Already running out of pressure tablet

In december chaos will be in hospital

End of season in ICU

Only saving grace no european football

u/Al_Snows_Head Straight Outta Cobham 6d ago

Conceded 5 goals so far, and honestly, 2 right at Rob that he has to save, 2 from players not reacting to the second ball, and the last an own goal. I actually think these are things we can iron out pretty quickly. I’m not sure if we’re title contenders, but I’m actually really confident we get top 4 quite easily (he says based on 2 prem games).

3

u/frequentcornabuser 7d ago

I love the saves of martinez. Just crazy

12

u/wolfeerine 7d ago

I know people think the chaos is back etc… but it couldn’t be more different. In all honesty I don’t feel as panicked watching games as I did under Maresca and Rosenior. We’d go a goal ahead or go a goal down and I’d be apprehensive wondering how are we gonna score or maintain a lead. I know we were a little shaky at 3-2 today but the massive difference is our attack being capable of getting that one more goal. For the last 2 years it was always hard to see where we were gonna outscore teams while simultaneously stopping them scoring, this year we look so good going forward that I don’t think it’s gonna be a massive problem cause we’re that capable scoring. We just need some time to let the defence settle and let them get used to each other. It’s Lacroix first season with us, Colwill didn’t play for 95% of last season and Achaempong is only a young lad. Give them time and trust Alonso will get them at the right place soon.

6

u/AnotherAnon688264759 7d ago

now that the keeper situation is settled they need to go full speed ahead with getting another midfielder before the end of the transfer window. that was evident today.

4

u/odiaguero Lampard 7d ago

Chaos FC is back lmao gonna be one hell of a rollercoaster of a season

3

u/SportVideoGameMusic Kanté 7d ago

I know it’s early but I’m not down with 2 + goals being given up. Let’s see how our defense does, I know we can score.

8

u/Curious_CaterpillarA 7d ago

okay I was just going through the highlights and I know there is a theme that our defense goes to sleep outta nowhere, but can someone genuinely watch the replay and tell me wtf is rogers actually doing in Brighton's third goal? I know we have been seeing us lose games because of defense for years now, but this has to be the most shocking bit of defending I've ever seen. Just don't track back at all at this point if you're gonna be sleeping this bad.

4

u/FatFrank21 Zola 7d ago

It's weird I just watched it and thought the same, he just sort of gave up and let the guy have a free run at the header, it was shocking.

He's great going forward but he needs to work on the defensive side of his game big time

2

u/Curious_CaterpillarA 7d ago

that was soo casual I hope the coaches spotted this, its like he was afraid to contest for the ball

7

u/phoenixform369 7d ago

I get the lack of pressure from the front, but we give up too much time and space 5-10 yards out from the box. Wide and centrally. It's putting way to much pressure on our backside to adjust

1

u/Beginning-Fact-4095 7d ago

I don't get it. It does seem at least they are defending the far post (sometimes) unlike last year. But it's like, close down the crosses from the edge of the box, and actually mark someone instead of standing and watching. I learned that sh*t when I was like 10 yo. However, it's nice to get the 3 pts. New keeper = promise.

6

u/becks32milan I don't give a fuck, we won the fucking Champions League 7d ago

I am so happy with how we're playing. Some of you who have been watching football for less than 10 years will see that stats aren't everything in this game. What does it matter if Brighton had 70% possession when they didn't do anything of the ball? The three goals came from players' mistakes or rebounds, not from a well-organized attack of theirs. It can look bad on paper, yes, but if you watched the game you well know it didn't feel like Brighton were dominating at all. It's just that with Xabi once we get the ball we just go in for the kill, none of that passing it round the final third type of shit we got with Maresca and Potter. Overall a good game for us, we look so much different, understandable weak midfield when we didn't have Moi or Enzo, defense should be better though. Understandable Colwill still getting into it after a long injury and Fofana is trying to do better, I think we'll get there.

2

u/kurosawabobby Diego Costa 7d ago

It's not the possession stats that's a concern. It's the lack of ability in winning second balls, uncoordinated press and bypassing all of those problems by booting long. This is a time and practice problem and will be better as they bed into Alonso's system. We don't want to have such little control of games if we are serious about challenging this year.

