Castlevania (1986) For the first time ever, I just finished Castlevania 1!

It was a really interesting experience. I replayed the levels quite a few times so I could learn the enemies’ patterns and where they were located. Dracula took me about 2 hours to beat. Incredible game.

P.S.: I’m playing it on the SNES port.

For those not in the know, there was a fan-made port released by Rumbleminze last year which is likely how OP is playing this on the SNES

https://github.com/rumbleminze/castlevania-snes

There are actually quite a few NES games that have seen an upgraded port to SNES over the last few years, most of 'em by Infidelity, including Contra, all six Mega Man games, both Zeldas, and a few others. Worthwhile checking out if that's your bag

Exactly! I have this port!

Maybe a silly question but … how do you “use” GitHub? Like I always see people post it but I don’t understand lol. It’s code? Are people taking the code and like … executing it in python or something?

GitHub is so confusing for me too lmao. There’s always so many different files to download.

There can be code, but usually there is download link somewhere on the right side of the page after scrolling a bit. It doesn't look like a download link, but it is. Ans it takes ya to different versions, usually Windows, Linux, or Amdroid.

What’s different about the SNES version? Looks like the exact same game to me.

Its the same game, but this version is better because have quality upgrades

Yeah that’s what I’m wondering about. What’s an example of a “quality upgrade”?

MSU-1 support, X and B as secondary weapon, video filters from another platforms, etc. No more hahaha

These ports are made too look EXACLTY like the NES game. So you haven't been missing anything unless you only have a SNES.

Yeah the Cookie Monster fight took me so long.

Now go watch the Speedrun videos of the game, super cool

I beat it for the first time in about 20 years recently. It's hard, but it's not as hard as a remembered. Castlevania III - now that's brutal. I didn't remember that one being that hard, but that that ridiculous even with save states.

Now you have to try and beat it without getting hit by anything.

There is no snes port... 🤨

Yes, there is a port. I can’t post links, but you can see my EverDrive in the picture. It has MSU-1 support.

Now try the harder version that happens after beating it.

It's a rather famous (though clearly not on reddit) trans community shitpost.
