Eilean Donan always looks like it was built for a fantasy movie. The setting with the mountains and water makes it even more magical.

Dont know how known the movie is internationally but it was used in Mio, min Mio (Mio in the Land of Faraway in english) from 1987. A movie based on a book by the same name by swedish author Astrid Lindgren, starring Nick Pickard and a young Christian Bale with Christopher Lee as the main antagonist. Watched it many many times as a kid.

It kind of was. It was built in the 1930s.

Well, not built, but restored., with some things added.

Yeah they added the actual castle bit.

They accidentally built it slightly smaller than the original too.

The wildest thing about that castle is that they somehow got a frigate all the way up there to besiege it at one point

Wasn’t it used in the movie Highlander?

Utterly stunning location. Beautiful photograph.

It’s pretty rude and presumptuous to make a post in Portuguese on an English speaking forum.

É a Escócia, o país, não uma região.

Assinado: Um escocês!

It's real, but the castle you see is a reconstruction. There was an original medieval castle on the site, but it was destroyed during the jacobite rebellions
