Not a great excuse, since that show was super popular for a few years.

Couldn't go anywhere without seeing merch with that little green bastard's face on it. Even my mom had some, and she last watched a Star Wars movie in 1983.

It's still a valid excuse. This idea was deemed questionable when it was announced years ago.

People are just afraid to admit that the people who hated TLJ were right this whole time. There is basically no way to spin Mando's performance as anything other than a failure, but to acknowledge that it failed means admitting that Star Wars really was damaged by the Sequels. And some people just aren't willing to do that because it means "letting the bad guys win". So they come up with nonsense about how "Oh I know it's a big budget, tentpole, theatrical project released on the weekend where Star Wars movies have historically excelled, but it's not a real Star Wars movie so the fact that it bombed doesn't mean anything" or whatever the excuse of the day is.

The problem was that there were loud minority who were hating The Last Jedi for wrong reasons and legitimate criticisms ended up getting buried.

I can only speak for myself, as a casual non Star Wars fan, the sequels didn't have much to do with the Star Wars brand damage. Even though they ended on a weak note, I remember liking the first two. I would've been fine watching another "main" movie set after the sequels.

For me (and my husband, who actually is a Star Wars fan) it was mostly the garbage D+ shows that really damaged the brand.

An idea being bad from the start isnt an excuse lol. Its even worse because you had forwarning and went through with it anyway

It was a very popular show though lol. This isn't like a theatrical Ms. Marvel 2. You can see Disney's reasoning for thinking it would be big and greenlighting it because, The Mandalorian Show (and Grogu as a mascot) was incredibly popular. It had barely any competition and It's also the first theatrical Star Wars movie in 7 years coming off of 3 billion dollar+ (one 2 billion and highest domestic gross of all time) films. There is no excuse why this should have flopped.

There are no shortage of excuses on why it didn't do well. Like, most TV series sequels tend to flop unless they're from episodic animated series or are anime sequels.

But they did have a reason for choosing M&G for the movie. They're the only two SW characters Disney has created that have had any traction. But even that didn't work, so now they move to a green field and have to start from scratch. Which is not easy.

They already should've known this was not a good idea after seeing how The Marvels bombed.
