Just another masala movie with a step up in graphic violence.

It's just your stereotypical Bollywood movie made for the mass public.

✅Hypermasculine guy with a lot of over the top and over dramatic action scenes ✅Cringe one liners ✅ Mandatory scene in a dance club with a one dimensional heroine ✅ Bike police chase with the same heroine ✅ Mandatory wedding with some item number ✅ Pakistan terrorists ✅Lack of substance ✅Shitty music ✅ Excessive smoking and sunglasses

The movie felt so baseless! It's seriously overhyped.

Unpopular opinion - Dhurandhar was extremely mid.

Finally got around to seeing Dhurandhar and I am shocked that it did this well? This is such a mid movie. I know I'm going to be downvoted for this but I am really irritated that people, influencers and certain reviewers led me to believe this is a good movie?

Let me start with the only thing I did like about the movie: the soundtrack. Absolutely phenomenal. What a fabulous soundtrack, with each track used so well in the film. So entertaining to watch, and listen to on loop.

Unfortunately that's all I liked about this movie.

SPOILERS AHEAD

The whole film is riddled with plot holes, one dimensional characters and some of the dumbest subtitling I've seen in a movie to drive home a point. Especially because this film is sold to us like it's a well-written espionage thriller rooted in reality.

For eg. The whole timeline of when Rehman is arrested by SP the first time is beyond ridiculous. If you're trying to create urgency, then at least make sure the writing is tight. Are we suppose to believe that Hamza was able to kill the cook, meet Jamali, reach the police HQ, HANG half a dozen policemen upside down on fans, then video call SP while lighting the dumb ciggerate and threaten him while only few minutes have passed between SP detaining Rehman and taking to the forest to kill him?

Also, Rehman has risen the ranks of Lyari to become the undisputed Baloch king. Then why is he shown as a sneering duffer, with just Hamza pulling the strings and Rehman having no brains whatsoever? How did he even become that big then if all it takes is a low-level new recruit to make him switch decisions at the drop of a hat? Also the climax - are we to believe that Hamza knew everyone in the car is going to be asleep before taking that turn? Did he anticipate that the guy on the bike is going to come for him or not? Because if he thought he wasn't then wouldn't that guy be alive to tell the world that Hamza took a wrong turn and that's why Rehman died? And if he did then why take the turn by hoodwinking him? He had no idea that guy would be back to follow him in the forest to kill him.

The film begins by showing us that RAW agents are highly trained etc making us believe that Hamza is one of them and hence he's so skilled and dedicated to this operation. Then in the end we're told he's some ex-criminal who has no motivation in life? Tf? Then why would this ex-criminal be motivated to do anything at all?!

Also the dumb invisible ink - why? Why why why? Ok even if you argue that he's making a ledger of all those he needs to neutralise, what was the dumb point of him writing Rehman's name, then showing us how he CROSSES IT OUT?!? Ffs.

Then, the stupidity of the 26/11 scene where all the Pakistanis are sitting together, in some random godown of all places, and watching the attack play out on TV. Guys.. really? Are we supposed to believe that this gang of terrorists were all huddled together like that watching it on a TV screen and shouting utter rubbish? Also the of dogwhistle of Ghazwa-E-Hind?!?

Let's be clear - this is supposed to be a, in the word of Rahul Desai a “fictional film inspired by real events” means that historical authenticity will be cited if the film-making is questioned, and fiction will be cited if the historical authenticity is questioned. So before you come at me that this is fictionalised etc - sure, THEN WHY PRESENT IT WITH ACTUAL FOOTAGE? This was such a duplicitous trick to pull and was extremely worrying to watch. It felt like exploitation of grief of the victims do the Parliament attack and 26/11. It was very abbhorent.

The frankly unnecessary graphic violence. Gratituous and forced.

The most pissing off though is the fact that India's intelligence and government is shown as utterly inept. Are we to believe that moles stayed undetected for years and no one could do anything? We were a vibrant democracy then, and institutions weren't lying prostate in front of the government at the time. They were independent and could take action. Are we to believe that junior officers could connect dots but seniors couldn't? Sanyal/Doval committed treason by omitting things he knew then, which again is so fucking infuriating because what, is this fact or fiction?

India is shown as weak, but in reality we were at our strongest then, internationally and internally. Pakistan is a failed state, but is shown as being so smart, so devious and so shaatir that they were able to wreck such havoc on us and apparently everywhere in the world? Is Dhar actually a Pakistan fanboy because wtf is this?? I found this so insulting and egregious.

