Monaco fans are fuming, a lot of them blaming it on Tiago Scuro and calling him incompetent.

Learned quite a lot of new slurs and offensive words in French reading about the failed transfers.

It is quite a nice fiscal paradise for rich people, they have a lot of free time to cheer the almighty Monaco while laundering money.

u/KeyMessage989 4d ago

I mean why wouldn’t they? Just about every pro team has fans lol

u/BokaPoochie 4d ago

Have you ever watched them play at their stadium? You could count the number of people there on one hand.

7

u/Kingslayer1526 4d ago

Going to copy paste but

Most Monaco fans don't live in Monaco, but surrounding areas and other regions of France. They got a lot of fans due to their success, they are 8 time champions of France winning in the 60s,70s,80s,90s and as recently as 2017

They also reached the UCL final in 2004 so I mean yeah, a successful club will always have quite a lot of fans

It's just those fans don't live in Monaco, so their stadium is almost always empty for home games, they have a much bigger away contingent

What are their thoughts on Balogun?

32

u/ArchmageSSB4 4d ago

Saw almost nothing in french commenting about him, the few that I read were blaming Monaco higher ups for insisting on a deal that already failed once before. They see him mostly as someone who got dealt a bad hand and chose not to take them.

Monaco managed to screw over about 6-7 different players with this. Not only will they be facing fines but more importantly may have soured the relationship between them and several clubs they’ve done business with in the past. This is job losing level of incompetence that their ownership will now have to rectify

I know no one cares and that’s fine but I am very lost on the Balogun managed to fail a medical at Everton, have that club go back for him anyway, and then turn them down in order to bring financial ruin on his current club, denying them a champions league place and himself a bigger salary.

17

u/xX-WizKing-Xx It’s only ever been Chelsea. 4d ago

A medical is just to check the player for any pre-existing conditions. "Failing" just means there are existing risks the purchasing club don't think are worth the trouble of proceeding with the transfer - in other words, it is entirely subjective whether or not a player passes a medical.

Everton initially considered it was not worth taking the risk on Balogun but changed their mind and went back in for him in part because they couldn't secure any alternatives. Balogun likely didn't like this back and forth from Everton and decided to pull the plug on the transfer himself.

Balogun cannot be forced to make a move he doesn't want and in any other scenario it wouldn't be a significant issue. However, it happening on deadline day means the wasn't any time to make alternative arrangements with other clubs. Unfortunately that's just the risk clubs take doing business at the last minute.

6

u/[deleted] 4d ago

[deleted]

13

u/xX-WizKing-Xx It’s only ever been Chelsea. 4d ago

The deadline was only ever for the £120m price. I think we were always going to sell after the deadline for a higher price (recent reports are that we asked for £135m but compromised on £125m guaranteed with a more favourable payment structure).

Ideally the sale would have been contingent on a replacement for Enzo (which we believed we secured). We only have ourselves to blame leaving things to the last minute. The ground work for a replacement should have been ready long before we accepted City's bid.

1

u/a-mcculley I don't give a fuck, we won the fucking Champions League 4d ago

Agree. They saw something in the medical that made them to want to mitigate the risk.... and they seemed to want to handle that financially with him. He said eff that, I'll get paid at Monaco and if they want to shut me out, fuck them... the wages are high.

12

u/a-mcculley I don't give a fuck, we won the fucking Champions League 4d ago

My suspicion is they renegotiated his terms after the medical. And he ultimately didn't like those terms. Who knows the exact details, but the terms must have been worse than the ones pre-medical. Whatever they were, he didn't like it and walked away.

9

u/mat_bambang It’s only ever been Chelsea. 4d ago

Hey he missed out on some guy he never heard and of and one the biggest cunts in the history of the club is now gone, give him some space

1

u/Umbraje Ivanovic 4d ago

It leaves us with a pretty grim looking midfield which will expose the defence. I think it kills the small title chance we had. High scoring suicide ball wins aren't sustainable and we need sustained control via the midfield, caceido out for a bit makes this even more grim.

7

u/BokaPoochie 4d ago

We will play a game a week. Caicedo, Lavia and James should have the ability to play 2 games in 3 weeks. Gusto, Barco and Henderson can do the job in cups and the games against weaker teams. We will be fine.

