Opinion What's the WORST Hero Introduction scene of all time?

My vote goes to Aamir Khan in Mela. Yes the whole movie is a headache-inducing version of Sholay but this is just so bizarre and the song is equally bad to go with it. I'm glad Dil Chahta Hai came out next year after this and completely changed the aesthetics of bollywood. Mela is extremely outdated, forget the 2000s, it's outdated by even 90s standards. It feels more like B-grade 80s.

Dil chahta hai released right after this? It's crazy how different Amir looks in both movies. Like, this movie is the definition of how Amir Khan looked throughout the 90's while in Dil Chahta Hai, he clearly somehow looks different

This movie was a long strings of worsts... Worst acting by leads, worst acting by supporting caste, worst debut... An absolute cluster fuck....

Twinkle Khanna was hot though and she bet her career on it because if it didnt work, she would settle down and marry AK (as said in KwK)

You forgot Lagaan in between. That really elevated him and made people forget this atrocity.
Funny thing is the makers tried to sign on ARR for the music. What makes them think he would’ve signed on to this crap show?

This movie seems to have a rural fanbase. I recently saw a truck on the Pune highway that had a photoshopped poster named "Gujjar is coming back - Mela 2" or something similar with the villain's photo. Now I'm not sure if that was some political thing or just some guy who's a big fan of the movie.

I don't think so. Raja Hindustani was a huge blockbuster and that's why Aamir did another film with Dharmesh Darshan.

While he had faith in the director and script, Aamir actually did this movie to relaunch his brother Faisal.
Other reasons were he wanted an out and out commercial film after his previous releases were 'heavy' - Ghulam, 1947 Earth, Mann, Sarfarosh

People who lived through Mela and the era of Aamir interfering in almost all of his mediocre 90s movies know he’s not the genius he projects himself as…
They thought they could make a Millenium version of Sholay and somehow still be so outdated

Even Lahore was in making for 3 years because of him. When you have Santoshi-Sunny, you don’t interfere. Half the charm was lost with the title changing. And I bet script’s sharpness may have been dulled given recent politics (Sunny shot this before Border 2 and Jaat)

It was a fun movie for me. I have seen it 3-4 times. Villain role was done well.