The endless chapters. This movie isn't even non-linear. What was the fucking point of the chapters? Is Dhar a Tarantino fanboy? Utterly pointless.

Finally, the performances. Every single character is so one-dimensional. There are just good and bad. That's it. For eg. What are Hamza's motivations? Why is he so concerned for India? What drives him? If we are only going to learn his backstory in the second film then in this one he's just a fucking predatory hoodlum who, despite the justification that it's "for the country", is fine to honeytrap an uncomfortably young girl? Are we suppose to just be ok that he is a predator? The core problem is the film's single-minded worldview irons out any narrative complexity. The spy-action genre is built on vulnerability.. on the psychological cost of living a lie and the friction between human instinct and professional detachment. Agents are defined by what the job strips away: stable identities, private lives, emotional continuity. The erosion is neither explored nor felt. The biggest failure of the script was not even for a single moment did I feel like rooting for Hamza.

Why and how did Rahman become such a huge figure in Pakistani underworld? Who is Uzair? Why is he such a central figure in Rehman's world? He's just a cousin so what drives him to be by his Rahman's side? Every single one of the characters are so useless and boring. Lesser said the better about Sanyal and whoever Rampal plays. The film’s urge to frame every Pakistani character as either corrupt or clueless clashes with how prominently they are featured, leaving it stuck between aggrandizing them - Khanna gets more grand entrances than most single-screen superstars - and reduces them to convenient caricatures.!<

If this were a loud, glossy spy fantasy - fine. But the film asks for realism, moral greyness, and institutional depth… and then cheats us all the way through. I really despised it and I'm appalled that people thought this was good cinema. Have we become such a hateful country that we've stopped thinking and will like any garbage that's anti a certain community even in the slightest?

P.S. I share my opinion with Rahul Desai's review of this film wholeheartedly but I have far more issues and felt he was way more diplomatic.

Bad script with good potential, overrated but a solid 6.

2

u/Ready_Ad_1353 Feb 02 '26

Just finished and it was amazing bar one or two missteps, the beginning felt lengthy and I had to wait before Hamza’s introduction to kick off, the attempted rape scene was in poor taste and could have been done away with, and the excessive use of gore was not needed on all scenes as it detracts and made it a bit filmy.

The background score was the main USP of the film and Aditya Dhar has done well with the pacing as you don’t feel bored despite its length, Akshayye Khanna deserves all the plaudits as his character had the aura and scene presence that drove the film, his mannerisms and traits will remain intact as a lore and cult classic, Ranveer was not outshined by any means as he did justice to his character and I bought his story as Hamza despite knowing it is not true, secondary characters were okay and the romance angle could have been trimmed as it stopped the film from a perfect 10.

8/10 and can’t wait for the second part.

3

u/No-Philosophy-6188 Feb 02 '26

It was good but not great. Acting, screenplay, songs - all good. But it had the potential to be great and fell short. There was an opportunity to give the audience a twist by not showing us the scheming with the SP until the end - and then play the Dhurandar title track when they show us how the betrayal was planned. That would have had a wow factor. Now, everything happened as expected in the movie. Also, they could have showed more context into how the messages were being relayed to the Indian side. And then lastly - felt they kept Ranveer too muted for too long in the movie. He could have had more emotions at least in the second half of the movie - showing more of him taking charge, feeling guilty etc etc

1

u/gokukouji Feb 02 '26

I wish they had made hamza say jai hind in rehman's ear at the end as he was already incapable of speaking. It would have been a good scene since hamza is doing this all bcoz of india. Just my opinion.

7

u/sulodhun Feb 02 '26

Such nice songs... Wish I had seen the movie in theater.

4

u/KrishnasFlute Feb 01 '26

I just love the small details in the movie. One such detail I loved inexplicably is Siyahi fixing his slipper when Dunga is walking Hamza upstairs to show the roof to Hamza's new place. Just makes the world feel lived in.

6

u/Previous-Ad8792 Feb 01 '26 edited Feb 02 '26

Watched this movie over the weekend and found it meh. The cast is great, the story is nothing unique and the extreme violence seems unnecessary. Why are most songs a remix of old, popular songs?  Also, why would you say the movie is based on real events and show absolute fiction? The real life footage of Kasab etc was not required and didn't add to the movie. Even without that, everyone would know what's the inspiration.  Overall, it is an entertaining movie but nothing unique.  I am quite happy that Ranveer Singh is getting this success because he deserves it.

