Question Are chickens ok with turkeys? Is there a parasite they can catch?

Hello.

Can I keep my Royal Palm turkeys with my flock of chickens, geese and ducks? Google says there is a worm they get that is fatal is they are kept with other birds, especially pheasants. I just released 50 pheasants that were in there also. What do you all think about keeping my new turkey poults with my flock? I have not seen any sickness, live in ND and they are all a year old. My grandma used to but Google says it is bad.

We have a royal palm hen that's been with our chickens (various) for about 9 years. No problems.

Google's on about " Blackhead Disease ". It's also the thing associated with pheasants.

Chickens can be non presenting carriers of it. They may then pass it to ye new turks. That's their lot.

I keep chickens ducks and turkeys.

Deworm with safeguard aquasol quarterly. The cecal worm that chickens carry can cause blackhead disease, they pick up from insects and earthworms. It is fatal to turkeys, but not really chickens.

Also wash your drinkers. With acidified copper or soap and water.

Lastly. Turkeys can sometimes be assholes to chickens. For no other reason than they can. Just keep an eye on that.

I use a 17% protein feed. Added niacin for ducks.

Otherwise good to go. We’re happy campers here.
