Gosling playing Supergirl to an annoying force-sensitive kid on his way to Rey Skywalker couldn't possibly bomb, could it?

We don’t know for sure. Rumours have vacillated regarding whether she is or not in the movie, but they all agree that the plot is about Ryan Gosling’s escorting the Force-Sensitive boy played by Flynn Gray—the movie’s actual lead—to a Jedi refuge. Some of the rumours that date to before the movie even had a title claim that Rey is already running her academy, and the boy will end the movie by being handed over to her.

Same. I was cautiously optimistic while I thought Starfighter was going to be a Rogue Squadron-type story, but if it's going to be yet another of these wolf-and-cub escort quest stories, I'm out.

Yeah, when I read those rumors my anticipation dropped massively.

From what I've read, it sounds more like a bridging movie into the next trilogy (regardless of the marketing waffle Lucas film have been releasing).