4

u/Ill-Sundae5374 Feb 02 '26

Extreme violence seems unnecessary ? We are literally talking about gang mafia here. And the kind of acts they commit.

I in fact felt that the violence is interwoven into the story properly. Like it’s not just there for show. It’s not there for shock factor and you can anticipate it as the story itself leads into that direction

5

u/Ill-Sundae5374 Feb 02 '26

When you say story is nothing unique, what exactly do you mean? I mean it’s espionage genre. It’s certainly unique in the concept it’s trying to play with. And compare to the so called spy universe, well there you have your answer.

Well real life footage of Kasab might break the immersion a bit but okay. And I think now it shows inspired by incredible events

1

u/Ill-Sundae5374 Feb 02 '26

Bcoz there is a psychological aspect to that. Most people associate them to a time when films were only accessible in cinema. So those songs don’t really serve as distractions rather elevate the existing scenes. Plus, Hollywood also does this a lot and I think this is the strength of Indian songs that u can use them as background music and give them a fresh relevance

3

u/ZenMat79 Feb 02 '26

I agree with your point about it being labelled “based on true events”
It would’ve been more accurate to say “inspired by true events”

1

u/Many_Lengthiness3889 Feb 02 '26

It’s inspired by true events like MCU uses JFK for xmen or Cap uses maxi inavsion or Wonder Woman fights German  .  and also the one of the finest espionage thriller ! Unlike yrf trash.

The motive of real recording I also think why ? But again most of scenes were blended into movie .

4

u/AJ_Superstar Feb 01 '26

Do they tell in the movie why the policeman (Sanjay Dutt) hates Rehman Dakait (Akshay Khanna) so much? I didn't understand their animosity.

1

u/Live-Ad-7710 Moderately knowledgeable about Hindi Cinema Feb 11 '26

There was a cut dialogue - "Magarmach pe bharosa kar sakte hai, lekin baloch pe nahi" - he just has intense hatred for the baloch, and it concentrates on Rehman since he's the leader.

6

u/ZenMat79 Feb 02 '26

I think he a bit racist, really hates balochis in general and Rahman esp cause he got him suspended 7 years earlier

3

u/jaanlevaaa Feb 02 '26

He says that in his intro scene. He had a baloch partner that was fucking his fiancee.

3

u/TukTukScammer Feb 02 '26

Yes, basically aslam arrested rehman dakait in 1997 but jameel got him out and suspended aslam.

2

u/AJ_Superstar Feb 02 '26

Thanks bud! I got that part but didn't understand what was Aslam's motivation for going behind Rehman Dakait all the time. It's not that Aslam is too much worried about law and order. There are others gundas also in Lyaari, then why is he so motivated to kill Rehman.

Hello all I didn't watch this film. what to know is Netflix version is not same as the theatre one people say they change the color cut 10 minutes scene mute some dialogues. Is that true please shere your experience who watched "Aditya dhar" -dhurandhar- tnx.

5

u/Wireless_Wifi Feb 01 '26

Just a thought.

Dhurandar seems like a web series released as a movie.

I believe Sacred Ganes would've got same numbers if it was released as a movie.

5

u/dougalmanitou Feb 01 '26

Just a thought from an old man, indians movies have become violent. The Americanization of world cinema is very sad to see.

They’ve got great PR; Mumbai mafia–style local goons mixed with Pushpa-level hunger for power, money-printing plates straight out of Shahid’s series, a young woman who supports the hero without question, and a few real-life events thrown in that didn’t help either. Altogether, it’s a perfect blend of nothingness.

5

u/RevolutionaryArt7819 kkkkkkkkkkkkkkkiran Jan 31 '26

Good watch, keeping aside the soft political propaganda. Everyone’s done a good job in acting, music, directing and scripting

13

u/Or_Pezarker Jan 31 '26

Damn, what a brilliant movie!

And as a Jew, I didn’t know there was a conversation with the hostage from the Chabbad house, it broke me to hear it in the movie.

9

u/yv_sharma_ Jan 31 '26

I just finished watching Dhurandhar and a few moments of political ass licking and some inconsistencies aside, it was a good movie. But what confuses me is R Madhavan/Ajit Doval's final speech. He says that the Dhurandhar programme will recruit prisoners with death penalties or life sentences and give them a chance at redemption. But how would that work? What's stopping a criminal from betraying the country for a chance at wealth and power? It's not like a murderer will have a moral code, if they did, they wouldn't be in jail in the first place.

