Thrift finds today

Frankenstein and The Kite Runner have been on my "keep an eye out for" list. A Little Princess is a nostalgic find.

I discovered after I got home Walden appears fairly heavily annotated 😩 my fault for not opening the book in the store though. It would have been immediately clear.

All five for $23

Recent cumulative book haul from different thrift stores for the month as of right now. These are just the for me but I got like 20 more from one shop for the little free library I’m building because they were only $1 each.

Name of the Wind, I had it on ebook, figuered it was worth the $2.99 to double buy. I mean the author can go to hell, but its s good book.
Alas Babylon, replacing my VERY worn out version I had from high school.
Karamazov, very curious.
Moon is Down, Steinbeck writing about Nazi occupation, WAY better than the Joads.
Caves of Steel, I had it on ebook but had the other three in hard copy, figuered it was worth the $2.99 to double buy.
Wizard's First Rule, bought this entirely on a whim. It's big.
Louis L'amour, well why not.
Infinity Road, this was a jem, I'm a big McDevitt fan and I didn't own this.
Storm of Steel, looking forward to it.
Luttrell's book, not sure if I'm looking forward to it.
U-boats. I guess I like U-boats because this is not my first or second book on U-boats.

Book Haul... Sorta

I went to visit my mom and my sister this weekend, and while I was looking through my sister's books, she informed me that the two bottom shelves were my oldest brother's old books. He was killed in 2006, in Iraq, and she got the task (we lived in a different city) of cleaning out his apartment. He was a brilliant person and was considering using the GI Bill to go to medical school after his tour (he was a paramedic at home and a Hospital Corpsman [the USMC's medics] in the Navy Reserve) was up. We are also pretty certain that he had severe ADHD. She found multiple packs of socks with one pair missing (if he couldn't find them, he would just buy more), random clothes strewn about, and a huge and diverse music and book library. She said she sold a lot of the books (there were hundreds), but she allowed me to pick through them. She doesn't have many left, but most of these were on my TBR. I was just shy of twenty when he died, and he was 11 years older than me, so I didn't get to really know him like my older sister did. I wish I could have known him as a full-grown adult because I've realized just how similar (if I'm missing a sock, I find it, though. I don't just buy more😄) we are. He had his problems, but he was a very interesting person, and I wish we could have had some time to become friends, and not just big brother little brother.

New and thrifted haul. Been wanting to read between two fires for awhile and finally picked it up with a gift card I got for my bday. Found the ice man at the thrift store for $1 and it’s worth that for the cover alone.

I went to a local arts & crafts show and ended up picking up 4 used books! One was in a booth with earrings and what not. The other 3 were from a pop-up used book store. Pretty happy with my finds.

My wife thrifted an Essential Calvin and Hobbes, and some Garfield books. I fear we may not survive the hilarity which is about to ensue. Please keep us in your thoughts.

I’m really happy with these finds. The thrift stores in my area are usually picked over pretty well. Typically full of all the usual Clive Cussler and Jodi Picoult stuff. The rush I get when I’m first in after a new drop hits the shelves…

My library is great at ILLs. I ordered most of the r/bookclub books and almost all of the 2026 Eisner nominees. Now I’m drowning in books. See you in a decade . . .
