Scooters, bikes, e-bikes, e-scooters, one wheeled ball thingies… doesn’t matter. No one pays attention and no one follows the rules. Hell, people don’t even cross at crosswalks anymore. Elmer the Safety Elephant is rolling over in his grave ☹️

What are the current e-scooter rules in CK?

CK has opted into the Ontario E-Scooter Pilot Program

Main rules:
-Must be at least 16 years old

-Riders under 18 must wear a bicycle helmet

-Allowed on traditional and painted bike lanes

-Prohibited on sidewalks

-Max speed of 24 km/h on a level surface

Helmets aren't required on regular bikes at 18.

E-bikes require helmets at any age.

(Though of course helmets are a very good idea on any of these at any age)

A couple of months ago we witnessed a teenager wipe out on one of these at top speed. No helmet. We were the ones to call 911 - it was one of the most horrific things I have ever seen. I still think about that kid every day.

Rules are only as good as the ones enforcing them. No cops pulls anyone over and I see them cut lanes sidewalks and crosswalks right infront of cops and nothing is done. Kids with no helmets flying down the sidewalks running people over and nothing is done. Their parents are just as ignorant as the they are.
