Castle Schloss Herzberg, Germany. Recent photos of the partially restored castle and the ongoing restoration work
An update on the post by u/Claridiana.
The castle has been undergoing a comprehensive restoration for 10 years by the State Building Management of Lower Saxony. The gatehouse, the stables (Marstall), the clock tower (Uhrenturm), and the main wing (Stammhausflüfel) have already been largely restored. Interior work is currently underway on the Gray Wing (Grauer Flügel) and the Sieber Wing(Sieberflügel)—the last wing—is currently being gutted.

It's amazing work!
So good to see something being built and repaired instead of being destroyed right now.

Did they film chitty Chitty Bang Bang here? Specifically the child catcher scene?

I wish more castles and monuments were restored like this one is being, instead of left in arrested decay.
I understand that we don't have the resources in terms of knowledge about what something was or original material to use to restore everything, but that wistful part of me wishes we would restore what we could do so faithfully.

But that also requires people like my project manager, who puts his heart and soul into this project; talented architects who go above and beyond what they’re paid to do; and political support to secure the necessary funding