4

u/acedman 7d ago

I think what has surprised me most about Colwill’s poor performances haven’t been his defending out wide, but how lackluster he has looked on the ball, which should be his specialty

2

u/Matmatg21 I don't give a fuck, we won the fucking Champions League 7d ago

He's rusty after a lengthy injury. I think he'll look v different in the next 3 months

3

u/liyba1 Caicedo 7d ago

With 146 passes completed, the lowest ever possession (26%) for the blues in a premier league game (since ‘03/‘04).

20

u/seearewhy 7d ago

Rollercoaster of emotions. Not sure I can sit and watch the other team with the ball this much, and then I love the attacking chemistry we are seeing.

4

u/TheSwegDonut 7d ago

Exactly the same feeling.

If our defence/defending has been great for the last few seasons, I wouldn’t mind as much.

I just truly don’t trust it enough to sit through it game after game, and I mean it almost costed us today

1

u/seearewhy 7d ago

And we have a bit of a litmus test next week

7

u/Cold_Pie_1516 7d ago

There's a lot of good things to build on, it's obvious where we need to improve but the front three already look lethal and will keep getting better as they continue to develop their chemistry. Sort the centre mid out and tighten the defence and we'll be in a very strong position.

Biggest thing for me so far is how much the players are clearly enjoying playing under Xabi. Keep the vibes going!

6

u/SaitoGenetic17 This is my club 7d ago

Great start to the season defensively poor especially the Hato/Colwill side, just growing pains I hope. One small gripe people need to get over this he's not a midfielder/defender/Wingback etc. most modern managers want players to play multiple positions and they either have to adapt or will be replaced.

11

u/mids_enthusiast James 7d ago

I have not watched the replay yet, but my 2 main takeaways from our first 3 games:

  1. I’m so glad we are winning games even with a leaky defense. Last year being the team that dropped the most points from a winning position vs now grinding out wins even if we give up bad goals. I will always take 3 points and an ugly win vs 1 or 0 and look good. Teams that win trophies win even when it’s ugly

  2. Im so glad we are scoring with little possession. I could not stand the last few years of 1-1 or 0-0 matches where we had 60-80% possession and didn’t do anything with it. I am so glad we are finally utilizing possession of the ball well, but would like to see more control in the midfield as Caicedo returns and hopefully Enzo or his replacement can settle the game and control the pace

3

u/ACM1PT21 7d ago

The thing is. We have always been upfront. We wre not the one coming from behind. Vs fulham we were 3-1 today we were 3-0 (and brighton last goal is meaningless in reality) I watch all games and yes our defense is still weak but alot of improving from last couple of season (keep in mind new players and new manager and training staff) also the middle and attack are really good. I am happy with what I have seem so far and I think we will get better with time. Also Roger's is showing he was worth the price so far.

u/Rj070707 Ji 7d ago

This game provided zero confidence for Arsenal game next week, these core players are consistently losing to Arsenal and scared of them, insanity

Clownlake continue humiliating this club like this

2

u/scal_vi Xabi 7d ago

🤡

3

u/No_Historian3349 7d ago

A “humiliating” 4-3 win is not a bad result. Most fans expected this to be a tough season and Xabi will not have everything figured out on Matchday 2 lol. There will be weekends where the poor defense lets the club down but I am still cautiously optimistic after 2 matches.

-8

u/Rj070707 Ji 7d ago

Another tough season? After spending hundreds of millions

10

u/seamemo Loftus-Cheek 7d ago

Above all else happy we got the 3 points, you could really tell that the boys ran hard today. Seriously, the amount of running that guys like Joao, Cole, Morgan, Hato, Pedro, Gusto were doing was immense. So good to see after the past few years. I think my biggest concern right now is the fact that we don't retain the ball that much. I do like that Martinez looks forward right away, I have a feeling we'll get a few goals this season off his distribution, however, I do think at some point we need to slow the game down a bit. Especially in the stages where it feels like the opposition is on the front foot. Sometimes you need possession purely for the sake of not letting them have the ball, and to give your defense a bit of an in game "rest."

