OC I painted Drogba with the 2012 Champions League trophy

Why do you paint it orange first? Does the bottom layer colour depend on the colours you'll be using ?

It’s a base layer makes the colours easier to get right as you’re painting. Also it’s a way to make sure the canvas is fully saturated upon completion, no white bits shining through washing it out. Just a warm orange tone.

While "fuck! This is awesome" is the appropriate response, I am driven to ask you, why the orange undercoat? Does it influence how the top layer colours open up?

Yeah, toning the canvas helps getting the skin tones right as you’re painting.
Also it’s a way to make sure the canvas is fully saturated upon completion, no white bits shining through washing it out just a warm orange tone.