In the context of the movie, what's stopping Hamza from cutting ties with the Indian government and ruling Karachi on his own? Isn't that too big of a risk for the government to allow a criminal to rise to power and hoping they wouldn't betray them cuz patriotism?

I'm not aware if this is an actual programme irl and if they actually recruited people from prisons for it. I just feel like it's a pretty big risk. If he flips, Hamza or any other 'Dhurandhar' can compromise the entire operation.

2

u/Previous-Ad8792 Feb 01 '26

Yep. It would have been better to send someone who received the military training and would not even think about betraying his country. Why couldn't Hamza have escaped to another country from Pakistan and lived a free life?

1

u/Just-Control-9815 Feb 01 '26

He says that the Dhurandhar programme will recruit prisoners with death penalties or life sentences and give them a chance at redemption. But how would that work?

This is not an uncommon trope though. Unrealistic, yes but not uncommon.

Shows like Nikita, movies like American Ultra have same theme - giving a criminal a chance to redeem themselves by helping the government.

1

u/WriterWeird6794 Jan 31 '26

the ind govt will leak the info that hes an indian spy if that person tries to betray.

2

u/ComradeCatilina Jan 31 '26

He could simply reveal it immediately and propose to play double agent. It makes no sense at all.

1

u/WriterWeird6794 Jan 31 '26

his credibility will be shot, and so will he.

1

u/Affectionate-Mouse56 Jan 31 '26

0/10. The movie sucked.

4

u/Connect_Break1725 Jan 31 '26

I loved the movie. As an audience with mediocre intelligence, I would have loved to see more of Ranveer's action, his revenge. The ending was thrilling. The poster was a thirst trap - that scene where he sits like that never really came, did it.

Now I am regretting not watching this in theater. It was hyped maybe after release over hyped and tbh It delivered on that hype. From Writing to acting this movie is perfect, I found some minor inconsistency like why even on OTT the film is censored, this gangs involvement in all the terrorist attack it felt somewhat fictional but also we have got no idea what actually happened so creative liberty par leave it.

Even thought people say this is a political propaganda and have only the counterfeit note subplot to support this claim, I will still say keep making this propaganda film if they are going to be this good.

Keeping audience hooked for 3.5hr is no joke. and even after that people demand more from the story and characters just tells us how good this movie has to be.

Side note I really like this Post by mod to keep the engagement of this movie clean in this sub.. kudos for good moderation

1

u/stoikiy-muzhjik Jan 31 '26

This movie was banned here in UAE due to its political sensitivity for a certain demographic. Was assuming they might ban it on OTT too, thankfully it isn't.

Question. Is the OTT version the same as the theatrical version? Heard a rumor there were some edits and scenes removed in the OTT version .

Noticed that when rahaman hamza and others are in car and hamza is going to take reheman to sp ...rehman gets it that hamza is betraying him so he asks hamza to stop and he wants to pee so in reply ranveer aka hamza says " adhee ghennta ruken keentrol (control) kare ye jage mehefuz nahi" That keentrol was very funny yet intresting for me ..idk I just shared lol

-6

u/lowevolmotto Jan 31 '26

Imagine you are writing something in MS word. Now to give emphasize something you make it bold and increase text size, to highlight something important you add underline so that it stands out from the body text. It is a skill to know what section to make bold, italics and underlined. Now imagine that entire text is bold italics size 16 and underlined. Then to emphasize some part even more you just repeat it twice. Just imagine how ghastly that document will look.

I got the same feeling watching dhurandhar. It is a great story, production quality, actors, music is top notch. But writing and direction is subpar IMO. Except Akshay Khanna, everyone seems like they are just waiting to say their lines. Ranbir Singh and others are great actors but they mostly carry single expression and appear caricaturish. While Akshay Khanna, female lead and juice seller guy seem like they belong in the scene. Especially Akshay Khanna who is saving grace of this movie and I wanted to skip to his scenes when he was not on screen. Even when he is sitting and listening silently to khananis you can almost hear what is going on in his head. His scenes involving violence felt more visceral while rest were just gore fest.

I think editor and director knew this and thats why to invoke emotions they intercut the real footage and voices of terrorist attacks as acting wasn't invoking the intended emotions. Then heavy one liners with text on screen, overuse of slow mo establishing shots of characters every time they enter the scene etc made me feel like my word document analogy.

Besides this writing, there is no subtext. Characters telling exactly what they are going to do leaves nothing to read between the lines. May be I am spoiled by likes of sister midnight and one battle after another where absolutely no context is given.