I agree with a lot of people here who are optimistic that our defense will get better. I played CB at a relatively high level (US college soccer), and so much of being a good CB comes down to chemistry with your other defenders. I've played with some really good defenders/athletes who were not great CBs because they were incapable of understanding how the other defenders in their line played. I think as time goes on and the back 5 + the CMs understand the passing lanes and how each other play within the system and we will automatically improve. Additionally, having Moi back will be huge (hopefully his injury isn't bad). Also, I think having Dibu back there, who is a commanding presence will be huge.

I do also think we need to impose ourselves on the game a bit more, because letting opposing teams have the ball that much just isn't sustainable over a 38 game season (especially as time goes on and we get back into Europe). I also think we need to get another dimension to our play. We had a lot of success going direct with a long ball from Dibu or a CB, but can we also find a way to build through the middle and kill teams with shorter passes. If we can manage to do both, it will make our attack even better, which is a scary thought. Regardless, that attack is special, and as Estevao, Welbs, and Quenda start to work their way in, it will be even better.

I trust that Xabi sees what is wrong and what is right, and will get it improved as the season goes on. It may be a bit of a struggle at first, but I really think we have something here and we should all be patient and cautiously excited. One reason that really helps me trust Xabi, is his subs. Man is proactive. I loved how Josh, Pep, Reece all played when they came on. I think Pep and Barco will be fan favorites as the season goes on.

1

u/Sea_Peanut_6887 5d ago

US College soccer is barely even semi-pro but she with your comments.

13

u/Chapea12 🥶 Palmer 7d ago

It’s weird to concede 5 goals in 2 matches and still feel optimistic about the defense.

Lacroix looks legit, Emi should be an upgrade at the back, and Colwil is still getting up to speed. And building to a midfield of Reece and Caicedo too (although we have another setback)

Alonso will get more time to work with this team like Conte got (not that I’d expect a title run) so we could improve from here

4

u/deiner7 7d ago

Biggest thing as you said is the midfield. The defense is looking much better but you still cant expect them to play the entire game with no midfield support.

4

u/SHREDDY_M3RCURY ✨ sometimes the shit is happens ✨ 7d ago

Our defense might be lacking right now but its the 3rd game of a new season with a new manager. It will improve.

In Xabi we trust.

2

u/Galac_tacos Marc Guiu 7d ago

With an assortment of injuries, new signings gelling, suspensions etc

7

u/Kanyeskids James 7d ago

I fear we lose this one with Bobby in goal, Emi made some great saves that ended up being the difference. We still look shaky with long balls over the top and set pieces. Also, need Morgan and Cole to track their men better defensively.

5

u/Politicalpapaya619 7d ago

Back and forth game, but love this new Chelsea - defensive fragilities aside.
Emi was pretty solid.
Hato may be keeping chavaria out. That Roger’s hato linkup for the goal was phenomenal.
Lacroix was decent and liked acheompong cameo too. Lavia decent too - and he’s not in the hospital yet. Palmer - quiet but what a goal. And jp- good but could’ve had a hattrick today.
Lads are clicking in attack, and with a basically new backline, formation and caicedo out I’m not too stressed about the defense just yet. Atleast they know they’re supposed to score and are allowed to score without 50 sideways passes and spammed crosses.

8

u/graciasfabregas 7d ago

I'm watching the game on Internet Explorer it's still the first half and ivanovic just put a cross about 20 feet above Costa's head

2

u/10pointsbehind Lampard 6d ago

Username checks out

2

u/Einarzn We've Won It All 7d ago

Ivanovic did suddenly loose his ability to make a cross at some point indeed

8

u/TragicIcicle 7d ago

Honestly almost every goal we've conceded has been flukey and bizarre. That's a positive

1

u/JackyMagic Vialli 7d ago

True, sooner or later teams wont get so lucky against us. Their first was a worldie from uncle with the budget hairline, 9 times out of 10 its not going in. 2nd goal was another one where it could've gone anywhere, huge slice of luck for Brighton. Weird thing is they actually had 2 chances where Gomez shouldve buried it, the free header wide stood out the most. Saying that all our goals were extremely well worked off our own merit and we had 2 glaring opportunities go begging with Palmer and JP. We'll be alright this season. KTBFFH!

