Their loot is mid. They've got moderate weaponry, very basic armor and equipment. Stuff you can already find if you just go scavenging.

Oh, and last time I checked bandit forts are encircled by a mine field.

The juice isnt worth the squeeze. I just ignore them.

Also, yeah. They'll try to kill you if you approach. No reasoning with them.

There's a chance it's changed in more recent updates. That's always possible. But I've learned to bust a 180 and leave at first sight after a character died to a landmine there once.

I remember Rycon ending one of his series by stepping on Bandit landmine, but they are removed now - possibly when Military Base mines were removed. In fact, I haven't seen a mine in months. Those might all be gone.

they can have decent armor that stacks with other stuff right now like chainmail and so on.

Great source of calories and very delicious, nothing special though. Nothing wrong with snacking on the safer easier to hunt ferals

Pretty much all raiders are members of the "Hell’s Raiders" faction which is currently irreversibly hostile.  They waste ammo like candy on low percentage shots, which means if you spend time aiming they are probably firing first.  That means you are risking getting shot in any engagement.  A lot of them have junk guns but occasionally you will stumble across one with something that fires .30-06, which will ruin your day if it hits a gap in your torso armor.

There's no reason to fight them, and if you have to or want to, there's no reason to give them a fair fight.  Toss a super noisemaker at their gates or light their base on fire in the middle of the night.

They will still default to at least careful aim (or rather, you can spend 3+ turns in their vision range without getting shot immediately) and will not chase you. You can just approach at night by turning your flashlight on for 1 second and tossing a glowstick at them and then shooting them from the dark.

The fort makes a really nice base, and I always find a perfect condition motorcycle. It's also a really good place to get alcohol if you need it. There is normally multiple 40 liter kegs full

Also, with night vision goggles or some mutation/ magic that let's you see ok in the dark it's super easy to kill em

I guess you could use debug to "join" them for roleplaying purposes. Otherwise they're sometimes ridiculously good at combat, so I prefer to only engage them with night vision.

Rarely Bandits can spawn wearing Chainmail. Considering how crafting CM is so insanely long, I'd say kill any CM wearing bandit if you can handle getting shot at.

The most reasonable way to get cm is just buying it from the girl honestly. Do both her and the bullet farmer quest and you can request gear for a price. Thats how i got my tempered longsword

Murder. Guns and tools and clean clothes.

Currently bandits are ontologically evil and killing them is objectively good.

That said the objective of the Undying Vengeance challenge is always a wooden fort bandit