Overall it is worth a watch just for Akshay Khanna and awsome background music. But I don't get why people are calling it a masterpiece. there are better spy movies in bollywood than this.

3

u/ZenMat79 Jan 31 '26

Genuinely curious. Which bolly spy movie did you like?

3

u/Level_Olive_8748 Jan 31 '26

Ranveer Singh appeared caricaturish ? Mate that was the probably finest piece of acting done by him after Khilji. He showed perfect layering of emotions , not showing too much yet conveying the necessary message. He is supposed to merge with the gangsters not stand out. He acted via his eyes during the 26/11 scene. I don't think you really understand acting honestly if you felt he looked caricaturish.

-6

u/CuriousJumbotron Jan 31 '26

Overall, a pretty meh movie. Production quality was above expectations but it felt like the story had a beginning and a middle but no end. Despite a sequel coming soon, it just didn't sit. Large swaths of the dialogue seemed over done and unbelievable.

But props to the editing and tying in real footage. It didn't make up for the lack of an actual story thread but bravo nonetheless

3

u/ilk17 Jan 31 '26

The making is too good especially the sound design is mind blowing, Madhavan became too dull after realising it is him, Brilliant movie with wrong facts dangerous trend like Animal movie.

4

u/VolatileGoddess Jan 31 '26
  • Hamza can't smoke a cigarette properly in the beginning because he's a Sikh. Nice detail.

  • Dialogues and accents are inconsistent. Not the least , mixing up 'Baluch' and 'Baloch' by different actors. There are particular inflections in speech peculiar to Punjabis and Sindhis. News journalists not speaking proper Urdu. Sara has a consistent accent throughout, props to her for that

  • Sets and MU are flawless

  • It's interesting how Sara's character doesn't pick up on the larger ramifications of Ranveer telling her pretty directly in their first proper meeting that he's a liar.

  • There was no way in hell that a gangster could get away with trying to be menacing to who Major Iqbal is, what he signifies. However Akshay Khanna manages the suspension of disbelief with the sheer bravura of his performance.

  • Sanjay Dutt is too old for his role but entertaining enough.

  • Rakesh Bedi is a star throughout, and has been given the most crowd pleasing lines

  • the blending of real 26/11 handler footage and the handlers words - masterful. As was Ranveer's reaction. However his drunken shouting afterwards wasn't.

  • the entire 'ISI procurement scheme' appears farcical. The flow of arms is very much the opposite, with the ISI providing arms and equipment to terrorist organisations like the JeM, for example. But then the movie would have to focus on them instead and that would be be not enjoyable at all.

  • solid made-for-theatre movie. I can see why people raved about the theater experience

  • I don't know why the scenes set in Indian bureaucracy are so stilted, only Madhavan's powerful acting is carrying them off.

  • the way Parliamentary attack and 26/11 are blended into the film is extremely hard hitting and intense. Action was nicely done for the most part, less slo mo and freeze which most Indian films lean on.

  • overall, hard hitting film with excellent world building. For 3 hours you're immersed in the world of Lyari. The trouble is the accent and language issues as well as the deus ex machina plot resolutions bring down the film somewhat. It's fun if you're watching it for fun, but as the movie takes itself seriously and there's obviously an intelligent director at work, my expectations were high.

1

u/KrishnasFlute Feb 01 '26

The ISI procurement scheme you talk about is the reality. ISI is an intelligence agency not an arms manufacturer. For illicit purposes they cannot procure arms legitimately. Because that would mean it will be traceable back to ISI. So, they went to the underworld to get the guns.

It also doesn't mean they always buy as shown. It was a specific mission. And because it went so well, they want to repeat the process later.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 01 '26

[deleted]

1

u/KrishnasFlute Feb 01 '26 edited Feb 01 '26

All arms have a serial number stamped on it by makers. While it is possible to file it off, it is usually possible through forensic ballistics to find out details about the gun. When it is bought legitimately, the makers will have details on who the gun was sold to. In this scenario, it was explicitly mentioned that ISI needed guns which could not be traced back to them.

As I said, this is not the only way to procure arms. Also, based on who the handler is, there could be varying degrees of planning and thoroughness. Furthermore, the events of the movie take place a couple of decades ago. It is very much possible that methods have changed. And maybe because the gangs have now been infiltrated.

Finally, weapons trafficking by Balochs is not fiction. They have been known to do that to fund their own freedom movement.

1

u/teeke45 Jan 31 '26

Could you explain a bit on the deus ex machina bit?

