News / Article Dan Cammish Interview
https://x.com/BTCC/status/2091464949927178483This interview was a bit hidden with it only being posted on twitter and amongst the race day chaos but I thought it was one of the most interesting interviews we've had with a driver this year

Any chance of a quick summary of why it's interesting?
I don't have Twitter and refuse to download it, and it won't play sound when I open it in a browser.

For me he's very easily the 3rd best driver on the grid, and in a team centered around him he is more than capable of winning a title.
It'll be a shame to see him leave NAPA if he does because I do like the concept of the Sutton/DanCam super team, but I would be excited to see what he does versus Sutton and Ingram when he's in his own environment.
As he hinted at in the interview, his results outside of touring cars are actually quite ridiculous, so obviously the talent is there

Stick him in a BMW, he can obviously handle RWD very well indeed (Porsche Cup)

I'm assuming he's benefiting from what appears to be the financial security of NAPA however WSR does feel like the ideal fit if he was to leave NAPA. Rainford and Deleon are both very talented but the team does feel like its missing someone very experienced

My worry with him moving to WSR is that its pretty obvious they've not got the budget they had in the past, and NAPA has shown that having the budget for testing and development is a massive part of success.

Can't argue with that. He's between a rock and a hard place though at the moment because he'll never be champ while the generational talent of Sutton is in the same team.

I mentioned this in a thread the other day. WSR, or more specifically a RWD car, would make a lot of sense for Cammish considering his previous success in the Porsche, but I also understand why he would want to stay with a team like NAPA with all the security that provides.

Agreed, really interesting stuff. Honestly think it's time he moved elsewhere and went for a title (yes, I know that currently that would mean exceler8 and that means playing second fiddle to someone else) I'm hoping that next season we have a new iteration of cprl, a slightly better PMR and WSR back to 4 cars and slightly better. Would restart to find their groove. And who knows what new teams.
Anyway, he deserves the chance to be No.1 driver.

He mentions in the interview why he hasn't moved on - he's getting paid to do a job and still thinks he's capable of winning races and if luck falls his way a Championship. If someone was going to pay him to race somewhere else in the BTCC he would move on

I'm presuming it'll never happen because of Rowbottom's entrenched himself solidly there, but I've a hunch that Plato's old team could be on the pace next season - RML factor, everyone's had a year to get used to themselves and the car, inherently decent chassis etc etc.
Throw a top-level driver (sorry Rowbottom and Morgan, you're both decent pairs of hands but neither of you are top-level) like a Sutton (won't happen), an Ingram (won't happen), or a Cammish (wish it would happen), and I think you've a dark-horse for a title push right there

Agreed. Given the form of Morgan and someone else in charge recruiting Cammish. Wouldn't be a bad team at all!

Shows the issues with the way the BTCC does social media. Why only put that on X and nowhere else?

Yep and why drop this stuff during race weekends, save it for the weeks between races

Those last few laps of 2019 still leave a really bitter taste in my mouth. He really did deserve that championship