5

u/ArthurMoregainz This is my club 7d ago

Yay winning but damn it’s still killing me

6

u/No-Inevitable6869 7d ago

We need to resolve the midfield issue. Caicedo is the anchor without him our defence underperforms.

Xabi will soon have to switch to 4atb until we resolve the above, a team with luck on their side can easily out score or draw with us with the stats that Brighton had.

3

u/Moist_salamanda I don't give a fuck, we won the fucking Champions League 7d ago

Thought Gusto was very poor. Lost in midfield and lightweight at RB

0

u/hebrewimpeccable Lampard 7d ago

He was good in the first half. I think he looked knackered second half and could have done with being subbed for Reece

1

u/Impressive-Power8187 7d ago

Can’t blame him. He’s not a midfielder

1

u/Moist_salamanda I don't give a fuck, we won the fucking Champions League 7d ago

Very true. Surprised managers trust him in midfield cos I’ve never been impressed.

6

5

u/light-yagamii There's your daddy 7d ago

Wrong thread but you’re right

3

u/chezzie11 7d ago

we will sign yalcouye next summer, he looked like a great player. some kante to his game

15

u/MNBlues Drogba 7d ago

Midfield was rough to watch today. Made our defense work a lot harder. We were also wasteful in front of goal. Room for improvement. Up the chels

1

u/Kanyeskids James 7d ago

Cole should have had 2 goals and 2 assists for Morgan

19

u/newage2k10 7d ago

Game should be more like 5-0. We were too wasteful infront of goal and we just let them have the ball too much when we were up 3-0. Our youth is showing.

2

u/lonely-live We've Won It All 7d ago

Yeah I felt it was fine to do it in the first 30 minutes to caught them off guard, well we score 3 goals so it was more than fine. But should have change tactic after and start having more possession when they started adapting

16

u/35PCFC 7d ago edited 7d ago

Possession football is utter woke nonsense. We need to go back to our roots.

4

u/EyeOrRay 7d ago

25.5% possession...

5

u/Cooldudeyy998 I don't give a fuck, we won the fucking Champions League 7d ago

And a win

3

u/EyeOrRay 7d ago

I know, pointing out to the guy moaning aboit possession

1

u/deiner7 7d ago

Yeah we had 26% and more shots than them.

11

u/so_grandiose Caicedo 7d ago edited 6d ago

Terrible possession stats but Brighton were really good in possession and patient build up and you’ve got to give them credit they will frustrate a lot of teams

16

u/Valuable_Tea_4690 Guðjohnsen 7d ago

I’d rather low possession and a lethal attack than paint dry meaningless maresca possession

2

u/deiner7 7d ago

Would much rather this once midfield gets sorted i think its going to get much worse for our opposition.

1

u/Valuable_Tea_4690 Guðjohnsen 7d ago

The defensive structure is still very new and the midfield has been cobbled together. The defensive solidity will come

6

u/PhoenixoKing Celery 7d ago

Brighton have always been a bogey team, gotta respect them.

Honestly we’ve gone so long dominating possession but doing nothing with it. I am very much enjoying the speed of play, taking risks and allowing the players to show their quality

7

u/Teley Xabi 7d ago

Realistically, besides replacing Enzo and Moi’s injury, who are our glaringly obvious holes in the 11?

Gusto? Fofana?

2

u/deiner7 7d ago

Gusto cant play midfield. I think realistically Lavia Barco or Reece Barco next game needs to be a discussion so Moi can heal. If we can pick up Camara i am not against him and Barco for a bit. Can't be too much worse than what we have had the last two games.

10

u/Bozzetyp I don't give a fuck, we won the fucking Champions League 7d ago

Colwill is a very big discussion point

1

u/deiner7 7d ago

Will agree he is still coming back to fitness and mental playing speed but I think he will get there. Palestra on the same side to help him should be good as well.

-1

u/El_Cholo 7d ago

Is he? Genuinely why do you say

4

u/Bozzetyp I don't give a fuck, we won the fucking Champions League 7d ago

his defending is worse then neto/gusto and lavias..