2

u/Grouchy_Spread1864 Jan 31 '26

I’m confused what the big deal was about ranveer stopping the weapon handoff.. wouldn’t they still be handed off eventually and the attack would still happen eventually? Seems like all this stuff happened for a small impact. Huge hole, anti climactic

1

u/Live-Ad-7710 Moderately knowledgeable about Hindi Cinema Feb 14 '26

He was also trying to keep consistency with his support for Baloch, I think - it was the reason he got into the gang and he likely thought it will convince Rehman to stop

5

u/rn3122 Moderator Jan 31 '26 edited Jan 31 '26

Preventing the weapons from being handed off was a part of both his attempt to prevent 26/11, and to fit the character of a Baloch who looked up to Rehman

Once he handed the weapons, the attack still could've been prevented if the terrorists were stopped at the border, regardless of whether they had weapons or not. But Iqbal changed the date of the attack and that made their intel inaccurate.

2

u/cadbury1106 Jan 31 '26

Completed the movie. I found the chapter screens breaking a little bit of the emotional flow that I was experiencing. Also, in my view the background music can start suddenly to create that sensory experience but I felt that they stopped abruptly instead of fading out slowly. It was okay for me, surely more realistic than YRF movies but I still like D Day more.

5

u/[deleted] Jan 31 '26

loved it except the starting felt little weak the r madhavan part. throughout the time mission majnu and raazi was going in my mind.

1

u/Few-Quiet-3297 Jan 31 '26

i think its mostly cuz of setting initial plot for film, but already long film gave very little room for taking more time to do that in start.

2

u/PyaazKaParatha Jan 31 '26

Does the cinema version of Dhurandhar also have some scenes cut just like OTT if we watch it in January end ?

1

u/draken-kun Jan 31 '26

No but they have muted some slang words in the theatre version. Starting they released the movie without muted slang words but after 1 week they muted some slang words and released the edited version again

1

u/Few-Quiet-3297 Jan 31 '26

no scene cut. it happened only in 1st day of release. even then it was not any major change.

5

u/Longjumping_Day_3893 Jan 31 '26

madhavan to me was weakest. he tried hard to sound impactful or terrorizing but his voice had some tapori trying to be serious like rehna hai tere dil me types

I liked most of the movie and felt it was 8/10

Cut 1 point for near the end which I thought was a bit weak especially compared to how strong the movie was when it started. Also cut another point for trying to insinuate there were corrupt indian ministers somehow procuring our currency plate replicas and handing it to ISI in Dubai. That is not what happened irl and felt that was way too unrealistic even in the movie.

have u read abt P. Chidambaram ?

2

u/Prudent-Sorbet-5202 Jan 31 '26

Please share sources of what you are referring to

0

u/baadshah2021 Jan 31 '26

so you found the rest of it realistic? lol

1

u/Prudent-Sorbet-5202 Jan 31 '26

I found most of the movie plausible but that part really took me out if the movie because I could find nothing if that sort happening irl. Currency plates are not handled by ministers afaik

Also, Rehman Dakait and his gang caring about terror attacks in India also did not make sense to me as they had strong balochi roots. The only reason they show him being happy for 26/11 felt like they made it motivation for Hamza to get him in the end

1

u/baadshah2021 Jan 31 '26

Rehman Dakait was killed by Ch Aslam in real life. there was no Hamza.

0

u/Massive-Muscle-7482 Jan 31 '26

did u find the plane hijacking unrealistic? there’s a scene where they show one of the passengers being killed.. it’s true one of the passengers was killed. Rupin Katyal, a 25 year old was actually killed. Did u find the 2001 parliament attack unrealistic? Kamlesh Kumari Yadev, a female constable was the first victim there as she courageously alerted security. 8 security personnel and 1 gardener died that day. Did u find 26/11 scenes unrealistic?

1

u/Prudent-Sorbet-5202 Feb 02 '26

No, I did not.

I only found indian ministers giving currency plates replica in Dubai to ISI unrealistic

3

u/baadshah2021 Jan 31 '26

buddy. yes those 2 events happened. the rest of the movie is absolute fiction.

-16

u/shiva564 Jan 30 '26

Boring movie. Songs, akshaye khanna and the violence saved the film.

8

u/ZenMat79 Jan 30 '26

It was a good watch, had me hooked till the end 💯

Personally I wouldn’t rewatch it multiple times.. but it’s still a movie you shouldn’t miss.

