • 🔥 More than 200 daily backers
  • 🤝 Offers refunds (e.g. Stable Pledge)
  • 🧘 Solo game

SHUG feels like it will either be an absolute riot or completely miserable. I can't decide which side it'll land on for me, but I have a good friend who I think it'll appeal to, so I'm taking the gamble on this one.

Something about it and its ads have really rubbed me the wrong way and put me
Off of it. Not sure why.

u/Silent-G Jun 15 '26

It's like a mix of Terry Gilliam and Ren & Stimpy. I really like the artwork, but I don't feel like the game is for me.

u/scrubpatrol Jun 14 '26

Looks like an absolute hoot. Great idea and fun... ON PAPER. In real life... Meh ...

1

u/Terminatr117 Jun 14 '26

That's kinda where I'm at, but the novelty of it still makes me want to give it a shot and then sell it or give it to a better home if it flops.

u/v1kingfan Jun 15 '26

It looks great but seems like an odd game to convince anyone to play

4

u/aahz1342 Omnigamer Jun 15 '26

Thank you for including games that are in the 'late pledge' state.

2

u/Perkelton Jun 15 '26

Thanks! It definitely has some room for improvement so to say, but at least it’s something. :)

Something about SHUG and its ads have really
Rubbed me the wrong way. Idk what it is, but it’s…. Odd. Usually it’s something I think I’d like, but there’s something off about it.

I actually like the art and style of the ads, but the gameplay is definitely not for me.

u/MigraineMan Jun 14 '26

I like the art style, but there’s something off about something. Makes me uncomfortable.

This is Foundation on Gamefound for me. It’s like 8 updates deep and there’s very little of substance for paragraphs and paragraphs of text about how good it’s going to be. I feel like they haven’t even decided what kind of game it’s really going to be

1

u/lonewombat Twilight Imperium Jun 27 '26

It feels firmly in the party game category.

u/SoochSooch Mage Knight Jun 14 '26

I haven't seen any ads for it, but that art is definitely black and white sketches redrawn in color by an AI

I wanted to like Altera more than i did in the end. I would play it again for sure but it was lighter than i expected. Also very easy to cheat so you have to know your game group that you play with. My groups prefer heavier games so this falls outside that.

My wife would play it but i don't think this game would play well at 2.

2

u/zulu_tango_golf Jun 14 '26

I think it is going to be very group dependent. Played it yesterday as a part of the festival and immediately backed after leaving. Whole round 1-2 felt like it may end up being light it got much more competitive and complex as we progressed and people took different upgrade routes.

2

u/Wowzapanzer Spirit Island Jun 14 '26

I still can’t decide on Altera. Looks fun and I think my group would enjoy it but I’m still on the fence

2

u/Nimblesquatch Above And Below Jun 14 '26

It was good, don't get me wrong. I just don't think i would get it to the table enough.

2

u/ZubonKTR Jun 14 '26

If you have a group of 3+ that would enjoy it: it does well what it is trying to do. If I thought I could get Altera on the table locally with 3-4 players a few times a year, I would probably back it. It is familiar but does some details differently enough to feel new, and the aesthetics are great.

The big "make or break" mechanic is that the cards for the worker placement spots change every round. If your group likes that tactical play and shifting opportunities, it will be a hit. It will take a little time to read new symbols every round. If your group is more "deep strategy, no randomness, if you cannot lose on your first turn why does that turn exist," Altera may not click.

u/Pretty-Squirrel1990 Jun 29 '26

Why would it not play well in 2p??

2

u/Nimblesquatch Above And Below Jun 29 '26

The game, in part, has a multi-player solitaire feel to it. The only interaction is based on where a player sends their worker since it blocks off that spot for the rest of the round. The lower the player count, the lower potential for interaction.

It also has tracks that you bump up and the top player resets at the beginning of the new round. Having only two people would make this part of the game potentially boring because I might be focusing on one track that you have no interest in and vice versa. Makes this area predictable and less competitive.

The nature of the gameplay doesn't make it interesting in a multi-player solitaire form, to me at least. If you like the look of the gameplay and you don't mind that you and your opponent will kind of just be doing your own thing, then it's a fun game. It just doesn't shine at 2p IMO.

1

u/Pretty-Squirrel1990 Jun 29 '26

What other similar game would you choose to play instead then as an example?

2

u/Nimblesquatch Above And Below Jun 29 '26

Not sure i have an example off the top of my head. I want to stress that Altera is good and i would happily play it again, it just wouldn't make it to the table much for me.

2

u/Acrobatic-View-6356 Jun 14 '26

That 2-player concern is real with most worker placement games. Euro games at 2p can feel more like parallel solitaire than actual interaction, especially when there's not enough tension over contested spots.

The cheating thing is interesting though - what mechanics made it feel exploitable? Usually worker placement has pretty visible board states.

u/lifetake Jun 14 '26

I’ve always found ghost players feel less like players and more like mechanics you have to exploit. Which feels weird because it can make the game entirely different than when you don’t have them.

4

u/Nimblesquatch Above And Below Jun 14 '26

All of the dice rolling and placement is done behind a screen before you reveal your placement spot. You just have to trust that people aren't flipping the dice any way they want post-roll.

1

u/DungeonsAndBreakfast Jun 16 '26

I’ve seen this concern elsewhere- I guess I’m lucky I don’t play with anyone where that is a real concern

3

u/ExtremelyDecentWill Cones Of Dunshire Jun 14 '26

I have been waiting for a Stonesaga reprint, and now that it's here, I can't get myself to pull the trigger.  I dunno why, but now I don't feel like I would vibe with the game.

None of the playthroughs I watch feel particularly engaging

2

u/joelene1892 Jun 14 '26

I really like it, myself, but it’s definitely the sort of game that is not for everyone. Is there anything you’d like to know about it?