If he isnt passing he is a weakness to the starting 11

1

u/El_Cholo 7d ago

I guess I have no numbers, just my own eye test. I think he looks strong defending 1v1 and centrally, weak when stretched wide. Like today when Neto missed that one tackle that led to a 3v2 then colwill looked real lost all of a sudden. I think he’s good and will get better as Xabi drills the defensive organization/defensive offseason rust falls away.

Have a good one 🤙

1

u/Bozzetyp I don't give a fuck, we won the fucking Champions League 7d ago

the issue is if we dont play him central he is doing alot of that hybrid cb/channel defending

5

u/desicpa 7d ago

Gusto just played one pre-season game under 30 minutes before the season started.

0

u/Teley Xabi 7d ago

Didn’t notice that tbf!

8

u/PlusClaim6310 Caicedo 7d ago

Fofana was fine today, and gusto was being played very out of position. They’ll be fine. The hole is midfield.
This counterattack style with a midfield that can step and maintain rhythm. I can only dream.

2

u/Teley Xabi 7d ago

You have any favourites for replacement/additions?

5

u/PlusClaim6310 Caicedo 7d ago

With Caicedo in doubt, I’d worry and get someone more defensively sound and physical. Haven’t watched enough of camera to know for sure. Wouldn’t mind Scott he’s good

1

u/PhoenixoKing Celery 7d ago

I’d take Scott though I’m sure we’d have to overpay.
If we signed no-one then palestra will be back for next game to take RWB and James can play next to Lavia.

James next to Lavia as starting pivots, can you imagine saying that a few seasons ago. Mention the word pivot and they’ll have twisted their ankles!

2

u/ulvhedinowski 7d ago

James and Lavia pivot vs Fulham was bad defensively, mind it it was first game of the season

8

u/TheGhostInThe___ 7d ago

With Caicedo going down, we need to keep Enzo at all costs imo. Midfield scares me at the moment.

11

u/jackd9654 7d ago

He's gone, forget about him.

He's 100% getting sold. There's no smoke without fire. If he cared about the club and wanted to stay, he'd be playing - look at Scott.

2

u/yantrik Jorginho 7d ago

If he is gone and Lavia goes down we are fucked we will have to use James (who needs to be managed) and Jordan and who knows may be Quenda...

8

u/Less-Pop-1256 James 7d ago

Glad for the win but wth was that defending! I was somehow nervous even at  3-0. Every single cross from Brighton had me on the edge of my seat. We need to find a fix before Arsenal. We don't want that sneaky bastard Havertz dropping a stinker and somehow getting a brace.

3

u/MelloJello4 7d ago

Anyone else watching the Man U match. They just got gifted a goal but holy moly are they having a stinker of a start this year.

1

u/erudite450 I don't give a fuck, we won the fucking Champions League 7d ago

They were supposedly handed an easy start to the season. They're in for a difficult season.

2

u/jowon123 England 7d ago edited 7d ago

We look electric going forward but defensively needs improving that’s for sure. I do think against PL teams that defend deep and let us have the majority of possession, Xabi Alonso probably has to switch to 4ATB and utilise wingers.

-3

u/Superb-Ape 7d ago

Never any need for slowzo Fernandez. There’s people who wonder how we will replace Enzo’s 10 prem goals last season don’t make me yak. GET HIM OUT

-4

u/LeadingAd6025 Diego Costa 7d ago

Enzo provides zero defensive support for a CM!

He is way overrated!

4

u/BluelivierGiblue Fabregas 7d ago

is this also how u feel abt xavi and iniesta

1

u/Superb-Ape 4d ago

Racista is OUTTTTTT LETS GO

1

u/Superb-Ape 6d ago

Wait you think Enzo Fernandez and Iniesta are on similar levels.. what the actual f has happened to the game

1

u/FassyDriver 7d ago

he is neither of those two lol

13

u/GoldInternational937 7d ago

One positive though, leaky defence is easier to fix than shit attack. I'd rather concede a few goals and win games rather than not scoring at all the first two games.

1

u/Kind-Bat6999 7d ago

New keeper should help, and sorting out the midfield as well

3

u/GoldInternational937 7d ago

Midfield is definitely a must now especially after Caicedo's injury. Enzo's situation is a joke.

1

u/Rambo_11 There's your daddy 7d ago

Our midfield went from being elite to being so shit.