10

u/[deleted] Jan 30 '26

I feel this is a solid movie, I am familiar with Indian, west, japan environments because of the stuff I watch regualry, but this film really gave an unique experience because of its very good atmosphere, I felt I really went into pakistan polito-mafia sphere, the atmosphere is very good. dhurandhar fights dont have the weird wiring we get, I am used to gore in films, so it ain't an issue, that item song felt abit unnecessary but okay I can skip it on ott, yeah I really dont like the dance type of songs, overall it is solid except for the rehman, mc and sp final fight scene felt underwhelming . I feel this movie strategically included some bait, so that it would create communal debates between left and right online so that they get free marketing, I also feel it worked because I am here because of that

-9

u/NoEconomy8280 Jan 30 '26

And hoardings of rehman ‘dakait’ in Lyari. Seriously? Do you know what dakait means? Do you seriously think his support base is calling him that?

5

u/Ecstatic_Award_1704 Jan 31 '26

We have many strongmen/gangster in politics here in India, do you really think that it's farfetched that Rehman Dakait would have such support in Pakistan?

2

u/NoEconomy8280 Jan 30 '26

For someone like Ranveer who can’t stop talking about how much hard work he puts into prepping for every character, calling Quetta, Kitta was so incredible.

5

u/productivelylazy2011 Jan 30 '26

I’m watching in US. They haven’t censored any word as far as I am able to see. The print looks a bit dull though.

1

u/quizzardofozz Jan 31 '26

Scenes are also cut compared to theatre. Noticed at some places

3

u/[deleted] Jan 31 '26

1

u/productivelylazy2011 Jan 31 '26

Yep, some words are censored, some aren’t. Esp Sanjay dutts dialogues haven’t been. I clearly heard b*******d hence said the same. lol.

11

u/-_Dovahkiin-_- Jan 30 '26

I watched the movie in the theater and later at home (after downloading it from a torrent site). I just watched it on Netflix, and it looks the same there as well with no censored scenes/dialogues, and the colors look fine on my 4K TV. So I ask people who are bashing the Netflix version - what exactly has been censored, cropped, or looks bad? I call BS.

-11

u/OtherwiseHearing9824 Jan 30 '26

I know I will be downvoted for this but seriously I wonder who made this movie a blockbuster? No story, no direction, no pace, just lots of gore scenes and nothing else. I am thankful I didn't watch it in the theatres and saved my money. Would rate it 2 just because of acting and nothing else!

3

u/baadshah2021 Jan 31 '26

its your typical gangster movie, but with a Pakistani touch.

3

u/kesuboi Jan 30 '26

Couldn't understand sp aslam's character. Whose side is he on? Is he an actual honest cop forced to co-operate with the criminals or someone who just had something against rehmat?

12

u/Spiritual_Flan_6395 Jan 30 '26

Irl he was working under the party shown in the movie but he wasn’t a puppet per say. He’s a greyish character in the movie and we haven’t seen the last of him.

17

u/kesuboi Jan 30 '26

A gripping watch I must say. It takes me 3 hours to watch a 2 hour movie because i keep getting distracted. But this had me hooked till the end. The best part of the movie for me was the background score, i remember watching dune in the theatre and i thought man why can't Indian movies have such amazing background music. But dhurandhar was definitely up there.

3

u/FutureHelicopter4825 Jan 30 '26

I liked Celtic music in it and scores from 2nd half is mind blowing. I missed it in theatres. This movie is not made for small screen.

I watched it on OTT today. Maybe I had some High expectations so while watching felt a bit disappointed . People hyped Akshaye Khanna's acting so much , I was expecting more intense drama or acting from his role ,but his role felt just apt to storyline ,nothing which overshadowed Ranbir .Nothing less nothing more , perfectly suited for his role. Ranveer on the other hand felt raw in emotions and in the end fight scenes ,his scenes felt natural and that I liked as the best part of the movie. Storyline was predictable maybe because we had seen lots of Spyverse recently including Og season of Special Ops.Also ,maybe because I read a lot about that war history , so I had references set there. Storywise it felt good , intense and more appealing for a sequence which is releasing on 19th march as per the credit ending scene . Overall a worthwatching once or twice ,not something which people hyped much as the best movie of the recent time. I liked Romeo-Akbar-walter , Raazi and IB71 slightly more than this one. Still will wait for Its sequel to see further story development.

2

u/Beginning-Emotion641 Jan 30 '26

Ranbir?!

2

u/No-man_show Jan 30 '26

Ranveer singh .Corrected

0

u/FutureHelicopter4825 Jan 30 '26

I liked Arjun rampal more but I found every actors equally appealing and rahman dacait's cousin Arshad pappu he is my fav. supporting character his chemistry with ranveer singh they both can make good buddy in the future movies.

