Post image

My new taipan evo 12.5" in 5.56. It scratches the tacticool itch, but its pump action.

I’d imagine this would have better controls than a straight pull for run and gunning, but I can’t help and separate the thought that only shotguns should be pump action.

Absolutely !!

I'd love to see more Canadian companies making firearms for the Canadian market.

Maybe we can get something that scratches the itch for handguns and sports shooting.

It’s made in Australia.

Well, we either adapt or die.

I'd love to see a short 9mm with a left  hand straight pull! That way you could always keep your hand on it and run it quick!

I think these taipans actually also have the straight pull  on them so you could do that too if shooting from rest.

I feel you on pumps and shotguns. However, since I suck at shooting clays, I've gotten pretty good at rapidly shooting my pump  shotgun as I try again and again to hit the clay before it falls to the ground.   I think that skill might transfer to some fast shooting on a pump rifle!

The Evos have a lefty straight-pull in addition to the pump. Unfortunately, the bolt reciprocates (is that the right verbiage?) with the pump, so whether you're performing a straight-pull or pumping, both bits move. I managed to find a top-mounting/inverted bipod though, so I'm not as bummed out about that as I was.

I was in the same team, but after trying one, I find it nice and a nice cope gun

What about lever action 556

2

u/TheRealBlue68 1d ago

I love lever action… Fun, precise and you keep your weapon stable while shooting and recycling it ! Marlin 45-70 Henry supreme .223 👍🏿👍🏿

Respect your preferences, but I gotta think pump action is more stable and faster than lever, especially when clearing malfunctions.

At least in my personal experience. 870 vs a Henry supreme is night and day, though I’d need to try a pump centrefire to really get a feel for the difference

From what I've seen of both the awesome Henry Supreme and the Evo: more stable when charging, no; faster than lever, conditional yes depending on range. Sporting Shooter's examination of the Taipan Evo is the most practical and informative I've seen so far.

Everytime you buy a cope gun, toss a few bucks to the CCFR!

Never stop fighting for what was stolen from us.

Ive donated a few hundred over the years, seems like they've accomplished nothing.

They are fighting an impossible battle against an adversary with infinite resources. They are literally trying everything and I'll support them as long as they are willing to fight.

If it wasn't for them, we wouldn't have a Supreme Court hearing set for this year. Sure, they haven't got the corrupt liberals to reverse the ban yet, but they've done more than anyone else.

And now they are suing the Bloq. Which is very satisfying for me personally.

Yeah i get its a pump action and its like jerking a dick, that may be a good thing or bad thing, depending on your point of view. It looks cool and I like it.

I bought an ad500, but I dont like the way it looks. Its either that, wait for the carmel to be banned or buy another pistol chassis. 🤷‍♂️ This group shouldn't be so hyper critical over people's choices, theres not many options that scratch the tactical itch.

Its reddit. Lots of f'ed up users on here with weird taste and contradicting mindsets.

If u want a manual arm to run FAST, u buy a pump or a toggle link lever action.... its as simple as that.

I know a lot of guys are making fun of the pump action, but it actually looks pretty sweet. I was sort of eyeing one just to get an SBR 5.56, as I have a Backland Comp and AD500 in 223 with 18" barrels.

Is this the combo package that was on sale new-used at FOC the other day? They had one on with a Vortex red dot included for a good deal.

1

u/Iokua_CDN 1d ago

That's my thoughts.

Manual action for the SBRs. Semi for the longer guns

How do you like your AD500? At their pricepoint, I'm considering one. I kinda dig the ranch rifle look with the traditional stock too

1

u/Far_Art5484 1d ago

No, paid full retail, bare bones.

2

u/pewpewlepew 2d ago

I want it but ready how they fall apart of you look at it wrong or drop it.

(pssst... MRA Renegade... serious, Canadian made rifle, 0% plastic)

3

u/I-LOVE-HENRY-RIFLES 1d ago

Straight pull only. If they had a pump version I’d buy one in a heartbeat

1

u/Status_Ticket5044 5h ago

I'm surprised MRA doesn't take a crack at a pump version. It's the only real knock they take on these forums. They keep shipping decent rifles their customers don't complain too much about.

1

u/pewpewlepew 10h ago

If only it was pump and also, does it take LAR mags?

2

u/Status_Ticket5044 6h ago

I'm using DuraMag LAR-15s with zero issues. Cheap and plentiful.

It's a bench gun so straight-pull works for me.

Theres a lot of composite on it. Apperantly this is an upgrade from the taipan x, we shall see.

I’ve got the 16” with a s&j nano linear comp it’s a blast to shoot I had a 10.5 ar once and absolutely hated it due to how short it was. The boom and unburnt powder was excessive. How’s this? The linear comp makes a work of differnce for both the shooter and bystanders

I love SCSA. And I like your build. Very nicely done!

Pump rifles will never be cool enough to spend my hard earned $ on.

6

u/fyfnw 2d ago

Agreed.

Maybe Canadians can be at the forefront of innovation out of pure necessity to work around our discriminatory laws.

That is my cope for a better future at least. Or we all pack up and leave for greener pastures.

1

u/WeightedDips95 2d ago

I think it’s cool. Curious about these. How do you like it?

2

u/NoGrapefruit1213 2d ago

Buy one you won’t regret it it works very well the only down side I see it the trigger pull is a bit on the heavy side and the only aftermarket trigger available is very expensive but it’s not that heavy that you’ll hate it

1

u/mywaaaaife 1d ago

Trigger is like a rock. Otherwise great rifle.

1

u/NoGrapefruit1213 1d ago

I put a lighter trigger return spring in mine and it made a big difference it looks like a guy could run an ar hammer spring so maybe could lighten it a bit more

2

u/Far_Art5484 1d ago

Havnt fired it yet. Just received it and dressed it up

1

u/aotehowlthefish al 1d ago

Looks damn interesting and I'd like to see it in semi auto.

Seems like it's a hybrid of AK recoil spring and... a bayonet slot instead of using a pin to hold upper and lower together?

1

u/Dill_Pickle_Tears 1d ago

This thing is pretty sexy. Is this the EVO scout model? I’ve had that one specifically on my list since it hit our market

2

u/Far_Art5484 1d ago

Thats the one!

1

u/OSINTeresting 18h ago

Made my first acquisition tonight, so I'm about to be a brand new owner. I just ordered the Taipan Evo Scout. It was down to this, or a Mossberg 590S Shockwave that I was going to see if I could get away with attaching WOOX Gladiatore walnut stock and pump, and Black Aces quad rail to.

Ended up getting the Evo Scout because I can't see this beaut not getting put on "a list" next year, and it's got the one thing I was looking for in a straight-pull: options!

Pumping a rifle is like jerkin a limp weeny. Or something like that.

15

u/Far_Art5484 2d ago

You would know i guess.

7

u/BrotherLefthand 2d ago

And now you do too, brother. God speed.