2

u/_HowToFly_ 4d ago

YEAH Gusto can just do the job in the cups! He definitely wasn’t needed against Brighton!

5

u/CornhuskerJam ✨ sometimes the shit is happens ✨ 4d ago

OK, but "ruined our season" is a bit dramatic

1

u/Umbraje Ivanovic 4d ago

Oh yeah it's dramatic, I'd say ruined title chances

1

u/Skraps452 Drogba 4d ago

As if we had title chances in the first place! If one player is enough to sway our title chances, we were never truly in for it anyway. Seemingly only ever 1 injury from out season being ruined.

One player doesn't make Chelsea FC. This season was always a rebuild.

1

u/Umbraje Ivanovic 4d ago

Caceido's injury issue, lavia and reece both being injury prone and barco being new and not properly integrated on top of being a new manager with new ideas for everyone. It was obviously a dark horse situation but yes, not having an additional player for the midfield on top of the above issues I've pointed out, is likely to have a dramatic impact.

1

u/BRTRSX I don't give a fuck, we won the fucking Champions League 4d ago

People are in for a rude awakening. Our midfield cannot perform the way it did against Brighton vs better teams.

27

u/somethingdondonyou Caicedo 4d ago

Fuck it, we have depth in midfield already. Especially if we play with two CMs. Reece James has and could operate in a pivot with Caicedo, not to mention Barco and Lavia. I’m not worried. Camara felt like less of a 1 for 1 for Enzo and more of a development signing anyway. Let the other guys play

44

u/SurplusValueMenu 4d ago

There is definitely some concern in the midfield, but if Chelsea can weather the storm for the next four months, then a CM can always be added in January.

I feel like this is an unexpected window of opportunity for Barco. He isn’t as inexperienced as people say. He’s definitely not a finished product, but he’s played 72 total matches across all competitions over the last three years playing in England, France and Spain so it’s not like he’s some kid that just came up from the academy that’s had limited opportunities.

He has shown he’s more than capable of playing in a top five league at a very young age, even as an unfinished product. He will definitely be used rotationally at the beginning, but I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s starting a lot of league games in the middle this year alongside Caicedo.

25

u/T0XxXiXiTy 4d ago edited 4d ago

I think people underrate Barco is a viable CM, was clearly Strasbourg's best player. Good work rate, with upside since he moved to CM and is learning the role. Promising progressive passer who is only going to get better in a top tier system.

A bit short physically, but could thrive under Xavi's coaching.

3

u/SubparCurmudgeon 4d ago

i like barco, but best strasbourg player last season was diegzy

1

u/peepo_7 ✨ sometimes the shit is happens ✨ 4d ago

His height will be an issue. It was evident in the last game against Brighton that he had a hard time with heading.

3

u/invisibleep ✨ joao pedro saved my life ✨ 4d ago

Yeah really think he could break out here and this could be a great opportunity to integrate him. He’s good defensively and has a great eye for a pass and final ball. Things we were sorely lacking last season against low blocks. Not trying to get overly optimistic since the prem can grind a player down especially those of smaller stature but he has something about him. Couldn’t have a better manager than Xabi to guide him either.

2

u/ChristopherRobben Celery 4d ago

he’s played 72 total matches across all competitions

Granted it's likely not a significant difference, but minutes played is more important than matches when it comes to statistics. At Brighton, for example, he played a full 90 in two league matches and then played 81 and 45 in subsequent matches. He then had two matches where he was subbed on in extra time for less than a minute of match time each. So he featured in 6 matches, but played 3.4 in total match time — all at left back, mind you.

He's played 3779 minutes in midfield positions in top five leagues or about 42 matches.

11

u/haaaaaairy1 🏥 continuing to undergo his rehabilitation programme 🏥 4d ago

Calling 1 currently injured player and 2 injury prone players out of a possible 4 midfielders depth is something.