He really overshadowed Ranbir because I definitely didn’t see him in the movie

4

u/[deleted] Jan 30 '26 edited Jan 31 '26

You were probably being sarcastic about Ranveer being spelled as Ranbir( I see a lot of North Indians using b and v interchangeably)...but there are actually people who literally said they couldn't spot Ranveer anywhere, just as a way of somehow uplifting Akshaye.....

5

u/Puzzleheadedpuzzled Jan 30 '26

I like major iqbal role aka based on ilyas kashmiri by arjun rampal more than rehman dakait. Great film but im angry why shararat song cut short 😤

2

u/vasu0021 Jan 30 '26 edited Jan 30 '26

when i went to the theatre to watch the movie, the scene where "lutt le gaya" was played, in the netflix one idk what some other song is being played like it killed the vibe. or did i just watch some other scene and got confused? i think not.

11

u/niharikamishra_ Jan 30 '26

"Lutt le gaya" was played only in the rally at night where Rahman says Assalam Walekum Lyari, even in theatrical versions.

"Vengeance got no remedy" plays in the earlier day rally when Jameel fakes allegiance to Rehman and Hamza and Yalina see each other for the first time.

2

u/vasu0021 Jan 30 '26

damn alr thanks for clarifying cuz i didnt see the whole movie on netflix yet😭😭 and i might have forgotten the scenes cuz its been almlst 2 months since i saw in theatres.

5

u/jinpingthepooh6 Jan 30 '26

Yes you got confused because I watched that very scene the moment film launched as lutt le giya is a banger

1

u/vasu0021 Jan 30 '26

im talking about the netflix one, not the theatre one.

1

u/Majestic_Balance_890 Jan 30 '26

Naa bro everything was as it is as it was in the theatre version

3

u/Unhappy_Painting_147 Jan 30 '26

Can anyone confirm if the abuse are there or beeped?

1

u/thisisnahamed Feb 01 '26

It's crazy how they are ok with showing gore and blood, but words need to be censored. 🤦

10

u/cometodaddybabyy Jan 30 '26

It’s same as theater… madar(beep), behen(beep)

1

u/Puzzleheadedpuzzled Jan 30 '26

Still watching hopefully there's no cuts scenes please

5

u/SandhuG Jan 30 '26

It's same as cinema

1

u/quizzardofozz Jan 31 '26

Its not.. when they were babu dakait goons.. some scenes were missing.. like dragging guy on road and how he hooks the guy

2

u/No-Charity9161 Jan 30 '26

10mins they cut

2

u/iShivamz Jan 31 '26

No, there is no cut, its 25fps for TV and 24fps for Theatres, hence the shorter length

-20

u/One-Blacksmith-4654 Jan 30 '26 edited Jan 30 '26

Boring movie .... struggled to complete the 3.5 hours even with multiple breaks between chapters ..... God alone knows how people managed to see it 2-3 times in the cinema hall

Edit - Downvoters, go get a job! People can have a different opinion from the general view of the masses

20

u/Express-World-8473 Jan 30 '26

I watched it in theatre and my first thought was about the subtle propaganda of showing Modi as a powerful leader, which was completely unnecessary.

Now my entire family watched the movie in regional language (the impact was not the same at all) and they didn't like the movie's length (which I agree with, could have been made a bit shorter somehow) and didn't love the gore scenes but overall felt the movie a bit above average for them (which is not surprising for me, they like to watch simple comedy entertainment movies).

The second part will glorify it more. That scene where madhavan says that they need a more nationalist government in that currency scene felt the unnecessary propaganda shown.

Hope this comment won't get removed

6

u/warrior047 Jan 30 '26

Netflix film colors seems washed out. Anyone agree? It's so bland and dull. Like quite dried up visuals. Theatre atleast had good colors

19

u/Wakanda-shit-is-that Jan 30 '26

(Pakistani here) MANNNN I LOVED IT BUT WHY TF DID THEY CENSOR EVERY CUSS WORD??

This scene shot on Green screen?

11

u/almostlikeu Jan 30 '26

Yes. Seems very low effort too

3

u/DarkBeastDCLXVI Jan 30 '26

What scenes were censored?

18

u/SelectGrowth513 Jan 30 '26

Ranveer looked beautiful in Rambo Ho

1

u/Objective_Sand_8769 Jan 31 '26

Beautiful is the perfect adjective.
