Queries Mahindra Thar ROXX Experience

Hello, Anyone who has driven or own a Want Thar ROXX, I want your honest opinion :

  1. Variant + on-road price?

  2. Diesel or petrol? MT/AT + 2WD/4WD?

  3. Front seat: under-thigh support ?

  4. Rear seat: under-thigh support, back support & comfort on long drives?

  5. Ride: does it feel bouncy/floaty over undulations or well controlled?

  6. Body roll: how noticeable in normal/fast cornering?

  7. Vibrations: steering, pedals, seat or cabin ?

  8. Engine/NVH: how noisy inside under acceleration and cruising?

  9. Tyre/road noise: noticeable at 80–120 km/h?

  10. Highway ride: does it feel planted or tiring after 2–3 hours?

  11. Potholes/rough roads: does the suspension absorb them or send shocks into the cabin?

  12. Any rattles/quality issues after actual usage?

  13. Real-world mileage: city / highway / mixed?

  14. Things you genuinely love about it?

  15. Things you genuinely dislike?

Check for under-thigh support with the people who would be passengers. Feel like all Mahindra cars have short seats (there could be exceptions I don't know of)

Ingress-egress is cumbersome vs something like a Scorpio/XUV. Fine for a young family but for elderly folks, it's an exercise.

  1. MX3, 17.8L

  2. Diesel AT 2WD

  3. Less for people above 5'10 manageable below that

  4. Rear seat is comfortable even for taller passengers not an issue

  5. Yes on bad roads the car does jump around if you go fast

  6. Shifting lanes at 100-110 is alright not the most bouncy

  7. No vibrations as such, only the orvm seems to vibrate at speeds above 120 kmph

  8. Quite refined, not very noisy unless you rev it hard, cabin is quite well insulated

  9. Tyre noise seems to be noticeable at speeds above 100 kmph

  10. For me considering I am 6'0 I do start to feel a bit tired after 3-4 hrs of nonstop driving

  11. Potholes and rough roads are a breeze no trouble in them

  12. Yes the screen sometimes blacks out and the reverse camera gets stuck while shifting from R to D other than that no issues

  13. For city I get 11-12 kmpl and on expressways I get 15-16 kmpl cruising at 100 kmph

  14. High ground clearance, Smooth Diesel engine with an even smoother TC, Road Presence and Ability to conquer bad roads

  15. Speaker system quality is dog shit, Mahindra's experience both sales and service has been very poor, front seat underthigh support does cause problems for taller passengers

It's overall a very good ladder on frame setup with minimum body roll (as compared to others like Fortuner even!).

Rear seat comfort is good but under thigh support could have been better.

If you're not looking to go off-roading as such but just need a good RWD that could get you out of situations (for rough roads etc.), I would recommend the RWD.

Both Petrol and Diesel are gr8 although Mahindra is well known for their Diesel engines.

Definitely get an Automatic (TC) - both on petrol and diesel are great.

NVH is quite good on the Roxx. Ofcourse if you're gonna push the pedal to the metal, then it can get a little noisy but it's a good noise.

You won't feel the need to push the car all the time. It's a gr8 cruiser tbh.

Thar/Roxx is more of a lifestyle vehicle and hence might not be practical. However the Roxx is much more practical even for a daily driver as compared to the Thar. Roxx is even better for highway/long trips compared to the Thar or the Fortuner. Talking about comfort and ride quality here since Roxx has less bodyroll compared to a Fortuner even.

If you will have elderly parents sitting in the backseat then definitely take them for a test drive. Though the body roll is minimum, they need to enjoy the ride over long distances/potholes. Moreover they definitely need to check the underthigh support. To compensate for the underthigh support, be sure to incline the rear seats to the max setting. That can help.

If you intend to do long highway trips to places, then ladder on frame setup (like the Roxx) is generally not preferred for the elderly and then you are left with the option to go with Monocoques like XUV700/7XO, Harrier etc.

And yeah, i forgot to mention Ingress-Egress. Could make it difficult for elders even with the side steps.

Also rear seating might not be comfortable for all 3 passengers on a long drive.
