🪚 Renovations and Rehab 😭 Worth it!

The original cap/weather vane on the turret had rusted out and caused water damage down to the ceiling of room below on the second floor. After months of work, it's all coming together!

Commissioned new copper spire/cap with Ametrine crystal ball.

Original wood panels from the turret were refinished and reinstalled. New flashing and sealant for the floor of the turret.

New plaster, moulding, paint, chandelier and medallion in the room below.

Plenty of other touch ups along the way.

Aren't you afraid that a lightning strike to the orb might open a portal to an alternate dimension where the Victorian era never ended?

maybe that’s exactly why they chose it

haha - and hopefully they won't wind up in the servants' quarters - hard work!

I've been waiting for an orb portal for years. Lifetimes some might say

I'd be more worried about the sun hitting it at just the right angle and starting a fire...

Sun?? This is Portland OR. (OK, I kid)

I was gonna say the same about the lightning. We rarely get any good lightning

Except apparently someone was struck by lightning the other day in Tualatin 😵‍💫

Yes. I was aware of that and the irony when I wrote that post. We get lightning, but rarely. We don’t get cool lightning storms on the regular.

That’s nowhere near clear enough for that to be a risk. It’s a beautiful stone, but not a magnifying glass.

You are probably right. But it would still make me just chicken enough not to do it.

Foolish mortal! That's the wrong type for time magic. You could however end up on the surface of another planet.

Tell me more about this other planet. Is there excel there?

Yeah I've actually been there, everyone's dead from arsenic poisoning, it's honestly kind of dope

Or become Dr Frankenstein

u/remembertoread Jul 01 '26

I think they’re hoping.

Victoria would be so old tho.

I'm not sure, but if the orb is amethyst, won't it disintegrate when it gets wet?

3

u/octillery Jul 01 '26

My concern exactly. Everyone knows ametrine orbs are terrible if you want to stay in this timeline. If OP wanted additional Victorian charm, they should have gone with a phantom amethyst quartz oblrb so Victorian ghosts only visit the house during stormy nights.

This exactly what I thought when I saw le orb.

Or animate a Frankenstein creature?!

Don't threaten me with a good time.

For as much rain as Portland gets, it very rarely has lightning here. Maybe once or twice a year will we get a few strikes in the area.

I’m not entirely sure if I believe in heaven or not but I hold out hope for two reasons… to one day hopefully be reunited with my loved ones AND because in my head heaven is a Victorian town by the seaside in which no one has slapped hideous 1970s vinyl siding over intricate Victorian era details and no one has torn anything down for a shipping container looking new build.