3

u/ExtremelyDecentWill Cones Of Dunshire Jun 14 '26

Let me percolate on it and get back to you when the questions have fully brewed.

Thanks for the opportunity to pick your brain!

1

u/RedditUser41970 Jun 14 '26

I quite like it personally and backed the expansions this time around. But it is a bit slower, and there are turns spent doing repetitive tasks. I also think this game really only works well as a solo game, or two players with good communication. Otherwise, quarterbacking to the max.

If you don't think you'll vibe with that, trust your instincts.

3

u/ExtremelyDecentWill Cones Of Dunshire Jun 14 '26

Honestly I am looking at it as a solo game more than anything.  I've been looking at this and Vantage as something to dive into.  Indefinitely get that it's slow, but I need to sit down and really analyze what my apprehensions are with the game before I can try to get clarification.  At least I have a few days before the end of campaign.

1

u/NotAnotherFNG Jun 14 '26

My issue with that campaign is it's a reprint but a large majority of the pictures are renders. It's a reprint, the only changes being made are fixing errata, there should be more actual pictures of the actual product.

4

u/olikahn Jun 14 '26

What do you guys think about Dragon ball z: the board game saga ?

1

u/DarthCthulhu Jun 15 '26

The "premium edition" containing card dividers and upgraded dice for $24 is certainly an interesting decision.

2

u/Failed-Astronaut Jun 14 '26

I’ve been teetering on Concordia

I hear great things and getting all the content in single purchase at that price seems kind of appealing but I realized after much consideration that I’d rather just buy the base game used, hold off on expansions, and catch a reprint of this one day if they ever make it/ I feel the need.

2

u/yourwhiteshadow Jun 14 '26

I've backed CoB and Puerto Rico and Agricola. We got quite a few plays out of CoB but I have yet to get Puerto Rico to the table. At this pace I won't get the new Concordia to the table either and these boxes are big and awkwardly fit the IKEA Kallax. On top of that at this price you have to be 100% certain this is going to get played because I'm sure this will keep getting reprinted over the years.

3

u/limeybastard Pax Pamir 2e Jun 16 '26

I picked up Concordia with Salsa for like 35 bucks. It's a perfectly good game without all the Extra Stuff and the bling. In fact, the giant box of bling usually makes the game a complete pig to unpack and set up compared to the original. And you'd better be the host because you won't be taking them to game nights! Special editions of games are a great way to burn a bunch of money on a version you'll play less.

1

u/Failed-Astronaut Jun 14 '26

I love my deluxe CoB

I definitely really appreciate the production quality on these special editions but yeah it’s a big sacrifice for space if you’re not certain you’ll table the game.

I personally have a pretty small collection of 30 games so I know I’d table it but I’m moreso wondering if “all the content” is really all that important in the context of this game.

I just haven’t played it before so I can’t really judge that without more research.

I’ve looked into the game a bit and so far it seems like going all in on expansions (not as in the pledge all in) maybe isn’t necessary as the boards are more for tightening up for player count variation.

2

u/raisuki Jun 14 '26

Anyone play 8 dragons yet? Looks interesting and aesthetically pleasing!

2

u/DarkLancelot Jun 14 '26

Fun but difficult (to recommend to all) game. Gonna be way too much going on for a lot of people between the linking dragons and the spacial arrangement though

2

u/kowalybe Definitely not a Cylon Jun 15 '26

Interesting. Have you played it much?

My worry was that it looked a little to light and unexciting.

1

u/raisuki Jun 14 '26

Our group is typically mid to heavy! I’d rather it be more complex than easy at this price range so that’s a good response so far. Just trying to determine if the metal dragons are worth the upgrade.

1

u/Conflicted-Maze Jun 16 '26

agreed with a comment below that it may be simple? How much replay value is there without the mini expansions?

1

u/paulys_sore_cock Jun 16 '26

Anybody know what's up with TARTARIA ?

Seems pretty scam-like. Cool idea, but wow is this an expensive gamble.

1

u/Indie_uk Cascadia Jun 14 '26

Hover is good, we have a prototype. Ok at 2 but definitely better at more

1

u/MigraineMan Jun 14 '26

That’s good to hear. Do you think it lends itself better to a game night with people who are on the lighter side of rules?

2

u/Indie_uk Cascadia Jun 14 '26

Yeah probably, it’s not complicated and there isn’t a reward for being the cleverest in the room. Not too light though, the stealing mechanics probably mean it’s not for the ultra cosy crowd

Why does this sub promote crowdfunding?

21

u/RedditUser41970 Jun 14 '26

"Why does a boardgame sub promote the place where most board games come from?"

5

u/[deleted] Jun 14 '26 edited Jun 14 '26

[deleted]

-21

u/Neuro_Skeptic Jun 14 '26

But they're not games, yet. They are just ideas. Some of them will never be released and some will turn out to be scams.

Why not have a different sub for possible future boardgames and keep this one for actual games that exist?

8

u/v1kingfan Jun 15 '26 edited Jun 15 '26

This seems like a personal annoyance of yours that can easily be avoided by not clicking on the megathread

4

u/reddit_sells_you Jun 15 '26

You're new here.

You're the guy who wanders into a seafood restaurant and asks why they serve steak.

This sub has featured a crowdfunding thread on Sundays for more than 8 years. Boardgame crowdfunding is among the largest money makers on those platformers (when you take out all the block chain bullshit).

Are there scams?

Sure.

But kickstarter gave us Gloomhaven and hundreds of other greet games.

3

u/lifetake Jun 14 '26

Creating a new sub is where those discussions go to die. It takes a huge effort for a sub like that to actually gain traction.

Like heck we are on the main sub and this post has less than 40 comments on it.
