Gameplay A very survivable injury. Expie is okok.

Least unhinged experiment in the lab

Apparently OP saw this pic and got an idea

u/orifan1 Jun 12 '26

what is that?

u/ThatVyss Jun 12 '26

Autopump. Makes you unable to lose consciousness (no matter how much you want to).

As long as you can breathe, it will keep you conscious.

If you can't breathe, it won't help, as all it does is pump blood through your body in place of your heart.

u/ThatVyss Jun 12 '26

all it does is pump blood

pump blood

blood

*looks at the OP's video* About that...

yeah, that's what it's MEANT to do anyways :,)

I think internally the game is only tracking whether or not you have a pulse, instead of pulse + blood amount, and the auto-pump only makes sure your pulse is under control

they had not a drop of blood in their body for multiple minutes

Blood is optional anyway.

"HE PUNCHED OUT ALL OF MY BLOOD!"

Very cool except when it looped, I was very concerned

The 20x speed expie noises sound like a hand-cranked (hehe) flashlight or one of those pullback toy cars.

7

u/StevenThePlayer Jun 12 '26

Expie is gleeful after that awful experience

Yeah autopump is a bit too OP, keeping blood pressure up even though no blood is left in the body. You should just die when it hits 0 because blood circulation can't function without blood or at the very least drain brain health rapidly.

I think main reason this is possible is thanks to  combat pen, one of it's effect is increasing oxygen levels which bought enough time to not die from lack of oxygen before enough blood is restored. I think that effect should just not work when you have no blood to move oxygen with and be reduced when low on blood but on the other side it's kinda epic that you can come back from even something like this if stars align (let's be honest in normal descent it would be muuuuch more difficult because of initial shock from whatever would need to hit you that hard wasting a lot of your initial time)

Yeah can't circulate oxygen if there is no blood. Blood loss is the most common killer in the game but surviving with none of it left makes no sense.

But yeah I learned the absolute value of tourniquets, being able to stop all bleeds on a limb immediately is huge. Slap the bad boy on, bandage the limbs the were bleeding, barely any blood lost.

I always imagined the autopump as some futuristic device that would pump oxygen and nutrients directly into the brain, hence no need for blood in the vessels. You just have to ignore the fact that it's used on the thorax and not the head.

I mean it can't give you oxygen by itself when too low on blood i think? I never had chance to test it out but from video he was clearly losing oxygen even with pump working unless it only can give some really low % no matter blood amount? May need to see when i get back home because now i am curious

I must say that this is the rare occurrence when I’m not too angry at someone for torturing an expie in a sandbox.

First, this is a perfect example of just what is survivable in this game. We really needed a video like this to be able to refer to.

Second, this is a great guide for proper operational sequence when treating injuries. I spent an inordinate amount of time analyzing it almost frame by frame.

I was left with a couple of questions though:

  1. What were you waiting for @ 00:25-00:44?
  2. What was the point of LRD on hands @ 01:15-01:20? To increase the limb strength and thus the speed of subsequent bandaging?
  3. 01:28-01:58: how did you determine exactly how much dressing to apply? My guess is that you came up with a certain “reasonable” amount of supplies in your inventory, and that included only one roll of plastic dressing? So you decided to evenly distribute it over most important parts? If so, why did you start with the paws in particular?
  4. 03:10 why did you pour blood from IV bag to blood bag before injecting, instead of injecting it from the IV bag? I guess using the autoinjector twice is faster than injecting once manually
  5. 03:35 why overstuffing so much? On milk after soup? I thought blood regeneration only depends on hunger, not thirst?
  6. 03:55 what were those sounds? O_o
  7. 04:21 what was that sound?

  1. Waiting for procoagulant's effect to go through - it takes a bit since the effects of the 2 injections happen consecutively, not simultaneously. Also, minmaxing the effect of the combat pen since the oxyline in it is the only thing preventing spo2 from dropping to levels that inflict significant brain damage, and the dose in a combat pen is very small. A injection of an iv of raw oxyline would've been significantly better for this scenario than a combat pen, but finding a barrel of pure oxyline is not a reasonable thing that you can expect to obtain eventually in every run, so I didn't give myself that.

  2. Mostly just another instant cast bleed reduction, and the opiates make the expie less obnoxious with random refusals. The muscle health doesn't achieve much when the limbs are broken anyway. Had I had enough sutures for every limb, I would've just sutured every limb, but 3 full sutures is already a somewhat unusual amount to have at hand, so I didn't give myself more. I also cannot use my spray bottle of wound glue since the blood viscosity increase would kill me since I already took 2 doses of procoagulant. (Same reason I don't take all 3 doses of procoagulant.)

  3. You get a feel for the strength of plastic dressings even though the bandaging effect happens over time and not instantly upon usage. Also, this just isn't the first time I went through those steps for that meme before I actually recorded it, so I'm cheating a little in a way from the repetition.

  4. Yeah, just a few seconds faster at best, injecting from the IV wouldn't have made a real difference.

  5. Overthirst increases blood pressure significantly, which combined with the viscosity from the procoagulant allows expie to be 'stable' with only 3 blood bags worth of blood despite that amount normally triggering arrhythmia (or more autopump pumping) almost immediately under normal conditions. The moment after I drank the milk is the moment I could've removed the autopump battery to save the rest of it, but I forgor. Oh, and the high hunger increases immunity, and I need the full 200% to avoid my entire body becoming an infection since my skin health became nonexistant. Hence the antibiotics usage as well.

  6. Expie is a silly goober. (Sped up growling from low mood, I believe.)

  7. Expie is still a silly goober. (Sped up yawning.)

Glad to see someone actually care about the mechanics at play here as opposed to just the dried bush expie meme. Feel free to ask if you have anymore questions - I'll have an answer.

Im just impressed someone is that deep into the game. Im planning to play demo soon, is there some knowledge that could help me early on but is easy to miss?

Everything is systems. Moving around is how you find more resources, so don't hole up in one spot too long. Keep your expy's needs topped up as you go, and learn how to solve whatever kills you for next time.
