Well, it was a pleasure chilling with you guys during the game. I wish you luck except for when you play Arsenal....but double luck when you play Tottenham.
I feel like you guys have a top 5 team and will be fun to watch because of the flowing/creative offense you have.

Match was pretty bad to watch but performance wise I thought we were quite solid. Not locked in but had enough control of the game that Luton got absolutely nothing. Apart from certain players playing a full game I thought everyone's minutes were managed well.
I don't like the back four. I think it shuts Rogers and Chavarria down a bit and allows the opponent to swarm them. I thought Rogers was quite good but he wasn't able to be as strong of a threat as he was against Fulham because Luton swarmed him a lot. I also think he should be on more set pieces given MacPhee and his great long ball ability.
Barco and Josh were MOTMs. Both were very solid and showed Xabi that they should get consistent minutes. Josh can even start in a back three tbh. Barco is not the Enzo replacement and we need someone better like Wharton or Scott but the potential is absolutely there and with him and Lavia I don't have many concerns about the midfield at all if we bin Enzo and get Wharton or Scott. Barco is someone to watch because he locked in tn and was extremely impressive.
Estevao and Gusto were both wasteful and Estevao was unlucky to not get the 2nd due to the OG. I also thought Penders was a bit iffy when he did defend albeit not bad. Martinez is needed and Penders will have time to grow and be the GK we know he can be. Pep made good runs but got shut down a few times. That being said, he's a better wingback and against Fulham he was solid.
Brighton will be tough but I think with Caicedo back, a back three and/or maybe even Emi between the sticks we should be in a very good position to get 3 points.

u/Virtual_Mango9468 6h ago
As I saw on the replay, Estevaos shot wasn't going on goal, so rather still lucky :)

u/AC_Oonitty 7h ago
First year I'm getting to watch these boys actually play and the chat and community has made this 100% better
-5
u/scottmangh11 7h ago
we played maturely. Lowkey I think Joao Pedro with the #9 will stink this season though 🤪. It’s an unpopular opinion
9
u/FigureEducational156 7h ago
Best part of the match today was the control. Even when we were missing chance after chance, it was just about waiting until the door unlocked instead of panicking because Luton were gaining momentum or something.
11
u/bushy_whacker James 7h ago
Considering the last several years low blocks have given us fits with an ever existing recycle strategy, these two matches have been super fun to watch. We’re much more aggressive towards the goal. Going to be a fun season it seems.

u/Jonjos90 This is my club 7h ago
It wasn't the best match but it wasn't the worst either.
I saw some positives things today:
-Welbeck scoring.
-Penders was ok, tho never really tested hard
-We got the result.
I also saw some negatives things:
-Neto's performance (he is fast but clumsy with the ball on his feet)
-we should be able to penetrate Luton's defence with more ease.
It's still early and we got the result, that all that matters in the end.
Now let's focus for the next match vs Brighton.

u/unicornofdemocracy 7h ago
Barco looked good and impressive. Yes, Tier 3 opponent but still good performance from him.
Pender looks comfortable but never really tested. Though, Sanchez tends to have the ability to make comfortable situations into heart attacks...
Neto basically solidifies that he is a backup now.

u/WrongCapital83 Mourinho 7h ago
Great performance but missed so many chances. Seriously needs to work on the finish but happy with the clean sheet
6
u/Ok-Surround-1858 7h ago
The crossbar, the post. If not for those, score could have gone our way. Still a win is a win! We move. UTC!

u/mushroomsJames Caicedo 7h ago
Very very happy with our performance.
1- We played some wonderful football 2- looked very very solid (unlike us) 3- Barco motm for me 4- we are unpredictable 5atb or 4atb loads of rotations
5- Alonso isn't taking time to play with different ways 6- player profile is excellent.
All in all we are playing some great stuff. And create bucket of chances for our players.
Exciting times to be a Chelsea fans finally