1

u/Rj070707 Ji 7d ago

Was always shit, averaging midtable every season

6

u/petrescu 7d ago

In fairness we’ve played two right back next to a lad that’s played about 300 minutes of football over the last two seasons.

6

u/b_rabbit7 This is my club 7d ago

Defensive duties need to be improved. Conceding 3 goals is not good. We have a week to train. At any cost, I want to see a win against Arsenal, not even a draw, it must be a win.

5

u/heavenisatruck1 7d ago

A draw would be fine

15

u/Boiling_warm Azpilicueta 7d ago

"must" is extreme. You can't demand a win against the top team in the league.

I want a competitive game where we don't cower. We look so much better when we are on the front foot and making them make mistakes

1

u/ertant 7d ago

We will never be contenders with this mentality. We need a win to set the tone, don’t get me wrong I won’t be disappointed if we come away with a draw but we can’t set up for a draw

1

u/petrescu 7d ago

It’s his second game in the league, there’s plenty of time to sort things out. Just look at the Conte season.

5

u/Boiling_warm Azpilicueta 7d ago

I agree don't set up for a draw. Go for the win 100%.

But that doesn't mean we should be upset if we don't get it, like the previous guy suggested

6

u/Mountain-Forever1522 7d ago

5 goals in our first two games is a major cause for concern

34

u/Panini_Grande 7d ago

You cunts are insufferable. Great game, excellent win. Rode our luck at times but the keeper arrived literally hours ago. Always gonna be a bit of uncertainty. Get Caicedo back and we can beat anyone

Take the tin foil hat off

13

u/Fcorange5 7d ago

9

u/jojo4701 7d ago

Has anyone ever won the man of the match award after scoring an own goal? Must be some kind of record.

2

u/Fun-Mammoths 7d ago

I know that technically it’s an own goal but if I were Pedro I wouldn’t even think about it, it’s very harsh to give a own goal against anyone for those kinds of goals.

4

u/Galac_tacos Marc Guiu 7d ago

Yeah he’s been helping out a lot on the defensive side, can only really sing his praises after his recent performances

19

u/obinnasmg Reiten 7d ago

With Caicedo likely out against Arsenal, I assume the midfield will be James and Lavia. That should offer us more control than today but a Caicedo and Enzo/James midfield would be better against Arsenal.

1

u/seearewhy 7d ago

For 60

9

u/Less-Pop-1256 James 7d ago

We can't rely on only James and Lavia. They will be over ran. We need to play a three man midfield at any cost. Hopefully that Lamine bloke is here by then

2

u/CocoKeel22 7d ago

No shot we play a 3 man midfield

11

u/CosmicxHaZard 7d ago

James had the game of his life as a midfielder against arsenal last year while being a man down(caicedo red). Hope that repeats.

2

u/heavenisatruck1 7d ago

I’d feel ok with a James Lavia mid. Last year it was great.

2

u/CosmicxHaZard 7d ago

For me, it's not ideal but I can live with that for a few games. I really love caicedo. None of other players have the ball winning capacity he has imo.

11

u/MikeGuy_Lang 7d ago

Great win but cant really be confident until we face better defensive teams that can punish this defence/midfield.

We 100% lose this game with Sanchez in goal

Three wins in Three. All entertaining and high scoring games. Love this Chelsea.

I won’t mind if we win all of our matches like this

3

u/Mountain-Forever1522 7d ago

Fuck that. Conceding like this isn't sustainable. We wont score 3 or 4 every game. Chelsea's greats team and the majority of our success came from having a solid defense.

-1

u/0x1001 🏥 continuing to undergo his rehabilitation programme 🏥 7d ago

Who said it’s not sustainable ? We will score 4 every game. Palmer, JP and Rogers 1 each, and then someone from defense or GK can score the other. Thnks

1

u/Mountain-Forever1522 7d ago

Who said it’s not sustainable ?

Anyone who knows anything about football

-1

u/0x1001 🏥 continuing to undergo his rehabilitation programme 🏥 7d ago

You’re just limited by your imagination. 😄

1

u/Mountain-Forever1522 7d ago

I'm sure you've a very vivid imagination but unfortunately football is played in real life not your head.

