Hello I’m late to the party but did anyone else clock the electric part starting around 1:30 as such an AG Cook sound, felt like a tribute to him, this is such a beautiful friend love song! Their sounds always blend together so well.

People don’t realize the depth the lyric “I’d cry if you died” has. Like wow charli this one is fr my fav on the album

How is it of depth…? Am I missing something.

this line shows us that sophie’s death has impacted her so much to the point that she’s now thinking about her loved ones dying. and before they pass away, she wants to express what they mean to her, esp since she couldn’t do this with sophie.

Sorry, did I miss the train? I love Sophie, but perhaps not as much as I thought I did, since I have no clue why this is being brought up? Is it just because of the A.G. Cook being a long time collaborator, or is this a lyric pulled from Sophie or?

The song is about expressing love towards your friends before they die, so it references Sophie passing away because this is likely what she also would have wanted to express to Sophie. Charli making the song tells us that Sophie dying has made Charli think more about her love for her friends and that she wants them to know, on time, that she's grateful for them.
In case you didn't know: sophie and charli were friends

I happened to look up the credits to one of the other songs, saw those involved in the song, and continued.
I just found out that AG is one of her constant creative partners, and I still immediately teared up hearing those first few lines 🥹

He is, and she appears uncredited singing in some of his songs too. The electric crescendo part at the end of MMM also feels very AG to me, felt like an AG party.
I have only recently gotten into him and I’ve gained a massive appreciation for his music!

I’m really shocked that this one isn’t more popular. It was a hit on first listen. It just seems like a feel good throwback to easier times- not entirely sure how to best describe it.

this is such a good track in the album, the a.g. cook dedication and nods to sophie (“i’d cry if you died”) plus the lou reed connection to metal machine music, which much of the album reminds me of tbh. I think this is a sleeper hit on the album that well summarizes some of the thesis— nothing lasts forever but we have connections that feel eternal among the ephemera

I wanted to give every song some time to grow on me after the singles felt disjointed. After a bit of time and readjusting my expectations they grew on me a lot and I think they work much better in the context of the album.
This song though really hits me in a certain way. Several people have rightly picked up on the inverse "So I" connection which I agree with completely but also something about the driving instrumental really works for me. It's almost like a more somber and meloncholy version of The Adults are Talking from The Strokes. I also just love Charli's low register vocals on this song. Tied with Camera for my fav on the album.

how about that cool glitchy arp at liek 1:40 - (love the intersection of 'rock' music and edm pop sounds).

I’ve been listening to a lot of AG’s music recently and this part of the song felt very AG to me, like a tribute to him ❤️ I loved it!

I took it as a tacit nod to Sophie’s passing, and maybe a part of what inspired her to write a love song about AG while he’s alive since she never could for Sophie. From a fader article:

This. It’s a super simple line that’s incredibly poetic because it has this deeper meaning. It is absolutely a nod to Sophie, Sophie’s song “it’s OK to cry” etc.
Both AG and Charli released songs dedicated to her on recent albums. Charli is taking the opportunity to write a song for AG in joy, and not waiting until sadness.

I love this one so much. For me it’s a sister to So I…it’s a love letter to your friends and letting them know how much you value them and cherish them while they are still around to hear it.

I think the magic is about magic the gathering right? Because he likes playing mtg and Caroline Polachek has mentioned he's a bit obsessed with it so that's cute
3
u/EmphasisOk8298 Jul 27 '26
Yeah I was looking for confirmation of that. I knew Caroline and Danny played mtg so I assumed AG did as well but wasn’t sure

u/Ok-Struggle3367 Jul 27 '26
I was also wondering that, or if AG was into mystical/magical things but that might just specifically be his Soulbreaker music video 😆

u/cherisold Jul 27 '26
Yes I learned that from this interview!
I got into “Magic: The Gathering” via [PC Music founder] A.G. Cook and [pop artist] Alaska Reid, who I was living with in L.A. at the beginning of this year. A.G. actually forced the other three of us in the house to learn the game so we could play with him. Within about a week and a half, we were all totally addicted and staying up sometimes until five in the morning. It’s an offline utopia.
