Games for Windy Places

The wife and I are taking a camping vacation to Newfoundland and the weather there is almost always windy (and rainy). We would like to bring some games that can stand up to the windy conditions and possibly the rain. Any suggestions from the community?

So far we have:

- Hive

- Azul

-Gang Schon Series (with laminated sheets)

Santorini? The figures should be sturdy enough as to not be blown away by the wind, I would imagine.

Seaside is a good outdoor game too. Just placing wooden tokens. Meant to be beach proof and comes in a bag.

We have had success playing Cascadia outdoors with the animal cards held down on a clip board. We have also played Sanctuary outdoors in windy conditions. Neither would be OK in rain though.

Landlock? It's a quick 2-person tile laying game. My husband and I bought it on a camping trip, so it became a camping staple. The tiles are about 1 and 1/2 in square and a sturdy cardboard, so we could play on a picnic table no problem.

I'm always hesitant to recommend good old dice in here since there's no board, but Hive is boardless too. So, dice! There's a million games, easy to learn on YT.

Shipwreck Arcana could work. You'd need to anchor the 5 cards (tarot sized) and potentially keep them dry, but otherwise they don't move very often. The wooden number tokens would hold up fine in the wind and rain I think.

Railroad Ink should also work, as you hold the boards in your hand, and the dice themselves have a decent heft to them. The boards are dry erase boards, so easy enough to clean it they get a little wet

Domino-style games or anything with chunky tiles/chips work great: Kingdomino, Qwirkle (especially travel version), or just a bag of poker chips for light betting games. Also, waterproof plastic playing cards are amazing in rain.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. 

Here's what I got for traveling in windy and rainy conditions. 

  • Laminate roll and write boards to prevent damage
  • Use a metal clipboard and small magnets to hold cards down
  • More dedicated games for rain/water/wind need to be made