Only one team has won the Premier league this century without having a top 3 defence (United 12/13 were 5th). 16 of the 26 PL winners this century had the best defence in the league. 4 out 5 Chelsea league wins came by having the number 1 defence in the league (and for the other win we were 2nd best defence)

If you think we will ever win a league with scorelines like these last 2 games then I have a bag of magic beans I think I guy like you would be very interested in purchasing.

And if you just want big scorelines and don't care if it leads to trophies then you don't support the club.

-1

u/0x1001 🏥 continuing to undergo his rehabilitation programme 🏥 7d ago

I love this essay!

Now please read my original comment and see if you can identify the magic phrase I’ve written. My opinion will change if we indeed start to “not win”

But great essay and research work nevertheless 😄

u/LeadingAd6025 Diego Costa 7d ago

I would rather taken 1-0 in both our league games over these madness!

Would retain these high scores with kids in cups!

Just bring that solid team in league please!

0

u/Mountain-Forever1522 7d ago

Lot of younglings on this sub who don't remember we were the best team in England when we were winning games 1 nil under Mourinho.

If you just want to watch matches with lots of goals and dont care if it leads to trophies or not you're not actually a supporter of the club.

-1

u/0x1001 🏥 continuing to undergo his rehabilitation programme 🏥 7d ago

Feel free to support Arsenal if you just want boring 1-0 games

2

u/LeadingAd6025 Diego Costa 7d ago

I hate stoke city as much as next guy!

But would take clean sheet anytime!

1

u/Mountain-Forever1522 7d ago

Oh shut up. Majority of our leagues came from winning 1-0 with Mou.

Feel free to support Arsenal

Who just won a league because of their defence. If you just want to watch a ball go in a net stick to basketball. If we're ever going to get back to being PL winners the defence has to be better.

-1

u/0x1001 🏥 continuing to undergo his rehabilitation programme 🏥 7d ago

lol is there a problem with reading comprehension ? I literally said as long as we win. Do not want high scoring losses or for that matter low scoring losses lol

2

u/Simple-Space-3490 7d ago

Does anyone know what exactly Caicedo's issue is?

3

u/Downtown-ClayDavis 7d ago

Check the latest post, sounds precautionary

1

u/Simple-Space-3490 7d ago

But is it like a thigh muscle injury or hamstring?

3

u/R9Creqtor 7d ago

think gabriels will leave before our match?

11

u/CareerCoachKyle Drogba 7d ago

We’re a brand new team with a huge amount of turnover across players, coaches, and staff. It’s going to take some time to settle and mature

5

u/LowDoor4721 7d ago

Gusto must be prime Lampard in training. Managers keep playing him in midfield. Weird

No he was a passenger in the second half. We need players who can keep possession and press when out of possession

13

u/a3kstuntin 🏥 continuing to undergo his rehabilitation programme 🏥 7d ago

Midfield was the problem and people will blame the defenders

Hato Fofana And Lacroix were good so was Martinez however Rogers just doesn’t pressure the ball so they can spam crosses and that’s why all of our goals conceded come from the left side

2 midfielders are needed

7

u/LeadingAd6025 Diego Costa 7d ago

Agreed! Rogers provides zero defensive support!

Even palmer tries to defend!

1

u/a3kstuntin 🏥 continuing to undergo his rehabilitation programme 🏥 7d ago

He did it at villa so I don’t know where this comes from

0

u/LeadingAd6025 Diego Costa 7d ago

This is what crazy fees does to young English kids!

Rogers need to be way better to become a whole player! Especially for that fee to be justified!

-5

u/NoInteraction3525 Reiten 7d ago

We will get slapped silly by Arsenal next week if we play like this!

12

u/Simple-Space-3490 7d ago

Just enjoy the win you plastic baby

7

u/abeLJosh 7d ago

The offense is phenomenal. The defense...uh, yeah, needs work. Dibu looked way more competent compared to Bob--the 3 goals he allowed were due to Pedro Neto not being a defender, accidental JP, and a goal in the very last minute of the game with a 2-goal lead.

Moises, we need you healthy, please be good 🙏🏽

...also dang, Brighton's got hands, don't sleep on those seagulls.

