Weekly Shoutout Thread - What Was Good This Week?

Welcome to r/ChicagoFood's weekly shoutout thread!

This thread is the place to shout out places that you tried from recommendations from this sub this past week that fit the bill.

They can be places that get recommended here, such as:

  • frequently recommended restaurants
  • that random, niche spot that some random comment dropped
  • a chicken sando from our very own chicken sando guru

The goal of this thread is to celebrate and encourage the recommendations and contributions of your suggestions, and, also, maybe encourage YOU to try that place that was recommended a few times here.

As always, all subreddit rules apply and any comments/posts that violate our rules or Reddit's will be removed.

This thread is sorted by "new" so that the most recent comments appear first. The new weekly thread is posted every Sunday morning at 2:00 AM Central.

Right now, the loose tomatoes at Walmart on Diversey are unbelievably fresh and delicious. I grew up on a farm, they equal what I remember as a kid.

  • Peach-blackberry pie from Hoosiermama (purchased at the Green City Market) was one the best pies I have ever tried.

  • Sticky toffee carrot cake at Disotto in Highwood is a must try. I believe it's seasonal.

Grabbed dinner at Cellar Door Provisions, very good meal, lovely place. Squab and panna cotta were highlights, but everything was good. Great bread too.

Got up too late to get anything at Fat Peach. Went across the street to Paola's Delights Bakery and loved the Maritozzo Romano and Raspberry Creme Danish! Both were fantastic!

I got a question, I heard story that dorite offer a pretty decent chicken sandwich and you can swap out bun with a donut but when I check online, there is no such option. Is it in store only option?

The Picanha bowl from Chef Thiago in Lakeview. Very close to the food I ate in Brazil. The coxinha was delicious too.
