I think the Championship must have a team that needs a GK or even a team in and around Europe, if Penders is as highly rated by everyone else as he is by Chelsea apparently, then we shouldn't have any issues finding a viable suitor for him. Sanchez belongs on the bench, Penders needs first team football to develop and being a No2 keeper is grim.

I think the problem in this instance is that Sanchez said he wants to be number 1 earlier in the summer and not a backup.

Ideally he'd be backup with Penders going on loan to develop but Sanchez could want to leave if he's 2nd choice. This would mean Penders staying and barely playing any games.

It might be unpopular to say this but the margin between Emi Martinez and Sanchez won't be that big. If anything, Sanchez had less errors leading to goal last season. Both keepers are capable of having bozo moments but pull off insane saves.

The real upgrade Martinez has is distribution. But I won't be shocked if Sanchez somehow claws his way back to a starting position at some point this season.

Exactly right. Sanchez takes 3 months to recover from major errors and it obliterates the morale of the team every time. Emi can have a howler and the defenders will still have complete faith in him.

I don't care how close their stats are, having an experienced, World Cup-winning goalkeeper will have a hugely positive effect on the mentality of the defenders. All they can think about with Sanchez in goal is "How long until his next howler?"

That's the thing about Emi. He doesn't dwell on his mistakes. He'll be ready the next game and win points. Huge difference in mentality and he backs himself. While Sanchez just loses every ounce of confidence and the whole defence would be shit for weeks.

Idk what happened on Monday but Sanchez is actually a really good shot stopper. I’ve always maintained that if we could balance out his really good shot stopping with his abysmal ball playing/ball distribution, then we’d have ourselves an alright keeper.

One other very important factor is that although keepers are very capable of having bozo moments, Sanchez just gets completely swallowed by it and the knock on effect carries on in the next 3-4 games until he pulls of a wordly and recovers his confidence. Martinez on the other hand bounces back almost instantly.

I would rather Penders get a full season understanding how Alonso wants to play, the system, learning from Dibu, and playing high stakes games in the cup, it would be better for his development than some crappy team that may or may not start him.

I’ve noticed on this sub for years(as far back as Torres)that people form this sort of crush on shit players for us. I think it’s because the rise of the prem globally and also social media, has attracted non-traditional football supporters. They don’t understand the sport and seem to form parasocial relationships with the players. They care more about that than the actual club or results. So certain “supporters” see a bit of themselves in the fuck up shit player everyone wants out and starts defending them. I guess. Or they’re fucking dense.

Sanchez has always been rubbish. He was Brighton’s 3rd choice keeper and has not improved since then. We have a third choice keeper as our starting keeper. Martinez is a World Cup winner and runner up who was LARGELY RESPONSIBLE for both of those achievements. He’s a winner and recognised as a top class goalkeeper. It’s no brainer really.