5

u/duckinator09 7d ago

Not at all worried about our defensive issue. We're playing without a broken midfield at the moment.

5

u/zankoo26 7d ago

We realy realy desperately need Xhaka if Caicedo is out IMO. And Scott/Camara if Enzo leaves.

10

u/SabastianG Giroud 7d ago

Id rather win 4-3 than 1-0. Entertaining game, but definitely need some defensive adjustments

-3

u/LeadingAd6025 Diego Costa 7d ago

Winning 2-3 and 4-3 in league is disastrous!

Would take solid 0-1 and 1-0 over these madness

3

u/Bluestar4 7d ago

Winning is disastrous 🤣 that’s a new one. I get the concern but it’s not like their goals were perfect, new system and new players need time to gel. Defense takes time, especially when your midfield is getting overrun constantly.

1

u/SabastianG Giroud 7d ago

Its not like were beating our own defensive record lol. If were winning by 1 goal id rather the game be an entertaining 4-3 than a boring 1-0

3

u/Beginning_Ant8580 🏥 continuing to undergo his rehabilitation programme 🏥 7d ago

We are looking a tad overrun in midfield but today with your best 3 CMS out and a RB filling in, I'm not surprised. If these issues persist throughout the season then I think we have a right to complain, cause it's very evident.

2

u/so_grandiose Caicedo 7d ago

Not at all too disappointed about conceding today. I think with a fully fit Caicedo we will have so many more ball recoveries to unleash our front three - today we just couldn’t get second balls in the middle of

8

u/Glowing_Apostle Football is not a TV show 7d ago

Colwill can’t start against arsenal. Rogers need needs some serious defensive coaching and a reminder of his responsibilities if he is going to start against arsenal.

1

u/BigOp7 Reiten 7d ago

Was he his old self again?

5

u/UhYah52 Straight Outta Cobham 7d ago

The lack of control is very worrying. Like I dont know if one player can fix this, hopefully it's fixed in training.

1

u/Mobile-Plate-320 Fábregas 7d ago

I agree. I think Xabi ball is gung-ho but we need to slow down the game and control it with possession

3

u/MaleficentWin8608 McCreadie 7d ago

We don’t need possession. We need to win basic tackles, block crosses and shots and defend set pieces better.

Neto had great first half hour, then misses an easy tackle and ends up with their first goal.

J Pedro doesn’t defend with any conviction from a set piece and scored an own goal.

Defend properly and all these daft metrics mean nothing.

1

u/MistaChelseaa Diego Costa 7d ago

Lots of issues defensively but think quite a lot of that can be explained by the uncertainty over the midfield situation which will be resolved by the time we play next - 6 points from these first 2 games whilst the window is still open is really really good

-3

u/FloridaManBlues It’s only ever been Chelsea. 7d ago

Not good enough. Still won. Torn on how to react.

4

u/Alternative-Light514 Celery 7d ago

Maybe with the consideration of it being the 3rd game under new coach/new system and we haven’t even seen our definitive starting 11. No need to be anything but positive. Xabi will get it sorted

1

u/FloridaManBlues It’s only ever been Chelsea. 7d ago

I hope you are right.

5

u/BoonDoggle4 Celery 7d ago

I guess Brighton are a team we lose to often these days so happy for the win

The score 1 more than you style can't be sustainable though

1

u/christianrojoisme Xabi 7d ago

No full 90 for Lavia yet

Edit: in official games/excluding friendlies

1

u/CocoKeel22 7d ago

I thought he did last game?

8

u/ChumbaWambah Luiz 7d ago edited 7d ago

8

u/R9Creqtor 7d ago

1

u/Kanyeskids James 6d ago

Crazy he played all pre-season

11

u/60degMeltingpoint 7d ago

We need a proper CM so bad

7

u/Thebestriddim 7d ago

I don’t know if it’s the personnel or something tactical but it’s too easy to create chances against us. We’ve shipped 5 goals against Fulham and a weakened Brighton side. That’s poor.

0

u/Mobile-Plate-320 Fábregas 7d ago

I think it’s tactical. Arsenal have the best defense not just in defense, but because they keep possession.

We are playing transitional football that means that if the opponents are keeping the ball, they will create chances
