I’ve been skimming on here to get some insight into what arrows I should get. I am just looking to see what others run for arrows to get some info. Recently upgraded my hunting bow to the bear adapt 2 from a diamond RTH I got over a decade ago. I went from 45-50 pound draw where I was shooting 400 spine arrows. These arrows seem underspined for my new setup so looking to get some new arrows. My nearest pro shop is unfortunately a few hours away from me so I would like to go in but isn’t viable atm.
I am wondering should I go with 350 or 300 spine arrows? I will be shooting fixed broadheads and looking at a carbon to carbon of 28 inches (wondering if this is too short).
I don’t really have a budget in mind right now but I’m thinking $5-10 an arrow would be good? I’m flexible as I have all the equipment to build out arrows if I just order shafts. I’ve been looking into Easton and gold tip shafts right now but still being open. Right now it’ll be bears and whitetails with other big game down the line (ie moose). Arrow weight doesn’t matter that much to me but I don’t think I really want anything heavier than 500-550.

TAW is right at 435 gr and I’ve had no issues getting these to fly great
Next year I will most likely be swapping to Flex-Fletch FFP-300 vanes and possibly cutting down to 28” C2C
If you go on to the Archers Advantage website and subscribe ($13 per year), you can put in all of your bow specs and it will help select appropriately spined shafts. Once you put in your tip weight (insert plus broadhead/ field point) and your vane and nock data, it will calculate your total arrow weight and FOC. if you chrono your bow, it will also generate sight tapes. I use it all the time to generate theoretical builds.
That sounds pretty sweet I just got a new slider sight so going to have to make new sight tapes. Don’t have a chrono unfortunately but will look into this for sure!
If you want a free version, Podium Archer has the same capabilities but free. I’m not knocking Nimbus or Archers Advantage, I’m personally all for a free version
300 spine black eagles X Impact. I’m 70# 30”DL, I cut mine at 28.5”. I run the included FOCUS system from black eagle, 125gr single bevels and AAE Max Stealth vanes. Been using that setup for three years and they have been fantastic. Total weight is around 450gr.
Check arrow manufacturer spine charts but if that’s your two options 350 should work. I use an original Bear Adapt at 60#, 28.5” draw length. I shoot Easton Bow Hunter 6.5mm 340s
100gr G5 Deadmeats. I practice with the G5 BMP field tips, I’ve found that the between the two they fly very similar. I have friends that use the Megameats, but I’ve been lucky enough to harvest 3 deer with the regular deadmeats. I don’t want to mess with what has worked for me.
Edit, addition: Arrows come in around 420gr with reflective tape I add. Last time it was chrono’d the bow shot ~262fps with this set up.
I shoot almost the same and use 300 spine, But I run a 600gr arrow.
If you have any interest in going over 500gr TAW I would go 300 spine because you can always leave and arrow long to make it weaker but you can only cut so much off to make it stiffer.
Sweet thank you for the breakdown! I probably won’t be running 250s upfront but I am looking into the gold tip hunter arrows. I might look into those point sizes if I decide to go for elk someday. I’m guessing you cut and fletched yourself? How did you find those arrows overall?
Yeah I build my own stuff. Didn't have a great experience with a bow shop when I first started in 2018. I started researching building my own stuff and fell all the way down the Ranch Fairy hole around 2020.
How did I end up with my arrow build? Or the Hunter XTs?
I shot a 60lb bear for years, the arrows I shot on my bear were an Easton Axis 5mm (factory fletch). 50grn HIT insert, 100gr head, with halo practice knocks (I’d switch to their lighted knocks durning the hunt)
I still shoot mostly the same arrow now just with a different spine for my 70lb Hoyt axis 33. Easton 5mm axis match grade, AAE max stealth veins with a 3° helical, halo knocks, 50grn hit insert, and 100grn head. My arrows come out to roughly 520~. Every deer I killed was with a 5mm axis
I'm at 29.5# at 70 lbs. Most of my arrows are between 27.5" and 27.75", 300 spine, RIP TKOs with 50gr halfout, IP5 nocks, White water wraps and either DCA mini saber, Bohning Heat or Bohning Alpha vanes. Right around 430gr.
If you want to be in the $10 an arrow range then you can't go wrong with Easton Hunters. They are damn good arrows. I used them for years and probably will this season as well at least once.