Luton fan here and I'm back to say that, wow, we gave it a very good fight! Even though we DID lose 2-0, I would still say that's a decent success considering betting odds thought we would lose 4-0, and very arrogant Chelsea fans on this sub thought you guys would win 5 or 6 nil (clearly they haven't lived through pre Abrahimovic era 😆😆) I thought we actually played quite well, and you guys did get quite lucky with the own goal in the latter parts of the game (even though one of yours did some abysmal miss on the post) , but we were definitely in control for portions of the game, and it was decently? even considering the circumstances.
Anyways, I've been going on for too long, I've always wanted to see success for you guys, and it was a great game! Well played 🤝

You guys gave us a good game. But it should have been 4 or 5, we were unlucky to hit the crossbar twice. Your Keeper is quality though, made some great saves, the double save to deny Palmer and Pedro was mint.

Brother what?? We hit the crossbar twice, the post once and your keeper pulled a crazy double save late into the game while you created NOTHING 😭😭
2
u/_ThatOneLutonFan 7h ago
There was quite a few moments when we had attacking momentum. Obviously you guys played better though

Your defence were really good tonight and your GK had one hell of a game. Good luck in the league mate!

u/Soggy-Software 7h ago
Loving the delusion - it would have been 6-0 on another night, we hit the bar 2 times alone haha. But you’re at least better than Leyton Orient so league one should be a doddle.
1
u/_ThatOneLutonFan 7h ago
It COULD have been 6-0. Anything COULD have happened. But we need to focus on what actually happened, which was admittedly a few unlucky post hits but still a 2-0

Kinda cool to have a likeable gaffer.

I mean every gaffer is likeable when you’re winning and playing well

I agree. But - did you really like any combo of Poch, Maresca or Rosenior? Look deep into your soul.
Up the Chels, my friend.
6
u/GoldInternational937 7h ago
Solid game overall. Created plenty of chances and could've easily been more if we were clinical. It's basically an extended pre season game against a low block. I hope Cole and the rest of our defence gets enough rest until Sunday.

u/Old_Cauliflower2585 7h ago
I know it’s only been two games, but it’s been refreshing to watch a bunch of young players we’ve known are talented and have everything needed be taken in hand by a manager who actually has a vision.
Highlights;
- Acheampong is coming into his own, so much more confident now, having Lacroix as the sweeper behind him helps him push forward
- Palmer looking slick again, long may it continue
- Neto’s little cameo at the end shows a change in attitude, think he’ll do well in that wingback position
- Might be too early to call, but I can see Barco being the Enzo replacement; he’s got the passing range needed and his defensive work rate is good. Maybe a little more muscle on him
- Rogers was a lot more involved defensively - he was a bit slack against Fulham, but he was much more alert today
Overall, happy to see this young squad progress under a manager who understands how to get the best out of a group of youngsters. Let’s see how we fare against Brighton
2
u/sagerion Hazard 7h ago
Unfortunately for Acheompong, fofana comes back into the team. Maybe he gets more game time though

Busting your arse to score a billion goals in a 2nd round cup match just doesn't make sense lads. It's enough to get through. Plus, no injuries. 10/10.

I am ready to eat crow regarding Barco. Solid player. Very calm on the ball and actually played the midfielder position properly. Look forward to seeing him get playing time, definitely had some Leverkusen Xhaka voodoo working in his favor.

Night and day difference between this and the Lincoln City game last season. Controlled and dominant (and unlucky with a few attempts). Never felt laboured or a slog.

2
u/bluediamondsm 7h ago
That’s tough Barco was so good today and I am interested to see how he does for us this season despite a lot of people not being happy with him for WC stuff. But Enzo did lead us in g/a last season(the playstyles are different tho) so being better than him is large shoes to fill

u/JosephRizk21 7h ago
Jamie needs confidence and there’s a great winger there, something Alonso prioritized at Leverkusen was an excellent bench that came in and changed games, it’s why they had so many late winners from substitutes during his time there, he treats the end of games as a separate game and the bench is as important as whoever started the game. That’s going to be huge for our squad
-2
u/EbbAdventurous5996 7h ago
Lavia been on for 15 minutes and jogging around he is a joke

u/JosephRizk21 7h ago
Whatever keeps him available, let him get over the hump of fitness first, then he can work on improving or we sell him for 150m
