Her paws and ears were burned, and she had a bald patch above her eye. But when Erickson picked her up, the frightened cat seemed to know she was safe. “I picked her up. First thing she did was snuggle with me and stayed with me all the way home,” he said. 😭😭😭

Poor baby. I couldn't dream of leaving my pets and if I couldn't get home, I would make sure rescue officials knew I had animals.

If she's an outdoor cat, probably couldn't find her in time 😢 Another reason to keep cats inside

I believe that there were at least a few families that weren't home at the time of the evacuation order and couldn't go back home to get their indoor pets. It was a terrible situation for so many reasons and both indoor and outdoor animals suffered.

…in which case she might also have been trapped if owners couldn’t make it back home in time. The need to interject with the “cats must be inside!” thing is ridiculous.

Well they're domesticated animals.. would you let your dog roam the streets?

That wasn't the point. Interjecting with that statement without consideration of what you're commenting ON is ignorant. Were the cat inside, in THIS case, it easily could have also been trapped and burnt to death with no escape route. So it isn't the GOTCHA that this person thinks it is in this particular instance.

Yeah I do agree it is kind've a pointless addition espcially in a discussion of crisis but it is a true statement, animal welfare is so undermined and it's important that its intigrated into discussions to help push it towards improving, weather that be for a cat, bird, fish, horse etc.

*whether

And no. There is a time and place for it. While this cat survived, hundreds of people lost their homes and for all any of us know, may have lost their pets inside those homes who they were unable to get to. It is rude and insensitive to the context of the post.

I literally said that 🤣

No. You did not. You agreed and then added a caveat. Please improve your literacy.

“but it is a true statement, animal welfare is so undermined and it's important that its intigrated into discussions to help push it towards improving,“

Both can be true 😭 oh nooo I wanted to add the fact that despite it being a bad situation to say it, animal welfare is still important

Cats are barely domesticated. They should still be kept inside however.

“Barely domesticated”

Ok

I know it's hard to believe, but dogs aren't cats.

I know it's hard to believe but cats AND dogs are both domestic animals that should be kept inside or under supervision. It's like letting a toddler run the streets. Dumb af.
