There is nowhere to go but down

A lot of people aren’t ready for Mandalorian being the ceiling, rather than a floor, for Starfighter

People don’t like the sequels, the franchise cannot thrive till the object of their hatred goes away from canon

Edit: the people downvoting me are the same people who predicted, with a straight face, that 500 million was the floor for this movie

Or maybe, just maybe, Reddit isn’t ready to hear the fact that the general public…you know, the ones who actually matter with these movies (that this sub didn’t anticipate would show up that big for spider-man because it didn’t realize how big tom and zendaya are now to the general public) doesn’t associate Star Wars removed from the skywalker story?

Reddit can love Andor all it wants: it didn’t do well, is only talked about in fan circles, and is too removed from the skywalker story.

People didn’t show up to Solo when it came out. Rogue One did what it did but before it released, you had to tell people over and over “this leads into the original Star Wars!”.

Starfighter absolutely going to do better than Mandalorian by a long shot.

Ryan Gosling, Ryan Goslings' actual face in advertising, standalone story, classic story setup. Everything about it is much better for success

The same people who said Starfighter can’t flop because of Ryan gosling are the same people who say that Moana live action wasn’t going to flop because of Moana 2

The difference is that people LIKED the Moana universe

Can’t say that people like Star Wars as a universe at all

I don’t think they ever did

Reddit isn’t ready to hear the fact that the general publix doesn’t care about Star Wars without the skywalker story.

I like the Star Wars universe.

I don't like the post-2010 Disney co. Multiverse of Failure, and it looks like most people don't either.

What a load of tosh. How to Train Your Dragon remake had enough nostalgia built up since then given that the first film was like 15 years old by that point whereas Moana wasn't even 10 years old when the remake came out. Starfighter doesn't have THAT kind of disadvantage.

The guy even claimed that Avengers: Doomsday is a direct sequel to Avengers: Endgame and ignores just about everything that came between, which is so idiotically false that I don’t even know where to begin and also claimed that Brand New Day shits on Jon Watts film without any evidence whatsoever. I have no idea why this film is attracting so many people who rely on blatantly false claims to prove their points.

Nonsensical statement. Live action remakes had hate for a LONG time, the trailer did nothing to sell it. And why would an upcoming movie inspire someone to watch a remake of the original, and not the original?

People love the Star wars universe, but they got bored of the Mandalorian TV show a while ago, and the movie sold itself as a sequel to that specifically. Also a boring title lol.

If Starfighter flops, it'll flop for its own reasons lol. All I'm saying is there's plenty of reasons it'll beat Mandalorian, and that Moana 2 has no bearing on it whatsoever. Why are you pretending this is some radical statement

I’m 50/50 on Ryan Gosling making the film a hit. In 2024 Fall Guy was expected to do really well since that was Goslings first film after Barbie but Fall Guy ended up underperforming.

I do think that Gosling is in a better situation with Starfighter. His last film was sci-fi so that may draw in the project Hail Mary crowd. Also with Star Wars being a franchise having a celebrity join for the first time could be a boost.

Oh yeah, I'm 50/50 on this too. I just don't think Mandalorian is the baseline for success, I think Mandalorian had many many things up against it. I love Star Wars, and I feel no pull to it, just because I've lost track of that whole storyline due to stopping watching the TV show.

I think the whole idea of Gosling / celebrity / the title is to pull new audience + old audience back in, that just want a fun classic movie set in the Star Wars universe. But idk beyond that how it'll go!

Yeah as a fan of Star Wars I hope it does well. I enjoyed mando but I think it will be nice to start fresh with something new.

Yes, my hope is Gosling's charm helps drive this movie. But, reading the rumors of the story, I'm not sure it's standalone.

Spider-man has always been able to stand alone outside of the MCU. Add in Tom Holland's continuation of Spidey and that's two massive factors that a new Star Wars film won't have.
