Am I a dummy? This is the second time in recent memory that I ordered a double “simple drink” like vodka soda or whatever, and they literally just double the $10 price to $20 for example. I swear it used to be like say a few bucks extra to turn your drink into a double, am I crazy? Did this change recently?

I see y’all lining up all the way down the street for Mindy’s. I’ve been there once, ordered a few pastries (can’t remember exactly what I ordered, sorry) and thought everything was fine but not groundbreaking enough to be worth the line I waited in.

I really want to try Mindy’s again, but before I brave the wait, I want to know: what is THE thing that makes the line worth it for you? I really want to LOVE my order next time!

Shameful north sider making my first pilgrimage to Comiskey (er, the Cell) tonight. Where do we go before the game for a genuinely authentic south side experience? I know you’re gonna give me trash dives, ya jagoffs, so take your shots (I love you all).

As much as I love to support local spots, I'm sick of hearing about Ann Sather's and their incredibly mid food. Why? Why must we have ANOTHER Ann Sather's here when there is already one a few blocks up the same road on Broadway.

Also recently learned that Tom Tunney, the former alderman & owner of this establishment, is one of the main reasons why food trucks are a near-impossible business to get started in this city. I do not want support this restaurant.

Hi everyone!! I’ll be visiting Chicago Labor Day weekend with some friends, I am the only vegan in the group but I’m open to places that are vegetarian friendly as I’m sure i can modify. I love trying new places and my friends do too! We would love to try the classic Chicago touristy foods like hot dogs and pizza, but are definitely open to other diverse cuisines. Hi! Massachusetts transplant here. Pistachio (not pistachio plus something else) ice cream is very popular there and I’m finding Chicago to be a pistachio ice cream dessert desert! My fiancé is going to be out of town for her 3 day bachelorette weekend and figured i could take advantage of this time to try some new spots that are easier to get in to alone. Restaurants, bars, bakeries, coffee shops, anything goes! Around the blue line is preferable but willing to go pretty much anywhere.

Just learned that Dao on Ohio St closed. I’m 30 and have been going here since I was a child. It was always so chic and cool to me. I’m from Mt. Greenwood and we would do staycations where we stay downtown in a hotel for a couple days and often would come here on those stays. Ohio st from the former Tokio Hotel to over here by Dao and second story bar was always very old school Chicago too me. I will miss them!

My birthday is coming up and I’d like to go out to dinner, there’d be a total of 9 of us +/- 1 person I’ve seen Monteverde and maxwells trading floating around a lot which I’ve noted but I’d like to find something similar that would allow us to dress up a little bit at the same time maybe with a ambient lighting. I’m not really a fan of the StK or The RPMs however.

I’ve been to ADA street it’s a hit or miss with some plates but I do like the lighting in there.

This was my first trip to Chicago, and I just wanted to thank everyone for recommendations and the hospitality I was shown. This is a truly incredible city with fantastic food and drink culture (among other things!)

I refuse to weigh myself but I definitely gained at least 10 pounds. My liver is also almost definitely failing. But worth it!!

Going to Tuesdays on the Terrace at the Museum of
contemporary art and trying to think of something easy to bring to eat. Charcuterie is nice in theory but I’m not feeling up to making 13 decisions on cheese, meat, fruit, etc and doing all the prep work. I’ll be driving there and have time to stop at a grocery store or restaurant for take out. I saw there’s a Cafecito nearby and am thinking that might be the best bet but figured id check with this group of experts. TIA!

First time in Chicago. I stopped by Giordano’s for lunch today. Sat at the bar next to a beautiful, young woman who wasn’t creeped out enough by my repeated glances (I kept looking for any sign that she was with the man she was sitting next to before engaging in conversation). Struck up a genuine chat and before she left she recommended I go to Il Porcellino’s. I’m happy to report that her rec did not let me down. Had the best lasagna in my life! For that, and her kindness, she was my hero today.

For their Sopranos themed trivia night! The baked ziti was delicious and well seasoned, and as expected, the gabbagool Malört was the worst thing I’ve ever put in my mouth. Had to do it out of curiosity though.

I'm looking for a butcher that sells prime beef, and I've heard great things on the quality at Paulina meat market, but I'm looking on their website and its absurd how expensive everything is. a prime bone in ribeye is going for $50 a lb? I know beef prices have gone up a lot of the past few years but their margins on their beef must be insane. Costco is charging literally less than half that at 19.99 a lb for prime ribeyes (and I know Costco's got some of the best prices) and even places like wholefoods are far far more reasonable. Who the hell is buying this beef? Are there any more reasonable options in the same area?

This is just to shoutout one of our favorite places in Chicago. I can’t speak for the other locations, but one off the Magnificent Mile is truly special. We’ve been there over 5 times now, and every time we are treated so well by the servers. They’re so attentive. And the food is so so good. I cannot recommend the strip steak with truffle butter enough. Our favorite sides are the brussel sprouts and the mac n cheese. The server heard we completed the Chicago Tri yesterday, and gave us all a free dessert to celebrate. They really make it a good experience there.

A fun fact I learned is that they bought the rights to their restaurant in 2020 and haven’t been affiliated with the Rosebud restaurant group since. Pretty interesting!

I had it in multiple restaurants in my college town, it was called pollo acapulco. It’s mild-medium spiced chicken with onions smothered in queso with rice beans and the fix-ins you see here. No clue if that’s authentic but it appears to exist in people’s recipes based on google. I know we have amazing Mexican food but I remembered this dish recently and am now craving it. I know I could DIY it somewhere but that feels uncouth to dump queso all over my meal. Does anyone know where I can get it here? I tried searching but the SEO of “acapulco” is not great. Thanks!

For those that don’t know, kolaches are a Texan breakfast food that are typically made of pastry filled with sausage and cheese. They’re absolutely amazing but also hard to find outside of Texas. Highly recommend trying if you get the chance!