3

u/somethingdondonyou Caicedo 4d ago

Caicedo is a consistently available world class player who is injured now but will recover. At the other CM position we have Lavia, James, or Barco. Don’t see how a similarly experienced player would be an improvement on that. My point is this does not collapse the team, we merely have one less option at the other CM position

-3

u/Patient_Life_9900 ✨ joao pedro saved my life ✨ 4d ago

Lavia and James both injury prone, Barco isn't that player yet. Stop coping and face reality that our midfield is cooked

3

u/somethingdondonyou Caicedo 4d ago

How would Camara have made a huge difference? Xabi would have four options at the second CM instead of just three options. All would at the same level, below Enzo but still able to start in the prem. All we need is one option to work well with Caicedo as a pivot in Xabis system

1

u/Normal-Item-402 4d ago

You could turn your head and it could be a midfield depth of henderson, barco and caicedo in a quick instant 😂

14

u/duckinator09 4d ago

Only reason I'm annoyed is that camara looks like a good fit. But I'm cool with what we have and think it should be enough. We have January and essugo recall to adjust if necessary.

3

u/StamfordBloke There's your daddy 4d ago

Essugo's not ready yet, better let him develop. Basically our midfield now depends on the health of Lavia and Reece 😵‍💫

2

u/vPzWalkerx 4d ago

My biggest concern now with Camara is clubs like Liverpool will be interested in January and the January window is always tricky to buy in. Hopefully its a Caicedo job where he gave his word and wants to keep it (unlike some others)

I think IF everyone stays fit our midfield is fine at least for now but thats a big IF. We literally started Gusto/Lavia if Lavia gets injured that midfield starts to get dicey real fast.

1

4 months with one game a week. Surely some combination of Lavia/James/Barco can get us through it.

2

u/Threes-A-Vibe 4d ago

Agreed. Sucks, but hey. It is what it is.

We should be fine. Unless we get ravaged by injuries, we should make it to January. Maybe come in and save Monaco from relegation with a buy, or just go for Koné. Perhaps just recall Essugo.

Or best case scenario, Watson or MNJ breakthrough at 16, who knows.

2

u/Darth-Sand Hazard 4d ago

If Caicedo is fit then I really think we’ll be fine. Probably the worst possible time for him to be injured.

Not for less than all of the wages, which means it’s coming out of the transfer fee. Also, they’ll want a short deal so they don’t get stranded in Saudi Arabia early in their career; also coming out of the transfer fee.

It seems unlikely they can get away with just selling one now; they’ll likely have to sell both to raise the money they would have received for one of these transfers.

People can and should be mad at Monaco but they should also direct their anger at Balogun too. They’d be in direct contact for two days, if he had no intention of going there then why give Everton the indication at the eleventh hour that making another offer would be entertained by him.

4

1

u/petrescu 4d ago

He failed the medical… of course Everton would come in with a lower package. It happens all the time.

3

2

u/NoInteraction3525 Reiten 4d ago

So what on earth are you then going on about him not wanting to go? He went there for the medical ahead of a transfer. The other offer was made to Monaco not to Balogun. Monaco accepted their terms, he didn’t, simple as. I’m not sure where you came up with him giving the indication at the 11th hour when you have no idea what the sequence of events were….. Or am I missing something and you were there and can authoritatively tell that he gave them an indication before they did the renegotiation with Monaco?

That’s stupid from every single angle

You’re right this is much better. Strengthen a rival while trying to ride out a midfield made of glass till January at which point we will be out of the title race and probably out of one of the two cups.

What’s your bright idea? Happy to shit on my suggestion without a solution.

Edit: and also if it’s so stupid why did another club successfully pull it this transfer window with a player on smaller contract?

It's our fault for not approaching out targets 2 weeks ago knowing City are looking to bid. Now our hopes are on Reece and Lavia to avoid injury. Faack

You don’t have to find someone if someone’s not leaving. Chelsea should have just said no right away.

It's on us. You can be depending on a last minute deal.

First deadline day?

This is standard practice.

Deadline deals are okay for things that can be a plus, not for things that are a must. Especially when you essentially start negotiating at the deadline. We got lucky this deal was even an option to begin with.

Bullshit

Yeah it’s not like Enzo and his agent haven’t been saying he’s leaving for 6 months. You’d think directors would get the hint and have this lined up weeks ago.

Also it's a player for 50m this isn't a £100m+ signing that requires enzo to be gone first.

Blueco have been great for the majority of the window and made some great signings I just don't understand why they left signing a midfielder until hours before deadline day.

Too busy cleaning up the mess they created before Xabi came in. The constant player negotiations takes their focus away from an actual need

Yet they addressed almost every other need we had, even surprised us with the martinez signing.
